when I was like 14 I used to reblog these posts on here that were like "YOUR 20S ARE NOT AN IMAGINARY RACE YOURE DOING JUST FINE!!" just to be positive towards my older mutuals even though i didn't really get what they were about and I'd be in the tags like "#so true!! #everyone does things at their own pace!!" and now im 24 I'm thinking back to it and it's like Oh of course the imaginary race. Which im losing

#going to be 28 this year and honestly fuck this imaginary race #if there’s something I learned throughout my time on this planet #the only reason there’s a race is because of the media we’ve consumed from a young age #everyone thinks you have to buy a house start a family and go to college to get a good job and be successful #but honestly?#the imaginary race is just growing older and finding out how to take care of your inner child to find inner peace about what you actually #want in life — not something that’s been predisposed for you #sure some people will want to go to college and start families #but that’s not a life for everyone #it’s okay to take a different route on that race #it’s taken me 27 years to figure that out #the question everyone should ask themselves as soon as they’re like — idk — 22?#is: what do I want to do? what makes me happy? am I making my own choices or following what others expect of me?#that thing people say about how when you turn 25 you realize that 14 year old you was actually pretty cool is true #you’ll start delving into your interests more because you’ve built more than a basic foundation to tend to them #and you start not caring what others think #at least that’s been my experience #anyways #live your life the way YOU want to live it
