omg bless you anon for still wanting to hear my opinion even though i've not been as present lately (had a bunch of apocalyptic stuff happen in my life and also seasonal depression in general kicking my ass) but no yeah, i loved this page so much. i think maybe this is the first time we've seen nale and sabine in the new art style? sabine looks so good omg. i've always loved their relationship, how despite the cartoonish evil of their roles, they truly love and support each other in a way that's completely sincere
but yeah, nale, i'm so glad to see him back, the way he left the story was just. so sad. everything he struggled for, unceremoniously crushed by his father. nothing sadder than seeing a character try so hard, banging their head against the same wall and being stymied by why they aren't making progress, and dying in that unfulfilled state (miko... 😢). and i think nale expresses that well himself in the strip, like, the futility of his actions in life, how he got in his own way, and ended up with the short end of the stick (pun intended). he, like every character in this comic, started off a shallow caricature that became so much more complex with time, and this page was the perfect way to zoom out, take a look at his whole situation, and really sum that up for him
i'm terribly excited to see where this is going to lead, now that we're caught up with how he's been doing since the last time we saw him, we can go forward and see what his role in the story from now is going to be--this new nale who is no longer controlled by the desire to one-up his father, here where we are approaching the climax of this 20+ year comic. i could not be more hyped to see how nale and sabine are going to play into it!!
