oh i just realized they didn’t do any special music performance for season 4 of moominvalley i guess unless u count singing a cover of wonderwall but damn … going from getting a song by dodie alma girl in red etc we got nothing 😔

i think obviously we all [ or at least majority ] knew snufmin wasn’t going to be canon, i don’t think the creators would create such a drastic change to tove’s work and truthfully we’ll never know how canon snufmin would act regardless . the main issue i find with season 4 is that by them avoiding any queer coding that was established they just low key character assassinated their two most popular characters

again, the writers just avoided any queer coding that could have been picked up besides a few scenes, but usually the queer readings are done in the pov of moomin. scenes of moomin fawning over snufkin , waiting for him, the way his family and friends react to him over his ‘friendship’ with snufkin. while there are scenes of snufkins own queer readings, the first episode shows the feelings the pair have for example, season 4 has so much yearning on mostly snufkin part and then moomin has some. yet in the end those feelings are put aside and he goes back to snorkmaiden, and even their relationship feels kinda placed there because the vast development they had in past seasons. I feel like the trios development kept fluctuating, and I wish we got an episode similar to lonely mountains where we get to see them communicate about their feelings, maybe even a bit during the comet. but any communication or feelings was just placed to the side and it’s just unanswered now

moomin Coming Out the hat transformed and not being accepted as who he is after he came out [ of the hat ] . hes begging for ppl to see who he is , who hes always been before and only moominmamma accepting him as is . it’s the unconditional love that turns him back to who he is deep down , just a moomin .

moomin yearning for snufkin . That’s it . Literally that yearning turning to expectancy and knowing ur ‘ friend ‘ will come back , the trust they share in eachother is not Best friends behavior .

its been very well known that thingumy and bob are meant to be a representation of tove jansson and vivica bandler relationship , and how their red ruby are meant to be a metaphor for them hiding their love and only opening the case to those they trust . even the hobgoblin searching for it could be a metaphor for him wanting / searching for something to make him feel accepted or happy , but coming to the realization that it’s the people he meet that fills those wants he’s had for centuries .

if i dare even say , and this is a reach , the hat could be about how once you come out things can change severely , scary and good things can happen , it’s all just how people and urself continue on .

2019 moominvalley does a Really great job at showing how much snufkin does care for moomin even if he doesn’t say it , however i do think the 90’s anime was better at doing this especially with comparing the dragon episode . im still never going to emotionally recover from snufkin , a believer in some kind of fate / spiritually , telling moomin he’ll leave moominvalley if he catches five minnows , doing so , and then lying saying he never caught any minnows because of how upset moomin was that day . he rlly said ‘ it wouldn’t do well to do against the cards ‘ AND THEN HE DOES . CUZ HE CARES ABT MOOMIN AND WANTS TO BE THERE FOR HIM WHEN HE CANNNN
