Y’all think Dimitri is the overprotective sibling? You haven’t met Karolina Belikova. As the oldest sibling, she witnessed firsthand the abuse and mistreatment of Olena by their father. She was the one protecting her younger siblings, hiding them away when Randall was drunk and on a rampage. She would whisper soothingly to them all, embracing her siblings tightly as they hid in a cupboard upstairs. When Dimitri was was 13 and ready to protect his Mama, Karolina tried to physically get in his way to stop him from getting involved, fearing that he would get hurt also. When Sonya got pregnant, it was Karolina she turned to for comfort and advice. When Viktoria broke down and refused to speak with anyone after learning Rose had left, it was Karolina who was able to get her to open up. After Dimitri’s had informed Olena of his restoration, it was Karolina who he called next. She comforted him gently as he sobbed for hours over the phone. Karolina’s overprotective nature comes from the childhood moments of feeling hopeless against their father. She knows that if she can at least protect her siblings, she has some control over the situation.
