Qifrey's Eyes Theory

Huge manga spoilers

I can't stop thinking about Qifrey's eyes. How TF did the tree make a perfect eye? It doesn't do that.

It looks like roots on everyone else

So here's a(nother) theory. The roots are on the inside they're his optic nerve or something. He was born with silverwash (or maybe fully blind, I just think silverwash would be more fun) and the tree was given to him as a cure. It worked!

But they didn't know the cost is none other than despair. This works on 2 levels. 1) the price Qifrey personally still has to pay because he can never have comfort but also 2) this cool new healing magic was seen by the brimcaps and gave them evil ideas

They stole his right eye as part of a scheme that Qifrey says "must be stopped". They want to use his right eye in a way that will change everything.

It threatens his future. He's so close to happiness. Unless he fails to stop them.

Because here's the bright side. The Silverwood in Qifrey is dying. The seed evolved for an injured animal. It was not intended to be used this way indefinitely. Qifrey's had it for at least 2 decades.

Soon he'll be blind. But safe.

Another really intelligent Qifrey observation in ch 43:

He likes Olruggio

He thinks Olruggio is cool

He appreciates what Olruggio does

He likes Olruggio's spells

He wants to touch Olruggio's hand

He yearns for Olruggio

In a gay way

He's gay

Qifrey and Brimhat Theory

Qifrey was buried in the forest of death, experimented on

But he was someone's loved one

The brimcaps were trying to save him.

Qifrey was the first, the test

And they've since learned how to make the roots/branches something you can consciously control

They don't know about the "finding comfort" downside, or they thought they'd gotten rid of it.

They don't think body modifications/healing magic should be forbidden because it can do so much good.

But pointed caps have the pact because that's a slippery slope

Between what is wrong

Somebody organize this into a proper theory I'm begging you there must be something here.

I believe thristas' picture depicts them holding a Qifrey sized child

Qifrey could be much older than anyone knows. He could have been in tree stasis. He says they took away his memories over and over but maybe it was more dagda style and they were rewinding his body over and over too?

Throughout the story, there is a theme of people turning to forbidden magic, or at least being tempted, in an effort to save a loved one.
