At the end of the day, everyone in the family knew that Mary Lou was having the hardest time adjusting. She lived vicariously through Nora who she sucked the life out of like the leech she was. It exhausted her and the both of them so they needed time away. The least she could do was make an attempt at this new world nonsense. “And let me guess, the straight people rally the streets because of it? Or do they demand their own festival?” She wasn’t one to make a spectacle of herself, she’d grown comfortable being in hiding, in secret with Nora all the while. But an excuse to show her off? That she could definitely get behind.
“The fun ones come join us, and the tiresome ones demand their own.” Nora answers with a disdainful chuckle. She didn’t care what other people were doing, so long as she got to be front and center of it all. “But that’s not what I have planned for us today.” Nora reaches out and takes Mary Louise’s hands, dragging her gently towards the front door. “I know you still haven’t taken a complete liking to the twenty-first century, so I thought we could try some of the new things together. They’ve come up with so much, there must be something new out there that we both like.”
