Soft launching a Lesbyler fic I'm working on that may or may not be finished
Harsh footsteps sounded in the usually quiet forest, making it stir with excitement. The trees had never seen a girl like this before, bleeding but still carrying herself. Brave. The way their leaves rustled, even during the still air of the night, It was like they knew a story was starting as her bloodied feet soaked into the grassy earth and stained it a deep, almost black, red.Ā
Castle Byers, on the other hand, was completely silent, not sharing the same restless energy as the forest. Instead it seemed to be prepping itself for the chaos this girl was going to bring to its door, its walls creaking with an exhausted sigh at the thought.Ā
Black, shaggy, hair hung over the girl's eyes, veiling her view of the castle. It stood tall, white base wrapped in an angelic gold. Most castles in the kingdom of Hawkins were menacing, meant to make peasants fear the royal inside. Either that or crumbling, the sky pressing too much weight on their roofs till they caved in and became places for rats and the poorest of the kingdom to rest.Ā
This one, instead, glowed like it would bewitch anyone who passed by to stop and stare in awe. As if, maybe, if you were to curl against the marble walls like a cat seeking warmth, you could absorb the way its pillars swirled with magic and take some of that magic for your own.Ā
The royal family turned in their sleep as the castle tried its best to warn them of what's to come. The softest, sweetest, princess in the kingdom was the only one who heard the whispered warnings of the creaking stairs outside her door and the scrape of an excited tree pressing to her window. She was always one to notice the change in the air, the first to point it out as her lithe fingers tugged at the back of her hair.Ā
Her snow soft eyelashes fluttered open just as the brave girl dropped down in front of the castle, like instinct told her something had changed. The princess, though slowed by her covers trying to pull her back to them and keep her safe in their warmth, slipped from her bed.Ā
Her feet padded to the door, hands coming to turn the cold, golden, knob. The door screamed in foreboding, telling her to turn back, but the girl, still dazed with sleep, could only understand so much the house told her. She, instead, took its loud squeal as encouragement, moving quicker down the long halls of her palace.
When she reached the dazzlingly big and disappointingly empty main hall of her home, the door, in a final attempt at keeping her away, got stuck when she tried to pull it open. Irritation filled her, she knew something was outside, waiting for her in the misty, moonlight soaked night. She felt it nagging at her, and now she had to know what woke her up. Grabbing the handle with both of her hands she pulled until there was a loud groan and the door flung open, making her fall back a bit.
āOof!ā a cloud of dirt puffed up in front of the princess as a tangled haired girl fell at her feet. She was just trying to rest, leaned against the dreamy looking door, having no idea someone would come down and find her this late at night. The royals, so prim and proper, were not ones to be awake longer than they needed to be. No work to slave over or babes to keep them awake. All of that was dealt with for them.Ā
Well, that was true for most of the nobles in this kingdomāespecially the ones who preached about needing a sort of Beauty Sleepābut Castle Byers was always humming with energy. Someone was always pacing the halls in the night and wearing down their woven carpets. Or awake in their room coming up with some new idea that ought to have them kicked from the kingdom completely.Ā
The princess stared down at the scrambling girl, who, like a scared animal shoved up to her feet and stepped back. Unthinking, she reached forward and grabbed her before she could walk herself off the stairs and crack her skull open.Ā
