And that is a trait that carried over from Eden. Since it was Paradise, there was no hunger, so the animals did not fight between each other and were all friends in a really utopic way. I think Lilith deeply inside sees all animals like they are still this way (in a subconscious way, I mean).

So, every time she sees a new animal she has the real urge to pet it and give it cuddles. And, at least until now, the animal trusts her in return :]

As he left Zestial's mansion, Alastor decided to take a stroll around to admire the damage his fight with Valentino had caused to that territory.

He had not interest in the moth demon. To him, that insect held no value, even though his recent rise to power was quite entertaining to witness.

He believed Valentino lacked class, preferring lewd activities and gross mingling to an actual, worthy performance.

Alastor took his time, trying to picture the fight from remaining debris and how skittish Sinners acted. Impressive!

Still, it was hard to respect a man who had picked on a retired Overlord.

“You know, this area is under new management.” Came Valentino’s seductive voice. He pushed off the wall he was leaning on, Cupid standing behind him, hidden in an alleyway. “I was just taking a stroll, thinking of when we would cross paths next.“

Valentino lit a cigarette, beginning to walk around the radio demon, but giving him a wide berth. “One of my souls says you’re still hanging around Vox.” He rolled his eyes. “I thought you found him pathetic, especially after the whole taking over heaven incident. And now, you take interest. Why?” He blew smoke in his general direction.

“This is what you like, I take it. The game, the chase, the control. I’m not wrong, am I?”

"Actually, that is what Vox likes," Alastor smirked as he stopped nonchalantly for a chat.

Pointing at a derelict building with his cane, he added: "As for you, I see you enjoy taking down elder monuments for glory! What a distasteful way to grow power. But then again, you are a man of distinctly tacky preferences."

He considered the large, pink tiger guarding the moth demon. Would Vox mind this beast getting hurt? Probably, since he did not want Valentino harmed, and masters were instrinsinctly bonded to their pets.

"I see you came with a guard dog! Did my strolling through worry you that much? I would be flattered, coming from a stronger Overlord!"

He smirked amicably. "Or have you reflected on my offer? You could still have Vox when I don't, as I told you then! He will always favor me, after all. I figured making it official would spare you the humiliation of experiencing that truth over and over again. But if you'd rather be as greedy as he was, aiming for it all... then you are welcome to fly as close to the sun as dear Icarus did, aha ah!"

Valentino let out a snort, crossing his arms as he considered his words. “Your offer is bullshit. I don’t know your game, radio demon, but I know you don’t care about Vox. Not the way I know he wants you to. You’re using his obsession and love against him. I left, willingly! You can have him whenever you want.”

Of course he didn’t want to give Vox up. He was doing this for him, but also for himself. He needed to prove he wasn’t a pushover, that he could be better than Alastor. Than the fucking monster he was.

Cupid growled, but Valentino reached down to pet her before she could move. “Honestly I didn’t know you were around, I couldn’t give less of a fuck about you anymore. I’ve got the power equal to five overlords now, and then some even! You don’t scare me anymore, Al. Not even a little bit.”

He moved away from the edge, now getting closer to Alastor but still circling him. “What exactly do you want? I know you didn’t come for a stroll. You here to gloat? To brag? To, what, humiliate me?”

"My, my, what a paranoid little bug! What I do and why is my own business, dear."

He stood straight, both hands in his back with his cane, letting Valentino appraise him without batting an eyelid.

"You did do quite a number on Zestial, ah! That poor spider needs a good shed... and his territory, too! Although, I am pleased to see you have not turned it into a lewd red district yet."

He eyed the tiger. What a majestic creature...

"Are you done 'not giving less of a fuck about me anymore', dear little insect? I would rather not be late to my next rendez-vous. I think we will be watching, what was it... Stormy Weather? Testing out some cocktails and, of course, dancing!"

Even though he doesn't move, his voice can't help but betray excitement in the last sentence.

"Since you are done with the Vees altogether, you won't mind that Vox burnt and replaced all furniture in your former bedroom, mmm? The new decor is far more dandy, obviously! Very nineteen-thirty!"

Valentino stopped dead in his tracks, almost as if he were offended. He put his hand to his chest and gasped dramatically. “Me? Turn this into another one of my little lewd corners? Oh you vastly misunderstand what I am and what I am doing, radio demon.”

He flicked away the cigarette that had burned down to ashes, watching it hit the cobblestone street and flicker out. “I’m not making you late, you’re choosing to stay and talk to me.” He shrugged. “That’s not my choice. Then again, it’s not like you to give me one.”

He looked over at Cupid, seeing her circle Alastor to get behind him. He shook his head. Not yet. She grunted but backed down, moving to stand beside Val again.

At alastor’s next words, Valentino snapped his attention to him. “You’re staying at Vee Tower? With Vox?” He couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him. “How can he not see that you’re using him? You would never in a million years agree to anything like that if you gained nothing in return.”

Alastor smircked, eyes glinting in mischief. "I am getting a fully furnished radio studio, a free luxury flat, unlimited access to his belongings and credit card... is that what you want to hear me say?"

He sharply turned on his heels to advance on Valentino, tapping his chest lightly with the foot of his cane.

"I rose myself from nothing, all by myself, with my own two black hands. I have my own studio, my own places and items, my own money!"

He stabbed his cane down into the ground. "Vox was the one lacking, and now he stands at my level. He was the one who needed to gather power and materialistic goods, enough for us both to never depend on the other."

His grin turned cruel. "However you... are projecting. All those things you used him for, suddenly out of reach... so you steal them from others instead, aha ah!"

His red eyes glowed with malice. "He indulged you with the wealth and power he had, and you didn't, while I rejected him over his lack of means. You bent over to soothe his annoyance, while I kicked him in the lower regions for grazing my shoulder. Stop - comparing - me - to - yourself, you revolting insect!"

He tapped the ground with his cane to emphasize each words.

"I would slit my stomach open and hang myself with my own entrails rather than act like a common whore for a white man, Valentino. I would pull my beating heart out through my vocal chords before I become his lackey."

He puts a hand on his cocked hip, the other resting on his cane on the side.

"I built an empire before either of you landed in Hell. I collected power and secured wealth while you frollicked in other's beds. I worked harder than he ever did to rise higher than any Sinner here. So again, you insignificant moth! And for the last time: do - not - compare - your pathetic leecherous greed to my hard work and success. You are a flea sucking on others' blood for sustenance, while I pull on veins like puppet strings."

Valentino's wings flared out as smoke curled from his lips, his eyes narrowing behind his heart-shaped glasses. "Oh, perdóname, Mr. Self-Made Success," he sneered, voice dripping with venom as he leaned forward into Alastor's space. "You want a fucking medal for clawing your way up from the gutter? How inspiring. The little radio demon who worked so hard—" He made exaggerated air quotes. "Tell me, did all that hard work wash the dirt off, or can everyone still smell where you came from? Because no matter how many fancy words you use, how many souls you collect, you're still just some colored boy playing dress-up in a white man's world, aren't you?"

He circled Alastor slowly, predatory and deliberate, his grin widening as he prepared to sink his fangs in deeper. "And speaking of whores, since you're so offended by the comparison, let's talk about tu mamá, hmm? Because from where I'm standing, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. She must have been real good on her back to pop out something as uppity as you. Did she teach you all those big words while she was spreading her legs for pennies? Or did you learn to talk fancy after you realized you couldn't sell what she did? At least I'm honest about what I am, querido. You? You're just a whore in denial, dressed up in a red suit, pretending your pride makes you different."

"Go ahead," Valentino purred, spreading his arms wide in mock invitation, his smile sharp and cruel. "Show me all that hard work and success. Prove you're not just another angry little negrito who can't control his temper when someone reminds him what he really is. Hit me, Radio Demon. Give me exactly what I want."

Alastor's smile widened.

"Can you ever stop mistaking your story for mine, mariposita? It does rather seem like I learned from my darling mother how to rise, the way you learned from yours how to lay on your back, ah!"

He twirled his cane pedantically, wondering why the moth was not attacking. Only threats and insults, how odd... Was Valentino minding Vox's feelings, too? Or was Alastor actually the one projecting now?

He scrutinized the other's attitude, tense and eager for a fight. No, the man wanted to pounce... but wasn't. Why?

Did he have a deal with Vox not to attack Alastor? The TV head was very capable of making this kind of silly demands. In which case, Alastor was not going to attack first.

Smirking, he magicked his staff away and stuck both hands behind his back, starting his own lazy stride in counterpart to Valentino's circling. His expression had smoothened into pleasant neutrality.

"I do not particularly wish to harm you," he pointed out casually, observing how Valentino and his tigers moved around him, and together. "You will not be Vox's first nor last lover, neither his worst choice, given his taste in men, ah aha aha ha ah! Insects are short-lived in my experience; mostly annoying little pests!"

Actually, he could simply ask Niffty to get rid of Valentino —ah, but Vox would act stupidly, annoyingly sad, then. Why couldn't Valentino just... die?

"Besides, punching someone is hardly a way to prove control over one's temper. Proper wording, dear! Learn it!"

In one swift motion he pounces, claws at the ready, aiming for Valentino's face.

If he is right and the man cannot or won't attack him, Alastor will stop shy of actually touching him, and try the same kind of bluff on the tiger instead. If neither can actually harm him... Alastor will have some fun!

Valentino saw the pounce coming, the shift in Alastor's stance, the predatory gleam, and for a split second, something flickered across his face. Not quite fear, but close enough. His wings drew in tight against his body as those claws came for his face. He flinched back, eyes widening behind his glasses, and then—

He laughed.

A breathless, almost hysterical sound that cut through the tension like broken glass. "There it is," Valentino gasped out, his grin returning but shakier now, more manic. "There's the real you, mi amor. Not the sophisticated gentleman with his fancy clothing and his—" He gestured wildly at where Alastor's claws hovered, so close Valentino could feel the displaced air against his skin. "-his proper wording. Just another animal who stops short when it matters."

He tilted his head back, exposing the vulnerable line of his throat, his expression twisting into something cruel and pitying. "You can't do it, can you? All that talk about pulling hearts through vocal cords, about hanging yourself with your own entrails before you'd be like me—" Valentino's voice dropped to a venomous whisper, his eyes locked on Alastor's. "But when it comes down to it, you're just another coward playing pretend. Vox was right about you. All bark, no bite. Just a scared little boy who learned to smile so nobody would see him shaking."

He leaned forward into those hovering claws, close enough that the tips nearly grazed his cheek, his breath coming faster. "So what's it going to be, Radio Demon? You going to prove me wrong, or are you going to pull back like the good little pet Vox always wanted you to be? Show me that control you're so proud of. Show me how you're nothing like me." His smile turned razor-sharp, taunting. "Or admit you don't have the cojones to follow through."

Just as I thought.

Alastor's smirk turned feral, and he jumped back with grace.

"You can't hurt me, can you, bug?"

Beautiful. This would be so much more interesting than a mere fight. He straightened up, invocking his staff again, to press both palms onto its top.

"I do find quite telling that every assumption you make about me tells so much about yourself, rather! Did you truly feel like Vox's pet? I feel like his God. He worships even the air I breathe!"

His smirked as his shadows swirled around the three of them.

Then, he stroke, grabbing Cupid easily in the snare of his shadow tendrils and pulling her high up in the air. Sinners had powers. This was just a tiger, quite a simple catch.

As he fully restricted the animal's movements, aside from its snout, his smile turned cruel.

"Vox said nothing about collateral damage..."

Valentino tensed as the shadows rose around them. He couldn’t do anything like this. He was powerless. “Of course I can hurt you, cariño, but I’d hate to break a nail.” He narrowed his eyes at him. “Ooooh I see now. Vox told you not to, didn’t he? Oh that sympathetic white man.“ he shook his head.

“I was never his pet and I never felt that way. I was his partner. I got tired of trying to compete with you.” His wings flexed as he saw the shadows move.

Saw them wrap around Cupid.

“Cupid!” He watched her get lifted up, high into the air with no way to defend herself, to get away.

She’ll die. She’ll die and she won’t come back.

“Really, Al? Going after someone’s pet? Low blow, even for you.” He clearly wanted to jump up and save her, but what could he do? Alastor could be testing him again, could throw her across all of hell if he wanted. He needed to be careful. “Put her down.”

Cupid, meanwhile, was crying out in distress. She could hardly move, trying desperately to bite the tendrils wrapped around her.

"Put her down? What a callous thing to say! As you wish, then!"

Alastor's shadows engulfed the tiger as he snapped his fingers. When the tendrils receeded, Cupid had completely disappeared.

"My, Valentino, I did not peg you as so heartless as to sacrifice your pet!" he mocked cruelly. "Will you replace it as easily as you do your many, many, many many many many lovers?"

For a moment, Valentino’s entire world was gone. Cupid was his everything. The only thing in existance that had nothing but complete love and trust in him. That never cared for his flaws, never needed anything from him but love. Never exploited him.

No, Alastor wouldn’t have killed her. There was no blood, no body. She had to be stored somewhere. She was scared, but not dead. He couldn’t believe she was gone.

He clenched his fists, snarling. Rosie said he couldn’t strike first. She said nothing about grabbing him, touching him even. As long as if didn’t cause pain…

He lunged at him fast, all four hands reaching out to grab Alastor by his suit, yanking him close as aggressively as he could, his face inches from the radio demon’s.

“You have about three seconds to bring her back before I show you what replaceable really means! When I’m done with you, you’ll need cosmetic surgery to look half as good as normal!” He shook him hard, snarling at him like a savage thing.

Alastor laughed, loudly at first, which turned into an obnoxious cackle. "Empty threats! Ah, moth-man, you can barely grab my coat, what a blast!"

He lightly bumped the bug on the top of the head with his staff.

"I cannot bring her back, baldy! Not when I sent her straight into a swamp to feed an alligator twice her size. Fresh meet and a hunt! Louise will be delighted!"

Valentino flinched as Alastor’s staff bapped him on the head. He reached up and rubbed the spot. It didn’t hurt like, a lot, but it definitely was an unpleasant feeling.

His eyes widened.

Technically speaking, it hurt just a smidge, and technically speaking that was a strike. Just enough to matter.

“You fed my pet to a fucking gator?!” He yelled. He was only slightly positive Cupid was alive, but he really didn’t know with Alastor. He wanted to hope she was okay. “You’ll regret that, Venison.”

He delivered a swift punch to the radio demon’s chest, right where he knew that old wound from Adam would be. He followed up with another blow to the same spot. “And to think I was trying to play nice.”

At alastor’s next words, Valentino snapped his attention to him. “You’re staying at Vee Tower? With Vox?” He couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him. “How can he not see that you’re using him? You would never in a million years agree to anything like that if you gained nothing in return.”

Alastor smircked, eyes glinting in mischief. "I am getting a fully furnished radio studio, a free luxury flat, unlimited access to his belongings and credit card... is that what you want to hear me say?"

He sharply turned on his heels to advance on Valentino, tapping his chest lightly with the foot of his cane.

"I rose myself from nothing, all by myself, with my own two black hands. I have my own studio, my own places and items, my own money!"

He stabbed his cane down into the ground. "Vox was the one lacking, and now he stands at my level. He was the one who needed to gather power and materialistic goods, enough for us both to never depend on the other."

His grin turned cruel. "However you... are projecting. All those things you used him for, suddenly out of reach... so you steal them from others instead, aha ah!"

His red eyes glowed with malice. "He indulged you with the wealth and power he had, and you didn't, while I rejected him over his lack of means. You bent over to soothe his annoyance, while I kicked him in the lower regions for grazing my shoulder. Stop - comparing - me - to - yourself, you revolting insect!"

He tapped the ground with his cane to emphasize each words.

"I would slit my stomach open and hang myself with my own entrails rather than act like a common whore for a white man, Valentino. I would pull my beating heart out through my vocal chords before I become his lackey."

He puts a hand on his cocked hip, the other resting on his cane on the side.

"I built an empire before either of you landed in Hell. I collected power and secured wealth while you frollicked in other's beds. I worked harder than he ever did to rise higher than any Sinner here. So again, you insignificant moth! And for the last time: do - not - compare - your pathetic leecherous greed to my hard work and success. You are a flea sucking on others' blood for sustenance, while I pull on veins like puppet strings."

Valentino's wings flared out as smoke curled from his lips, his eyes narrowing behind his heart-shaped glasses. "Oh, perdóname, Mr. Self-Made Success," he sneered, voice dripping with venom as he leaned forward into Alastor's space. "You want a fucking medal for clawing your way up from the gutter? How inspiring. The little radio demon who worked so hard—" He made exaggerated air quotes. "Tell me, did all that hard work wash the dirt off, or can everyone still smell where you came from? Because no matter how many fancy words you use, how many souls you collect, you're still just some colored boy playing dress-up in a white man's world, aren't you?"

He circled Alastor slowly, predatory and deliberate, his grin widening as he prepared to sink his fangs in deeper. "And speaking of whores, since you're so offended by the comparison, let's talk about tu mamá, hmm? Because from where I'm standing, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. She must have been real good on her back to pop out something as uppity as you. Did she teach you all those big words while she was spreading her legs for pennies? Or did you learn to talk fancy after you realized you couldn't sell what she did? At least I'm honest about what I am, querido. You? You're just a whore in denial, dressed up in a red suit, pretending your pride makes you different."

"Go ahead," Valentino purred, spreading his arms wide in mock invitation, his smile sharp and cruel. "Show me all that hard work and success. Prove you're not just another angry little negrito who can't control his temper when someone reminds him what he really is. Hit me, Radio Demon. Give me exactly what I want."

Alastor's smile widened.

"Can you ever stop mistaking your story for mine, mariposita? It does rather seem like I learned from my darling mother how to rise, the way you learned from yours how to lay on your back, ah!"

He twirled his cane pedantically, wondering why the moth was not attacking. Only threats and insults, how odd... Was Valentino minding Vox's feelings, too? Or was Alastor actually the one projecting now?

He scrutinized the other's attitude, tense and eager for a fight. No, the man wanted to pounce... but wasn't. Why?

Did he have a deal with Vox not to attack Alastor? The TV head was very capable of making this kind of silly demands. In which case, Alastor was not going to attack first.

Smirking, he magicked his staff away and stuck both hands behind his back, starting his own lazy stride in counterpart to Valentino's circling. His expression had smoothened into pleasant neutrality.

"I do not particularly wish to harm you," he pointed out casually, observing how Valentino and his tigers moved around him, and together. "You will not be Vox's first nor last lover, neither his worst choice, given his taste in men, ah aha aha ha ah! Insects are short-lived in my experience; mostly annoying little pests!"

Actually, he could simply ask Niffty to get rid of Valentino —ah, but Vox would act stupidly, annoyingly sad, then. Why couldn't Valentino just... die?

"Besides, punching someone is hardly a way to prove control over one's temper. Proper wording, dear! Learn it!"

In one swift motion he pounces, claws at the ready, aiming for Valentino's face.

If he is right and the man cannot or won't attack him, Alastor will stop shy of actually touching him, and try the same kind of bluff on the tiger instead. If neither can actually harm him... Alastor will have some fun!

Valentino saw the pounce coming, the shift in Alastor's stance, the predatory gleam, and for a split second, something flickered across his face. Not quite fear, but close enough. His wings drew in tight against his body as those claws came for his face. He flinched back, eyes widening behind his glasses, and then—

He laughed.

A breathless, almost hysterical sound that cut through the tension like broken glass. "There it is," Valentino gasped out, his grin returning but shakier now, more manic. "There's the real you, mi amor. Not the sophisticated gentleman with his fancy clothing and his—" He gestured wildly at where Alastor's claws hovered, so close Valentino could feel the displaced air against his skin. "-his proper wording. Just another animal who stops short when it matters."

He tilted his head back, exposing the vulnerable line of his throat, his expression twisting into something cruel and pitying. "You can't do it, can you? All that talk about pulling hearts through vocal cords, about hanging yourself with your own entrails before you'd be like me—" Valentino's voice dropped to a venomous whisper, his eyes locked on Alastor's. "But when it comes down to it, you're just another coward playing pretend. Vox was right about you. All bark, no bite. Just a scared little boy who learned to smile so nobody would see him shaking."

He leaned forward into those hovering claws, close enough that the tips nearly grazed his cheek, his breath coming faster. "So what's it going to be, Radio Demon? You going to prove me wrong, or are you going to pull back like the good little pet Vox always wanted you to be? Show me that control you're so proud of. Show me how you're nothing like me." His smile turned razor-sharp, taunting. "Or admit you don't have the cojones to follow through."
