Val's mother was an immigrant to the U.S, specifically Florida, and so it always put a lot of pressure on Val and his younger sister. Especially in school as a late teen. He was never good in school. He was pretty used to hearing the usual words shouted at him. "I didn't come all the way here, give up EVERYTHING, for you and your sister to have a better life, full of opportunities, for YOU to bring back grades like THIS!" Despite being used to it, he still felt guilty every time he heard the fact brought up in conversation. His mother worked constant hours, barely seeing them, to pay for American schools, just for Val to fail her over and over. Well.. for Valeria to fail over and over. Val was born a girl, yes, February 14, 1970. His sister was 4 years younger than him, in 8th grade, when he was in his senior year. He remembered trying to come out to his mother once.. it ended in screaming and tears, like most arguments between them. She guilt tripped him once again as well, "I shouldn't have come to America, should I have stayed with your father in Mexico, then you wouldn't be corrupted by all the rainbow JODERES in this country!" He never brought it up in front of his mother again. His sister however, María, was a different story. She supported him, sent him videos of American women who had gender affirming surgery and looked exactly like men. She sent him videos of supportive marches, pride parades, and also mixed in a bunch of videos of girls she thought was cute. (She was lesbian, hiding it from their mother of course to avoid the same reaction that Val got) She's the one that gave him the alternative name. "Valentino." She helped him cut his hair for the first time while their mother worked a late night. She wanted to become a doctor, so she could perform the surgery for Valentino. They were extremely close. Val promised his mother that he would protect her. And Val promised María that he would love and protect her forever. Val began searching for acceptance and connection outside his home, like most teens his age. Eventually he met a man just a year or two older than him named Michael. The man's family blood was pure american, with blonde hair, blue eyes that made him weak in the knees, and he even 'claimed' to also have a sister that was lesbian. He started dating the guy in secret. The guy would pick him up from school, drive him to all kinds of places, they'd stay up late laying in grass fields together, kissing and looking up at the stars, talking, he would comfort Val when he cried and take his side on everything, even if it was just with a thumbs up pat on the shoulder. One of Val's favorite things to talk about was his María, he would tell Michael about everything his sister did for him and how amazing and pretty she was, even asking about Michael's sister, to maybe set up a date for María as a favor for everything she's done for him between her and his "boyfriend's" sister. Except Michael INSISTED that he should meet Val's sister first, to make sure that she was "good enough" for his sister. Something about that didn't sit right with Val but he trusted this man with all his heart. Felt things for him that he had only ever felt with then before. So he finally brought Michael over one night when his mom wasn't home. Everything went fine at first, just him, Michael, and María hanging out in his room. Michael asked if Val could get him a drink and so Val went to go get him water. But when he came back the door was locked. "Guys are you playing a prank on me?" . . . "Guys?" It was completely quiet, except for some.. more than worrisome noises that started to arise, muffled a bit but still there. By the time Val finally got the door open with a bat his mother kept under her bed Michael had disappeared out the window. María was shaking and crying, lying in her bed with a
