Such a mare in that walk pirouette
A lot can change in 2 years
Watching them grey out is so interesting to me
I really hope that she doesnāt get too much lighter tbh. Her mom was white white and it ended up causing her to die at 20 because of melanomas
The grey gene takes no prisoners
Hello all. I hate to come to tumblr asking for help⦠Bit Iām desperate. Ā In the afternoon of the 21st of May, my mare, Dusky laid down while we were unloading hayā and began to push. Weād known she was close to foaling, but didnāt know when she might goā but, weād just gotten our answer. Hearts all stopped, however, when we saw the color red. Red Bag Syndrome. (Placenta Previa. )
Immediately what should have been a beautiful moment because a frantic one, as we slashed the bag open, and pulled out a tiny black colt, as rapidly as we possibly could. Once he was on the grass, our hearts collectively stopped in relief, as we realized he was breathing, moving sluggishly but surely. We named the colt āHuginnā for the Nordic raven of Thought, the companion of the Allfather Odinn, to keep with our Farmās general themeā all horses born here, recieve names to do with mythology. From the start, Huginn struggled. He was born early, and smallā the placenta was hemorrhaged and nearly black, on top of him being a red bag foal. Our vet was shocked that he was alive, even further that he was rambunctious and, most of all, healthy. Because he wasā a playful, and surprisingly sweet-natured colt. Huginn is now 3 months old, though only barely⦠And now heās in trouble. Ā Yesterday, 8-24-2016, our farrier let us know that his left stifle was slightly stiff. At times we had noticed this in the past, and stretched the legā we had always put it to playing too roughly with his brothers. We went out to stretch it, and all resolved to keep an eye on itā figuring it was just because he was in the middle of a growth spurt this time around. But two hours, later, when we went out, he was locked completely, the leg dragging behind him. The vet told us to start walking him up and down hills, and to back him to try to pop the patella back into place. A patella upward shift is a decently common problem in many breeds, particularly horses that are delicately built, or slenderā much like Huginn. The fact that heās a miniature means that this is still a common thingā and usually easily fixed on itsā own. At leastā in older horses. But Huginn is only three months old. The vet advised us to keep working him, and we did until we got to the point where we had full passive range of motion when we moved his leg- but he would still tense up whenever he stepped. Our vet then told us to give him some Banamine (pain medication) and stall him with his mother overnight, to see how he was doing in the morning. We did this with some anxiety, putting him into the stall that has the foaling cam in the rafters, to watch him through the night. Ā Come morning.. Both hind legs were locked up. So my mother hitched up our trailer and we rushed him to the vet. With us unable to lift him well, two men who were working on our neighbourās yard ran over. After some questions to what they could do to help, one of the men lifted Huginn into his arms, and carried him to our trailer, and we will always be very grateful. When Huginnās mother then decided that she didnāt want to be loaded, the two men lifted her as well, and into the trailer she went.
They were heroes, honestly, and those men are truly great examples of how wonderful people can be when animals are in need. By the time we got there, his left leg had unlocked and was moving well, but his right was completely stiff, and wouldnāt move, though he could hold himself up easily enough. The vet took him and his mother to a stall, and there, X-Rays were taken. Lots of them. He needs surgery. The tendons on both sides need to be loosenedā that way this wonāt happen again. The surgery will happen within the next week, and then he will need rehab. Once he heals⦠Heāll be like nothing ever happened. The vet says we wonāt even be able to tell this ever happened to him, that heāll be able to live the life any horse should have. However my parents just paid MY medical bills, and we all need some help paying for his. Iām not willing to let him go without the surgery he needsā he deserves a life. Deserves to be a horse, to run and play, to have fun. Heās a beloved family member, heās my baby. So Iām asking for help. I donāt want to have to ask for help. Iād love to be able to pay these bills on my own and be done with it. However this time, itās simply not an option, with my own injury having needed treatment. Anything that you can possibly donate, every little bit will help, will be appreciated more than you could possibly imagine. One dollar, one hundred dollarsā it doesnāt matter. Every little bit, every tiny amountā it adds up, and it will help him. All I want is for this colt to get better.Ā
My paypal is [email protected]. I can try to offer artwork commissionsā see my art here.Ā
And the lovely @asgardianhammer has offered to make graphics/promos for anyone who might wish to get something like that for a donation. See their work here.Ā
Please. If you canāt donate, please reblog thisā anything you can do helps, anything to spread the word or to help raise awareness, the better.Ā
Guys, the need for donations just got VERY URGENT. Huginn is going into surgery first thing in the morning. Please please please spread this, please donate if you can.Ā
Anyone who donates can come to me to ask for a tarot reading in return!
I can write a drabble if that would interest some donations
Guys, Huginn now has a fever. Please please please, spread this or donate if you can.
The surgery was a success, and so long as all goes well, he will be coming home tomorrow. Please continue to spread this, though, as heās going to need a lot of help getting back to 100%
probably one of the most unintelligent facebook posts ive read this monthš
Why does he have to use 'spank' it just sounds so dumb

Roger-Yves Bost & SYDNEY UNE PRINCE : clear round, qualified for round 4
Another equitation level: Olympics
Ps someone tell me if charlotte does a speech/announces the chunkerās retirement
She said its defs his last Olympics tho
I'm British so naturally I want our team to win the gold but I really think Isabell werth deserves it, valegro isn't the same horse I remember from London
This is like 4 days late but i thought desperados deserved it most of all, and verdades second. Iād have to watch the tests again to decide between valegro and weihegold. I didnāt think either of them were right, tho showtime made those mistakes so i couldnāt put them in bronze for my dream team (yet). And obviously not the spaniard, yeesh. But gawd compared to his world record at olympia which was a nice damn test, that was just sleepy. And the new freestyle didnāt help. They should have kept with the HTTYD thing since they only had two comps left to go rather than switching to a generic af one which didnāt help to enhance how energetic he looked like the old one did, nomsayin
I disagree, I think the new music was really fun and cool, and matched way better than wiehgold's (haha spelling) music. But hey, that's why the freestyle is so subjective, and the old music was still better. I just think wiehgold is a tad overscored. Agree with your first and second place getters though.
So I recently moved to a new barn and a lot of the upper level dressage riders are riding with two bits. Why do they do that? Is there a specific reason?
Yeah, double bridles are very common in dressage and (I believe) are even required at higher levels of competition. Both bits have a different action: the snaffle bit works like any other normal snaffle, it helps control impulsion and aids in bending the horse left and right. The curb bit is there for more leverage, as a way to increase vertical flexion (rounding the neck and bringing the nose in). Most riders with a double bridle typically ride mostly on the snaffle bit, and employ the curb only when a little extra help is needed. The curb rein ideally allows for more refined aids, because the energy from the front legs gets redirected promptly toward the hind end and helps improve collection/self-carriage. Of course, this isnāt always the case and some riders definitely abuse the leverage the curb gives them ā which is why you may see some controversy about double bridles online ā but when used correctly theyāre very helpful.
Thanks for such a lovely well worded explanation for them, great way if describing it to petiole who don't know.
Welcome to the famš
The Dutch rider explains why she made the heart-breaking decision to retire Parzival mid-test at the Olympics
Edit: I was going to post this without comment and see what others had to say, but I changed my mind. The FEI was right not to move Parzivalās performance down to give him a day to recover because one day is not long enough for a horse to recover from the effects of a fever and infection. Infections, fevers, and the drugs we give horses to lower their fevers and treat their infections can be severely stressful on a horseās body in ways that are not visible to the eye. Any vet who okays a horse to compete so soon after suffering from a fever ought not to be a vet. Iām kind of blown away by this whole story, but at least the horse didnāt have to finish his test.
its kind of hard to believe how over dramatised the story is like. constantly putting emphasis on what a hard decision it was? how so? if your horse is sick, deciding on whether or not he should compete should NOT be a hard decision, it should be a clear NO in any situation tbh. like, sure it sucked for her and her teammates but thats just something you have to be prepared for when you work with animals, that sometimes you just have to give up on certain goals for the sake of their health and well being.
like im glad he didnt have to finish the test but i dont see how she deserves any cookies or praise for not forcing a sick horse through a difficult competition, it should be common sense imo.
^^Agreed.
Especially considering the stress these horses are already under, after their long journey to the competition, likely no turnout, being kept in a busy, noisy, and unfamiliar environment with nervous people and horses all around, their bodies adjusting to different water and hay, etc. I would prefer to see the focus of the coverage go to the horseās wellbeing than to how the rider felt about not being able to ride.
This story does not add up. Itās been announced by NBC that Parzival has a hairline fracture in his jaw. How does a bug bite cause that?
Can you all stop creating lies? There are no reports of that being true. GO LOOK ON HER FACEBOOK YāALL. OMG.
āThe vets at the clinic took swaps from the nose and checked the blood. The temperature dropped gradually and by 15.30 it was 38.4⦠We then took x-rays from the jaw and echoed the area. Just making sure..All ok. ā
Can we not do this? Can we not make lies? What the hell guys. Stop lying for ~drama~ to villianize a woman who did the right thing.
āI slept at the stables, checking up on Parzi every hour⦠I was not going to leave him alone! Of course I didnāt get any sleepā¦Main thing, this morning temperature had dropped to 37.5! And the swelling again had come down a bit..New difficult descisions to make.. I had decided yesterday I was not going to compete, but now the temperature was back to normal, he looked fit, was eating and drinking good, I also didnāt want to let the team down⦠In the back of my mind knowing we had no reserve combination hereā¦.. What to do?Between 7am and 8am we were allowed to ride in the arena. I discussed with Jan Greve and Johan Rockx and decided we were going to walk and trot under saddle for 10 min and see how he wasā¦And so we did⦠We went to the arena, rode a few laps and he looked happy and fit. Coming back to the stables the temperature was still downā¦Again difficult descisions⦠What to do? He is fit now, but you know what happened yesterday⦠Nobody to fill in my place if I would withdraw, letting the team down.Questions questions⦠What is wise? I discussed with several vets and the team coach.. The FEI vets came and checked up on him around 10am. All gave green light to compete.. We decided I would give it a try. The fever was down, which means the toxics are out of his system. There is still a bit of swelling in the jaw, but we cooled it all the time and the swelling gets lessā¦I agreed to give it a try. Knowing the story, I took it easy in the warm up and didnāt want to ride full. He was ok, although he didnāt feel very powerful. Normal of course after a day like yesterday. I walked a lot to save the energy.. When I entered I already felt he was giving his utmost and being the fighter he is, he never gives up⦠But in order to protect him, I gave upā¦My buddy, my friend, the horse that has given everything for me his whole life does not deserve thisā¦. So I saluted and left the arenaā¦..āŖ#ātwoheartsā¬ā
Yes clearly this woman āabusedā her horse for the sake of her own personal gain.
Just. Stop.
Look, I realize that what NBC announced about the hairline fracture may be mistake in reporting. However, I have always been taught that a horse should never go back to work until at least a day has gone by without it having an abnormal temperature. And especially since the swelling in his jaw did not go down completely, Parzival should not have been ridden at all because even slight pressure on it would have have been extremely painful.
Its also important to remember that Parzival is not a healthy horse to begin with. He was actually hospitalized from Cardiac Arrhythmia in the past and has a very bad heart. People need to understand that Adelinde really took a huge chance with him here. Between the fever and the added stress heās under from travel, the chances of him having heart problems were already increased even without her riding him.
And, I know you donāt want to hear it, but Adelinde has abused Parzival for her own personal gain. Many times. She was banned from the 2010 World Equestrian Games for her use of rollkur in the warmup ring. And for the stewards to actually step in and ban her, his head would of had to have been in that position for more than 10 minutes (no wonder Parzival has heart problems). Then there were the beautiful photos and video that were taken of her riding him in the 2012 Olympics.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=12&v=3refcSYM_V4
So, she may have written a pretty little tribute to him on Facebook, but sheās still an abuser.
She was actually eliminated in 2010 in her test because he bit his tongue and they enforced the blood rule on it. Not defending anything, just saying your facts were off.
Opps! The horse was perfectly fine but the rider decided to retire just to be sureĀ
That second photo tho, jus sittin down for a cup of tea
Weihegold beat Valegro can I get a woop woop?
I personally think Weihegold is not the right one to be putting pressure on valegro, some of the other top horses are much nicer
Lancer in the long lines
He's pretty cute :)
Last weekend we learnt that white ponies and torrential rain donāt mixā¦. Neither do tempi changes and puddles apparently! Credit: Vicki Photos
OMG the cleanup afterwards
i swear the germans and the dutch are just from another planet and the fact that theyāre both probs going to get 2nd/3rd shows how much judges are like WELL FACK WE DONāT KNOW WHAT METHOD WE LIKE
anyway iām going to marry a german
watching them ride is so smooth and bootiful and aaaaghhhhh
you have no idea how happy I am about this development! I donāt have to feel so bad about our dressage riders anymore :3 (ecept Isabell Werth, she sucks, but what can ya do, as long as sheāS breathing, sheās part of the team :/)
In all honesty iām not so familiar with her (even tho sheās a household name, i know!). And unee bb and jessica von brendlow (?? Idk iām guessing here lol) are yours too , from memory? And wasnāt there some drama with rath when he first got the ride on toto that he tried the German method then switched to dutch bc it wasnt working with him and a lot of Germans felt ~betrayed~ by choosing that over their own? Or i heard something along the lines of that. So yeah over here i hear lots about the german vs dutch school as quite conflicting! Iām more into the āclassical germanā school rather than the 'classical frenchā anyway. And obviously both more than the modern dutch lawl. Anyway in summary iād never seen showtime or cosmo before and they were both gorgeous and harmonious tests so go you guys ššš
All Isabells horses just look a little 'off' to me. Like quite croup high, so I don't understand how she gets such high marks when her tests just look kinda on the forehand? Sort of?
useless fucking channel 7 app.Ā āevent hasnt commenced yetā it commenced 5 minutes ago you twats
If you can get it on your laptop, it seems less temperamental then. Just google Olympics on 7
