Today I Choose Messy Hair!
beatricelarson:
“Respect.” Beatrice said, nodding. She’d done her required chemistry, but it wasn’t her passion. “It’ll definitely be something in the natural sciences, preferably something where I can- literally- get my hands dirty.” Some days she wondered why she was even pursuing a degree, she had her magic, what more did she need from life? But then she remembered the promises that she’d made to Papa, and all thoughts of quitting and moving into a cabin the woods were pushed to the side. She was sure that she’d end up in that cabin eventually, but that would be once she’d gotten a degree and had a career. “Well it’s lovely to meet you, Valerie.” She said, returning their smile with one of her own, genuinely happy to have made a new friend.
Nodding with a smile, Val listened to Beatrice’s choice. “That sounds fun too! Spend a lot of time in the forest? We have some great areas to go exploring in! I keep telling myself I’m going to go and get lost one day but, for one reason or another, I don’t.” Valerie laughed a little. If it weren’t for their busy schedule, they’d try to get out more and explore the forest-to see what other creatures they could find. But, they had a few other things to take care of first. “Same Beatrice, same!” The shifter lead the way to the coffee shop and smiled inhaling the smell of the shop the moment they stepped in. “Wonderful! You ready to try that mocha now? Ready for the fireworks!” They teased wiggling their eyebrows knowing they was hyping up the drink too much-but who knew, maybe the other would love it also. And if not….then it’ll all still be for a good laugh.

darklighterxdemitri:
“I have a feeling that it’s more than that.” Demitri chuckled as he moved her hands down to her hips, swaying with her. “It’s going to take a little more than dancing for me to get my name.” He smirked as he lowered his head until his lips were next to her ear. “Prove to me that you can keep my attention and then I’ll give it to you.”
You’re right, she thought. Though the shifter wasn’t going to be telling the stranger that any time soon. Instead, Valerie continued moving to the beat and smirked at his answer. “Hmm…” she hummed, with her hand pressing his face closer to hers just as her body turned and her eyes met his. “Shame….” Don’t do it Val, warned her thoughts, as her fingers trailed down his jawline, “I had a feeling you and I could have had some fun tonight, but I don’t have anything to prove to anyone.” Placing a playful kiss on his cheek, Valerie stepped away from the mans arms winking at him with her final words, “I’ll see you around stranger.” The shifter wiggled between the bodies and quickly blended enough to hide from Demitri’s view as she bent her head down and quickly lifted it back up only to reveal a new face. A face with high cheekbones, round lips, dark blue eyes, and dirty blonde hair; a face which looked nothing like Valerie Bianchi. This was the part Val enjoyed most; blending in the crowd that was too busy with their own movements and thoughts to notice a woman who could change appearances in a second. As for the outfit, the shifter could simply argue that others in the club wore the same one.
montymcallister:
Monty hummed appreciatively. Sleep. Now there was a thought. If only that had worked out for him last night, he wouldn’t have found himself in such a state this morning.
“I don’t know, Val,” he said, a hesitant drag to his words. On the one hand, he had so rarely taken a sick day so far, and it was likely that he’d be struggling more than usual at work tonight if he went in. And a break did sound nice. But on the other, he’d take every shift he could get. He and Monica could make ends meet, but he felt better having whatever extra padding he could get. “I did ask for the shift…” That had been at least a week ago, before this most recent stretch of sleepless nights, but he had asked for more hours.
Val raised an eyebrow at Monty and drew back in her seat. “You know…that’s like the second time you’ve said no to hanging out with me.” She laughed a little shaking her head and looking out the window while adding, “I’m beginning to wonder if I did something wrong or if third time’s the charm?” The woman lifted her drink to her lips to take another long sip and returned her gaze towards him. “But, if you don’t want to hang out, that’s perfectly fine. Though I do strongly suggest a nap then before work.”
beatricelarson:
“I am, yeah! I still haven’t declared, although I know I’m running out of time. It’s going to be some kind of science, I just don’t know what.” She was into her sophomore year now, she knew she had to make up her mind soon but it was just a huge decision. Luckily she hadn’t been taking a full course load, needing to reserve free time between classwork and her job to work on her magic. “Well, thank you. I’m Beatrice.” She held out her hand for them to shake, figuring that proper introductions were in order.
“Oh science! I’m sure you’ll figure it out though! It’ll happen when you least expect it-as people say.” Val then offered a little bit about themselves. “I’m a huge fan of chemistry….I deal a lot with make up during my free time so, knowing what products have and what goes together helps a lot too. But biology, I just couldn’t get that subject down.” Physics was a word the shifter was not even going to mention. Val believed that word should be in the “Math” category somehow-not science. Valerie smiled at Beatrice and quickly shook her hand also. “Valerie!”
darklighterxdemitri:
“A little.” Demitri said with a smile as he watched her twirl to try to give herself some space. He folded his arms across his chest as he watched her. A chuckle escaped his lips as she winked at him but he said nothing as she began dancing. Out of all of his years of watching people dance, this woman definitely knew more than most. She wasn’t necessarily in his top ten that he had seen, but it was enough to impress him a little. And that rarely happened. “Where’d you learn how to dance like that?” He asked as he moved forward, quickly wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her towards him. If she was going to dance, it was going to be as close to him as possible.
A little? Valerie thought. She had the sense that wasn’t exactly the case. But does it matter? Valerie smirked finishing her little solo, and glanced down at his hands who were already making themselves comfortable around her waist. Lifting her eyes to meet his face again, the shifter answered, “Let’s just say I was one of those girls who was holding pompoms at football games and in many jazz talent shows.”
Still swaying her hips to the music, Valerie turned around with her back against him and lifted her hands up to wrap them around his neck. “What about you stranger? What’s it going to take to get a name?”
maggie-see:
Valerie laughed a little at her statement and nodded. “Yeah…tell me about it. Things haven’t changed yet even after high school-which I thought was the height of all gossip being out and about.” The shifter watched Maggie and then nodded, “You’re right….think I’ll make sure to go get some pepper spray before I head home tonight.” You can’t imagine that helping you during an attack with a vampire would you now Val?
The Bianchi daughter smiled wide at Maggie and knew she didn’t know what she was getting into if she wanted to hear all Valerie had to say; the woman could go on for days about different makeup and their properties. “I’d hope so! Being a freelance makeup artist requires me to know a lot about the new products coming out or just any products really. But, I also love learning about it all….” Valerie added some laughter and then offered while teasing, “Why don’t we set up a day to meet later on this week? Then I could show you all about getting “another face on”. While boring you with all the details of makeup?”
“There’s a song about that, isn’t there? High school never ends. Honestly adults are worse gossips than teenagers.” And ghosts are even worse than the living, she thought, trying not to grimace. “That’s a smart idea.” Maggie agreed, glad that Valerie was taking steps to protect herself.
“That would be fantastic. I’ll text you later and we can arrange something? You’ll have to be patient with me when we get together, though.” Maggie said, excited but also slightly nervous about the prospect. She knew that Valerie was something of an expert, seeing as she was a professional.

montymcallister:
Monty looked up in surprise at Valerie’s voice, offering her a, “Val, hey,” as he straightened up. They had talked occasionally about meeting up outside of work, but it hadn’t actually happened. Not outside of chance encounters, anyway. He slid the book he’d been using as a pillow closer to him, then drew in his cold coffee, making more space for her.
“Oh, no, but thank you. I think if caffeine hasn’t done anything for me by this point, I should just throw in the towel.” Or, at least, he was just going to have to down a hot coffee when he got home. He glanced down at his watch, grimacing at the display. “I’m not off today,” he corrected, a little belatedly, “I’ve just got dinner to close.” Because he hated himself, clearly. Maybe he shouldn’t have gotten out of bed so early?
“What about you? You look like you’re having a better morning than I am.”
Valerie watched the man in front of her and couldn’t help but chuckle a little before taking a sip of her mocha. “You’re probably right. A few hours of sleep would probably help also.” She suggested but wondered if it was the dreaming he was running away from or something else. It’s probably something else Val. Not everyone has bad dreams like you do.
The shifter made a face hearing that Monty would be covering the dinner shift. “Ohhh that’s going to be rough Monty. It’s gorgeous outside! Everyone’s going to be eating outside and enjoying the sunlight for as long as possible.” Her eyes glanced down at the book he was clearly not reading, smiling wide as she met his eyes again. “I am having a much better morning than you but I’m here to rub some of that off.” Val teased with a wink.
“So what do you say? Wanna call in “sick” and enjoy the rest of the day with your co-worker?”

montymcallister:
It really just had not been his day. Or week. At all. There were stressors at work every day and stressors at home and he hadn’t managed to swing a good night’s sleep in upwards of three days, and really, coffee could only do so much in the mornings. A drink before bed could only do so much at night.
So could he really be faulted for his current position: arms crossed over whatever he’d grabbed on his way out of the house (a book of some kind, pretending maybe he’d be productive with his time, uncaring of the content) where it rested on the table, head pillowed in on his arms, taking up valuable coffee house real estate despite having not touched his now-cold coffee in… a while.
When he heard someone coming up to said table, he didn’t lift his head in acknowledgement. “I’m good,” he said into his folded arms. Hungover. Exhausted. But not in need of emergency services. “If you need the open seat, it’s yours.”
Valerie had just finished an early day with her client who wanted her makeup don't to perfection it seemed; it didn’t matter that this was the forth time they did a “run-through” on the changes that needed to be done with each photo take. But, as long as the woman was paying Valerie, that was all that mattered. Plus, the shifter never complained or had an issue doing what she loved. That being said, Valerie was still a bit tired from an early 5am appointment.
Taking her peppermint mocha, Valerie turned around and looked for a seat to take when her eyes spotted a familiar coworker and smiled wide. After walking up to him and sliding into the seat across him, Val chuckled and shook her head. “You are not fine Monty. You seem just as exhausted on your day off as any other day at work.” She raised an eyebrow as she watched him and glanced at the items in front of him that he didn’t seem to care for. “Maybe something warmer will help? It has peppermint?” She offered.
darklighterxdemitri:
“A little more?” Demitri asked, a chuckle escaping his lips as he moved towards her. He recognized her. She had been at the party the other night. The girl that had actually caught his eye. Other than Heather, that was. But what he was doing with Heather was a little different, in his eyes. He wasn’t just trying to get close to her – he was also trying to cause so much terror in her world that she begged for him to put her out of her misery.
This, with the girl in front of him, would simply be fun. He watched as she placed a hand on his and then turned towards the dance floor. He smirked and walked towards where the dancing was happening, tugging her along until they were in the center of it. “Dance for me.”
Valerie watched the stranger with curious eyes and chuckled as he made their way towards the dance floor. Not a stranger Val, look closely. Her eyes searched his face knowing he seemed familiar and when she caught his smirk, it all came back to her. Sure the woman had gotten drunk that birthday weekend, but she hadn’t been drunk when she first saw him. Not that any of that mattered now-the shifter didn’t even know his name.
“Bossy now aren’t we?” Smirking, Valerie twirled wide enough to give her some dancing room and winked at a few other women and men who gave her space to drop down to the beat. Turning back around, her eyes caught the strangers again and winked. The shifter would let him have this one dance for two reasons: she came to dance and because Valerie knew how to put on a show. You’re not that person anymore Val. Ignoring the thoughts, the woman started to dance in sync with the music.
darklighterxdemitri:
location: underworld night culb closed: @valeriebianchi
The underworld night club caught his eye when he saw the sign. He had been to hell before, and even referenced it as the underworld at times. It was a joke, mostly, but now he wanted to see what the club was really about. Was it dark and mysterious? Did the most evil of evil acts happen in this place? A devious smile played on his lips as he entered the club.
It honestly didn’t look much different than a regular night club. But what he did notice was that most of the people in the room weren’t human. At least, as far as he could tell. One woman, however, caught his eye. Little waitress. Demitri smirked as he moved towards her. “So what brings you here?” He asked and as he did, his eyes raked across her body. “Dancing, maybe?”
Valerie needed a night off. From both her waitress job at Lake House Bar & Grille and her freelance makeup artist on the side. So the shifter thought of what better way to do that then having some fun at the club with a few drinks and a little purple dress.
Standing by a high table, Val twirled her finger on the edges of her drink and turned to look at the stranger. She had seen him before but the woman just couldn’t quite remember where yet. “That....and a little more.” The woman said, giving him a playful wink and smirking seeing his eyes wonder about. Her’s on the other hand, turned back to the dance floor as the music changed.
