Princess Luna, Ruler of Equestria
So recently I've been brainstorming an AU where Luna is the Princess of Equestria while Celestia is the main villain of season one.
In canon Luna becomes Nightmare Moon because she hated how no pony loved her night and wanted to force her subjects to love it and, in the end, was banished by Celestia to the moon.
In my AU, Celestia is the one that gets banished. But not to the Moon, but to the Sun, which causes bad things to happen. While the Moon only really affects the sea, the Sun is much more "powerful". It brings life to everything, without it, Equestria would die. When Celestia ended on the Sun, she, in a way, merged with it.
Once Luna became the sole pony responsible for the day and night cycle, Celestia's anger reached a breaking point and she tried to attack her sister from the Sun. It caused Luna great pain and her horn almost broke from the strain. But that's not all, Celestia's anger affected the Sun too. It would grow incredibly hot very fast, causing the temperatures to spike to dangerous levels, forcing Luna to lower it much quicker than she should.
Because of that, Equestria's days turned short and days long, much colder too. Luna acted quickly , and with the help of her subjects, found ways to grow crops in glasshouses and to use magic crystals as light sources. To help with the dark, she tasked unicorns to find a way to make the night brighter. In the coming years, the night sky was decorated with thousands of stars, making the night sky bright and colorful.
At some point, the Sun became more danger than a blessing and Luna stopped raising it. Generations later, Day and the Sun became folklore, something most believed to be just stories.
Thanks to the help of her subjects, Luna believed that every pony was important to the betterment of the Ponykind and she created The School for Bright Minds, where the three tribes could come and learn, but also bring their fresh outlook on life.
Many years later, a young filly would show up and gain a cutie mark that would strike fear in Luna's heart...
