A Healthy Dog is a Happy Dog
When it comes to keeping your dog in good shape, be aware that it is not enough to have your dog walk from one room to another. As dog owners, I think we have the responsibility to keep our dogs healthy and happy. Here are some tips that will help you to get started.
*Don’t Over Do It With The Food
I’ve been in that situation and something I learned about making a dog happy is not about feeding him/her at all times. No matter how badly you might feel, dogs should not be eating ten times a day. A healthy dog should eat a maximum three times a day as long you are giving it in small portions. If you are using store-purchased food, you can read the portions on the container. And if you are feeding your dog homemade food, do a little research online. Of course, you’re vet will always be able to give you clear guidelines on what your furry friend needs.
*Go For A Walk
Dogs that sit around the home all day are not likely to get much exercise. To avoid this, it’s important to at least consider taking your pooch for walks everyday. All dogs are different and in most cases you can determinate their needs based on their size, age and breed. But just to give you an idea, all dogs should have at least three 15-minute walks, with more active breeds needing as much as three 45-minute walks.
*Don’t Carry Your Dog All The Time
Most owners choose to carry their pet around with them. This is usually when a dog is small, and the owner does not want the dog to do certain things. However, doing everything for the dog does not allow them to run around, exercise, socialize, be independent. Rather, it creates is a spoiled and sometimes aggressive or possessive dog.
Obesity isn’t only a serious problem among the human population- it’s a common one among pets and can shorten their lives due to problems such as liver disease, diabetes, and joint problems. Give your pet the support they need, and proper exercise and nutrition should be at the core.
