hii, just wanted to once again make the disclaimer that i did not finish s4 and only saw the finale for s5 and quite frankly do not plan on finishing. these are set around season 2, but should you want to imagine a later or pre-canon version of hopper go hog wild!
── cg!hopper who isn't particularly good with words ( or communication as a whole ) but who will always listen when you need it, a rough, hairy hand on your smaller one resting shakily on the wooden breakfast table. hopper who communicates primarily through grunts; you can recognize his mood by the timbre of the sound. as you go through your story or stumble over a vent, he'll oftentimes shift, instinctively leaning towards you so as to listen better, grunting occasionally in approval or disgust.
── cg!hopper who gets cranky when you overplay your disgust at his smoking. at first he's defensive, stubbornly saying you're not the boss of him as if he's the child and you're the adult. even when trying to joke about it, he's tense and his smile doesn't reach his eyes. while secretly, the smell comforts you, reminding it of your dad, despite his defensiveness, he takes your critique to heart doing his very best to cut back on the bad habit. you have to hold his hand a lot to prevent his wandering fingers from absentmindedly reach for his front pocket for the crumpled pack.
── cg!hopper who will bribe you with donuts and tv time for when the cravings are especially bad. he's doing his best, but beating an addiction is no walk in the park. you who gifts him a pack of candy cigarettes for christmas, eliciting a genuine laugh, deep and husky, though he regains his composure long enough to thank you genuinely.
── cg!hopper who lets you have backwards dinner on fridays, but insists that the deal remains open only if you promise to eat your vegetables. if you're good he even lets you eat in front of the tv, grumbling as you flip through the channels with your dinner on the floor next to you, ice cream long consumed. he'll good naturedly give you shit, scolding you for letting your food get cold and threatening to take away this privilege, yet he gets up with a heavy sigh to reheat your plate for you as you get sucked into your program.
── cg!hopper who knows how smart you are, and does not baby you or downplay your capabilities. he can be tough on you and while you may bring it up in arguments, you're secretly grateful for it. something you'll never verbalize, but you both know deep down.
── cg!hopper who brings you donuts from the station, setting them on the table for you with a tired grunt before crashing in his easy chair. even when he's too tired to speak, this act of love on its own is enough to make you feel special. he needs his alone time after a particularly long shift, but he suddenly needs to use the restroom next to the kitchen as soon as he hears the crinkle of the box opening from his place in the living room.
── cg!hopper who is very protective of you, at times in an overbearing way. he wants to know your whereabouts at all times, fear expressing itself as frustration when you're late to an agreed upon meeting time. he attempts to monitor what you're watching under his roof; forcing you to continue flipping past the violence and gore of so many shows your peers are watching. on the nights that you're left alone when he has to work overtime, you'll secretly watch all the x rated and violent programs. should he catch you, however, that's no tv until you've earned back his trust. and no more backwards dinners on fridays either until you've proven yourself mature enough.
── cg!hopper who is very sentimental despite the gruff exterior and persona he presents the world with. he keeps a photo of you in his wallet, and has a few of your drawings in a folder at work, showing them proudly to the rest of the bullpen on slow, lazy days.
── cg!hopper whose eyes get misty when you call him "papa" or "dad", despite his initial hesitance towards you using paternal names for him. he'd freeze up or respond gruffly, but that wouldn't stop you. his only hard no is "daddy" as it's what sarah called him.
── cg!hopper whose philosophy is "never go to bed angry without saying good night." no matter how big of a blowout fight you two may get into, when it gets around time for you to go to bed, he'll shuffle in apologetically, one hand on the back of his neck, unable to quite meet your eyes. "i just wanted to say, i'm sorry, kiddo," he'll mumble. "i only worry because i care." no matter how stubborn you are in your anger, he knows not to hold onto his, offering to tuck you in even on the nights you choose to huff and ignore him.

ꕀ⠀nap time is the best time!! you're one of the only, if not the only person he allows on his bed, but his blankets and sheets are softer than silk so it's always a well rest!!
