As much as I wanted to see a Loustat kiss, I think it makes sense that there wasn’t one in season 3.
I don’t think the reason was just to be a slow burn. I think it’s absence showed how much more important Lestat’s relationship to Louis is.
In a season with so much explicit and implicit objectification, sexualisation, and abuse of Lestat’s body, it was refreshing that none of it came from Louis.
Maybe I’ll write more in depth on each of these later, but we have the following:
His mom: big ol’ can of worms
His colleagues: Christine, Dee, some band members (Larry kissing him; TC’s comments about Black Licorice; Salamander thinking about it before Lestat says he doesn’t sleep with band mates)
His fans: Baby Jenks, vodka bottle fans, and those fans that Dan interviewed on the street who spoke about his attractiveness
Daniel: comments in episode three and revenge porn
Armand: Lestat weaponizing his sexuality to gain the upper hand (also was Lestat’s body with Louis and Armand in the last episode? and did Armand touch it to get a rise out of Louis?? I’ll have to go back and watch again)
The Tooth Team: physical violence and the glory hole
Nikki: not in a negative way!! I was just struck by the fact that it seems they slept together on the first day they met in Paris, whereas he romanced Louis for like six months before making his move
The priests and then the actors when Lestat was young (not explicitly stated, but I think it can be interpreted that way)
Magnus: ‘nuff said
Mr. “I’m quite sexy,” himself, Lestat
There are probobly some that I’m overlooking and there are some that don’t fit the model (Claudia) but the lack of a kiss (or more) with Louis, to me, made their relationship weightier.
The touches Lestat and Louis do have are touches that indicate a deep and intimate relationship. One that’s lasting.
A pinky touch while talking about leaving it all behind so they can be together in the desert
A hug to comfort Lestat after the video leak and incest reveal
Touching each other’s necks to confirm that the other is ok
So — as much as I would have loved a kiss, I think the lack of it fits perfectly into this particular season.
