(sophie, 28, gmt, she/her) welcome to london, DANIEL MOLLOY! did anyone ever tell you that you look just like LUKE BRANDON FIELD? well, no matter, we hear that you are 27 and working as a JOURNALIST. we also hear that you currently HAVE your memories from INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE and have a tendency to be INQUISITIVE as well as RECKLESS.
Season 2 episode 5 has been rattling around in head since it aired, and I just couldn't shake the urge to write young Daniel, so we're going clean slate! Here's a slightly cut down version of his biography:
I’ll be drawing my inspiration from AMC’s TV show and the Devil’s Minion chapter in The Queen of the Damned. I did see the '94 movie, but I barely remember it, and I’ve never read the books in their entirety! I might end up rewatching the movie and reading the books, but for now, my main inspiration is the show with smatterings of Devil’s Minion
Daniel was an intrepid young reporter in San Francisco, interviewing anyone who had a story - single mothers, broke bankers, guys at bars. Whatever money he made from selling stories freelance went towards his next score
That was until 1973. He met a young man at a gay bar named Louis de Pointe du Lac, a vampire who wanted to tell his story. They went back to his apartment, where Daniel thought they were going to mess around for a while, but Louis really wanted to tell his story to the bright young reporter with a point of view
Cut a long and effed up story short (real short, thanks to edited and fogged memories), and Daniel wound up in that apartment for five days and six nights. Not that he remembers. He woke up in a drug den, and if it weren’t for the audio tapes from that night, he would’ve probably thought it was a really bad trip
The version he remembers is going home with Louis, listening to him tell his story, right up until Claudia leaves Lestat and Louis to board the train. Then Daniel interrupted to beg to be made a vampire, and Louis attacked him. Then it's lights out until Daniel woke up in a drug den
But that wasn't the whole story. In truth, the 514 year old vampire Armand was there, in that apartment. He saved Daniel from Louis, and he kept him there for five days and six nights. He removed his memories of what transpired, leaving Daniel with fragments. And it was thanks to those flashes of memories, and the haze, that Daniel started to unravel. He tried to find Louis again, tried to plead with him to make him a vampire again. But instead, he found Armand
This is where we get into Devil's Minion chapter territory, and diverge from show canon (as it is currently). Armand found Daniel fascinating, and he didn't want to kill him right away. He wanted to let him live, to watch him, this human with knowledge of vampires, to see what he would do. So began their relationship - a chase across the globe, with Armand sometimes catching up, sometimes watching from afar, sometimes staying with Daniel for weeks, sometimes abandoning him. And Daniel always waiting to be turned, demanding it, begging, imploring, shouting. But Armand always refused
This is how they spent the rest of the 70s and the early 80s - Daniel in a haze of drugs and homelessness when he was alone, with stints in the most expensive hotel rooms in any given city, when he was with Armand. To cut another long story short, it did not last. And Armand took those memories from him, leaving vague impressions and empty swathes of time in their place
Now, Daniel is here in London, with pieces of his memories from his interview with Louis, but not much else
So, that’s where I’m leaving things in terms of canon. I might be incorporating big canon stuff into my backstory later, but for now, Daniel is a young journalist who’s sort of just found himself in London, and he’s figuring stuff out
