Just a walk through a grove of giant Sequoia in Yosemite, a geyser basin in Yellowstone, or to any mountaintop in America generates enough friction to burn off that thin veneer of the city and reveal the country within all of us, and I don't mean Mississippi or Georgia, I mean Mali or Gahna.

The African within all of us is just waiting for the opportunity to walk, discover, and explore again. Give her or him that moment of spirit, of grace, to awaken our bodies, minds, and souls to the joy of being Indigenous again, children again, exploring wild new worlds."

Please read to the end. Very important message and request for my daughter.

Several months ago my daughter was incarcerated for an act of self-defense. I am unable to share a lot of details because this is an active case. I can say there is evidence that will exonerate her.

We managed to get her an attorney early this year after it became clear the public defender was not going to be adequate representation. Unfortunately, the judge continues to grant continuances due to one of the plaintiffs not showing up at court. A new trial date has been set for mid-June. Her attorney is requiring another $5,000.00 to stay on the case and follow through the trial.

This was quite unexpected and I am not in a financial position to help her.

My daughter is a good person and a great mother. She has been separated from her daughter and family for 9 months. She lost a good job at UC Hospital here in Cincinnati. She has experienced harassment in jail and has been assaulted by other inmates. Yet, despite it all she has spent her time in jail trying to give back by participating in a program where she talked with young women about her struggles, including childhood trauma she experienced.

We need your help to ensure my daughter receives a fair trial and is brought home. I know we've all heard the stories of innocent people being locked up for years because they couldn't afford a good defense. It is shameful. PLEASE be a part of not letting this happen to my daughter! Whatever amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
