Hanna Marin—
The first day of school was something that Hanna Marin traditionally looked forward too. The fancy clothes, geeky freshman, and most importantly, her bestie, Mona Vanderwaal. The whole thing just seemed to never fail to get her pumped for a whole new full of promise. Except, this year? She just wasn’t feeling too festive. And for some reason, she just couldn’t help but feel a bit dull toward it. Nevertheless, this would most certainly not stop her from looking her absolute best for the first day. Which, of course, was nothing short of perfection.
That morning, she set her alarm for five o’clock. Her morning schedule was usually especially complex. She made sure to squeeze in a workout before her shower, which preceded her breakfast of a lone fruit low-cal smoothie. After that was out of the way, then came the glam. She dressed herself in the best that there was to offer. Designer outfit, designer shoes, even designer makeup - all of which paid for by her mother, who oh-so desperately longed for her daughter’s popularity. When she finished, she took a final look at herself, and grinned with one firm nod. Mona had offered to drive her that morning, but instead she’d opted for her mother to drive. As they arrived, she smiled over at her mom. “Love you,” she murmured, exiting the vehicle. Glancing down at her phone, she realized the first bell was set to ring in less than five minutes. Whatever. You can’t exactly rush perfection. Plus, being fashionably late was something she was great at. With one click of the heel, all eyes were on her. Typical. But there was really only one person she intended to speak to that morning. Her baby blues finally landed on Mona’s, and she greeted her a slight smirk. “Oh, I’m not too late, am I?” she chirped in response, folding her arms over her chest.
"You wouldn't be late if a quarter-to-nine meant two minutes," Mona chides with a sharp but friendly tongue. Her face is all serious, but the blonde girl can tell that she is about to crack. After a few moments of giving Hanna the blank stare, she breaks out into a light chuckle. If there is anybody in this world she has a weak spot for it is Miss Marin. She is pretty certain that she would take a bullet for the girl if it came down to it.Â
The petit girl walks over to her best friend in the whole wide world, so that she is standing at her side. She drapes an arm around her shoulders and clicks her tongue in scolding fashion. She is a little pissed that Hanna was late and they will not get to chat before class starts, but it is nothing she isn't already used to. Hanna is always late for everything. Mona knows she still has self-esteem issues from when she used to be Hefty Hanna and must have obsessed in front of the mirror before leaving home.Â
Mona dances her fingers on Hanna's shoulder. "What am I ever going to do with you Miss Marin?," she teases in a melodic voice. This school year is going to be tougher than she imagined, especially since things between her and Sean seemed to be pretty steady.
