The thing about love

We’ve been taught from a young age

that love

is either between a man and a woman

or a mother and her child.

Never between two women

Never between two men

Never between two souls

Never between a father and his child

Never in a sisterhood

Never in a brotherhood

Never in a friendship way

Never in an admiring way

Never towards another color of skin

Never towards the planet

Never towards animals

Never in a way of activism

Never as a way of support

Never as a way of acceptance

Never as a way of celebrating life

And of course

Never in the way of loving ourselves
