GDES 3315. The assignment was to create animated gifs (a total of 5). They were meant to bring out what stood out the most during our visit to Cesar Chavez. What stood out to me, being an Austenite was all the changes taking place in the neighborhood. I had not noticed before until I actually looked at it.
This assignment was a pre task before our major assignment and its purpose was for us to get more familiar with the software. Since this was only the second time using the software my process was to ask a lot of questions and trying different things to try and figure out what did what. I’d say that this actually made me a little more comfortable working with the software.
For this assignment we had to do a video that had an underlining meaning to it, I chose the scientific act of fusion. My story is about a match who is at a bar and meets a woman who in this case is air, as they dance they burn the whole bar down. This embedded the allegory within the story because when you fuse air and fire well you get an even bigger fire. I wanted something playful and I believe I accomplished that. I did not have a specific process, what I did do was started at the beginning. I knew the sequence of the scenes and would do one scene at a time that way I would not get overwhelmed. Some design choices I had to make was how much texture to add to the characters portrayed and how much vector to use with in the composition so each would balance out.
The assignment was to create three compositions that were of the constructivism era. I really enjoyed this assignment. The process I created while doing the assignment made it easy for me to create my compositions. I first sketched out what I wanted to do for each composition, after I had a set idea I went out and took pictures of what I needed. A few decisions I had to make was scale, color and images. I had to decide what looked best as far as each composition. As far as color, I decided to use the same color throughout all three compositions to give it that kind of unity to all my designs.
Pop art should have been the easiest three compositions to do for this assignment. For some reason I found it to be a challenge. I got some inspiration from Andy Warhol. Looking back on this I could have done a way better job. I did not have a process as to designing the compositions, which I think is evident. My favorite out of all of them is Meister Eckhart, who was a theologist. I did not know how to make him interesting so I took inspiration from the comic strips and decided to fill his face with the dots. I do not think this approach was successful but I do like the overall awkwardness of it.
The challenge for these photographs were taking these images using tactile so you had to have some form of texture in all the three photographs. Two of my photographs were taken outside; there is so much rich texture in nature that I though would look very nice in my compositions resolving the matter of tactile in the assignment. My last composition I used construction paper and a pipe cleaner for the tactile aspect of my composition. The pipe cleaner I also used it to make the composition have a pop of color. I did not have a particular process and I just took my subjects and took a massive amount of pictures at different angles, trying different poses or positions.
Kitchen Of Meaning poster where we selected a word and designed around that word. My word was hyperbole which means an exsaggeration. So I played upon words from Dr. Seuss who inspired me. I also wanted to inspire my fellow class mates with this poster that if we set our minds to it we could move mountains.
The assignment was to create a weather report for your choice of 4 cities. Using hierarchy to distinguish between location, time and category. The process that we used helped us create this video in 3 steps. We did one sequence at a time and got reviewed by our peers for each sequence and slowly reworking each sequence to fix any errors or mistakes. Some decisions I had to make were, how to make each sequence transition in a way that would flow into the next latch. There are still issues with in my video but I believe overall I accomplished the project.
This was an instructional design where we had to teach our viewers to do something. My instruction was to make a decorative pillow. I choose to make a blog mock up where my viewers could go online on their phone or tablet and look at it while actually making it.
This was a project where we had to find letter forms in everyday life. So my word was YUCK. The letter consist of a tree trunk, car mark, bamboo plant and the shadow of a street sign.
This is my final book for my material studies. The project itself was rather fun, I really enjoyed doing this project. I do like the final overall look. Maybe pink was not the best choice for the book but I still like it very much.
This map was the final map which happens to be my favorite one. The cognitive map, includes all your thoughts in the course of your route to school. I find myself stuck in traffic part of the morning so I have a lot of time to think. I used a relaxed color as a base because usually I am pretty relaxed in the morning. I choose to connect my thoughts with boxes and lines, as well as showing the time frame that I am in every morning.
The second part of our assignment was to create a map of our senses. What are we touching, smelling, hearing, tasting, and seeing on our route to school. I used colors to symbolize each sense and even more symbols for everything else.
This was an assignment has 3 parts. The first part is where we had to map out our physical route every morning. I am a commuter, so this map was my drive to school every morning. It is a bit boring just because there are so many business that I pass along the way that there is no way I could fit them into one small map. I tried to add more playfulness by adding color and weird shapes.
There is a method to the madness. In this method we did an umbrella idea (Olympics) under that idea we had 3 sub ideas. For me that was swimming, track and volleyball. I really enjoyed this method and will definitely will be using it in the future.
This assignment was to test our illustrator/pen tool expertise. The motto: Less points is better.
