After her last class finished, Vanessa headed out to her favourite coffee shop – the one she’d always go to in order to kill the time between her last class ending and practice starting. It was a routine she’d had since a couple of weeks after her first day, unfortunately that day luck didn’t seem to be on her side. It was busier than normal, and that came with there being no free tables. Eyes scanning the seating earlier, she pepped up when she noticed somebody sitting at a table alone – the happiness short lived when she realised exactly who it was at the table. Hand tightening around her cup, she cast one more desperate glance around the room searching for any other available option – a huff of irritation leaving her when she couldn’t find another viable option.
Of course he had to be there. To be in her favourite place on the campus – he couldn’t let her have anything. While she knew it wasn’t entirely logical, there was a part of her mind screaming that he did it on purpose purely to annoy her.
Walking over to the table, she couldn’t help but grind her teeth slightly at what she was going to have to do.
“Excuse me?” She spoke up once she was within earshot. “There’s no other seats, so I can I....” Trailing off she gestured down to the other empty chair across from him. If he’d been anyone else, she would have added a thank you. She would have asked more politely if she could sit down, opposed to trailing off at the end.
But he wasn’t someone else. As far as Vanessa was concerned, he was enemy number one – and that came with her not needing to bother with normal social politeness.
