The cast on the blue carpet!
Ryan with fans today.
Me when I realize that 911 is using Ravi and Harry as the platonic bro duo do-over by having Ravi date Harry’s older sister like Eddie was supposed to date Maddie 😭
if you had told me a ryan guzman interview would be what makes me still have hope for buddie, i would have laughed in your face, but look where we are now
friendly neighborhood social worker therapist that works with CPS here to discuss the logistics of Buck getting Theo*
There's this thing called kinship care. This is when a child is taken into custody by the state, and then a relative or a close non-relative takes either temporary or permanent guardianship of the child. Kinship care is not the same thing as foster care, though many aspects are the same. The biggest difference is that a person taking in a child that is known to them via kinship placement does not have to go through foster licensing. They don't have to do the months of classes or licensing requirements. In fact, a kinship placement could potentially happen within days of a child being taken into state's custody. The only things that happen are the people taking the child have to have a home visit with the state social worker to ensure it's an appropriate space, and they do a federal background check. That's it.
In this instance, all Buck would have had to do is call up Deidra and say "I would like to take custody of Theo" and she would have scheduled him for a home visit (probably within the week) and gotten his info to send off a background check. Following the background check coming back and after she does her home visit, it would be a matter of days that she would be bringing Theo to his home. What he was probably signing there with her is the placement letter, which is the document that gives Buck legal right to make decisions for Theo. The placement letter is supposed to be provided at the time the child comes to the home, but it can sometimes be after.
Anyway I am so going to write a fic about the process and what it looked like for him and alllll the appointments and resources and things that come with being a kinship home.
** this is assuming that there were no other relatives that could have taken Theo
After surviving another finale, Guzman opens up about fighting to be included in the ABC drama's ICE raid storyline, how playing Eddie has h
Post episode interview with Ryan.
i do think this season has pros and cons regarding eddie.
the cons obviously are how he still doesn't feel like part of the 118 (never going to forget that 'it's not about you', sorry), how all his storylines seemed pointless, and how we have to rely on subtext.
but we had episode 17, in which he was able to talk about shannon and about how her death affected him and chris and dia de los muertos that touched a bit on his grief and how to deal with it instead of being angry. it's more than we had in previous seasons, but the bar is really low so...
and the other 'eddiesodes' highlighted how eddie was the 'sun' for the people he saved (abigail, buck, the immigrants) and how the system failed people all the time, and it ended up being for nothing. i thought we would delve deeper into it in this season finale, especially with theo and how eddie could talk to buck and convince him to adopt him, but it seems like i was reading too much into it. the same with his religion and him not looking at any woman for 2 years now. the buddie of it all was not bad. they had moments and it was shown how intertwined their lives are, but they didn't show any deep conversation between the two of them and the season finale episode was really a let down in my opinion.
but IF (a big if) tim uses his failed attempts at giving eddie storylines as a new plot about how eddie feels like he always has to give his everything to everyone, always trying to help while being isolated from the 118 and suffering alone (with his survivor's guilt, his catholic guilt, and his repression), then maybe i will look at this season and like it a little bit more. as it is, for me, it was really mid.
the episodes were good, great even, but they felt really disconnected somehow.
this season, we have seen the core four rally for each other. except eddie. we saw it with everyone coming together for hen's illness, everyone supporting buck through his withdrawal, and everyone defending chimney as captain when he was wrongly accused. we even saw them all show up for harry at the fire academy graduation where he was welcomed to the 118.
so what about eddie? i've been thinking about this for a while. we have seen eddie slowly opening up to more people than just buck this season, but i wasn't sure if eddie would let everyone help him (yet - i do think he is working towards letting others in!). until we got stills
then it hit me. this season has been defined by bobby grief. hen's illness was connected to her bobby grief, just like buck's dependency, chimney's relationship with captaincy, and harry's decision to join the 118. plus the season opened with the space arc, which was a metaphor for athena's depression and grief after bobby's death. so however the 118 came together for eddie, it needed to connect to bobby.
i think the finale is going to parallel lab rats by using eddie as bobby's mirror. in the still in the hospital waiting room where they get the news from the surgeon, eddie, buck, and harry are missing. if buck and harry are locked outside of the hospital, then it would parallel athena and buck being locked out of the lab last time. the stakes of both emergencies are caused by lockdowns. if eddie is separated and stuck in an elevator where no one can get to him, we are essentially mimicking the conditions of bobby being locked in the lab on his own.
i think this could bring everything full circle, especially if the 118 saves eddie when they couldn't save bobby. i think they can even connect this all to eddie's survivor's guilt ('i don't know, i wasn't there') if he gets shot because he is trying to stop the shooter. if he tries to stop it and fails, then maybe he can finally let go of some of that guilt he is feeling.
i think it would be very healing for all parties involved. eddie would realize that he doesn't need to put himself on the line to save everyone. he was here this time, but instead *he* almost died. on the other hand, the 118 would have the chance to save eddie in a way they couldn't save bobby. bobby may not be here, but he brought them together.
(added bonus: i really hope eddie goes to the chapel to feel closer to bobby - i think it would really tie everything together)
molly and james wrote 8x15 lab rats and 9x18 hearts and flowers. if anyone is going to parallel that episode, i think it is going to be them. in my opinion, it would finally complete the bobby grief arcs - especially if we are right and the episode ends with baby nash's birthday party. it's one final way to say goodbye to bobby before we move on to the next season
almost a week after the last episode and i am finally at peace with the sperm donor storyline
i was really mad about it and thought the message they were sending was not ok (and i still have things to say about it), but buck adopting theo wouldn’t be something out of the blue; he would do it whether or not he was the sperm donor.
did i like the way this storyline was written? kinda. i think they tried to make it clear that buck wasn’t theo's father and didn’t have any obligation to him, but the scene between buck, kameron, and connor was really weird and too focused on the biology/genetics aspect of things.
but the 'buck adopting theo' of it all makes sense if theo doesn’t have a next of kin. not because he’s the donor, but because buck would do everything in his power to help his friends and a kid. it's who he is.
with everything this season (eddie seeing again and again how the system fails), i'm sure eddie will convince him and/or help him adopt theo.
and i know people think it’s unrealistic, but the show could explain buck being able to do this if they say he is considered a NREFM or if connor and kameron left a will stating that theo should stay with him. him adopting theo could be difficult because of his job and his recent history of dependency, but not really impossible.
i think this has potential, even if it was not handled the best way at the beginning.
#That's Their Buck
psst, hey, buck loves to kiss this little freckle behind eddie's ear lots and lots, pass it on
idk maybe it’s just me getting annoyed but i’m getting déjà vu from día de los muertos with these instagram posts
like why are we ignoring a major part of the episode so we can see the same ‘mr poop’ line again??
