a blind leap of faith
Title: a blind leap of faith
Fandom: Emmerdale Pairing: Charity Dingle/Vanessa Woodfield Word Count: 13,961 Summary: The first time Vanessa sees Charity Dingle is across a crowded ballroom on the seventh of November. She doesn’t forget the date, she doesn’t think she’ll ever forget the date.
Vanessa doesn’t know who she is then, of course, she doesn’t know the trouble she’ll eventually cause, the damage, the complete upheaval of her whole life that will follow this fateful meeting, all she knows is that the woman in the floor length blood red gown is drop-dead gorgeous, very possibly the most attractive woman that Vanessa’s ever seen in her entire life.
Or a Vanity Assassin-AU.

Title: i need you to know, i’m not asking for a miracle Fandom: Emmerdale Pairing: Charity Dingle/Vanessa Woodfield Word Count: 9800 Summary: “Are you staying then?”
Charity looks up at the sound of Vanessa’s voice, frowning. “Here? At Barton’s Bumbling Circus?” She snorts. “Not a chance. Dropping Moses is all I’m here for.” She kicks at a bank of snow piled up next to her. “Near Christmas and he wants him every weekend.”
Notes: Here’s some things you need to know, not ranked in order of importance:
The list of people who have left the village is much smaller than the list of those who haven’t.
Kirin is still on the former of those lists.
Emmerdale may have forgotten about Vanessa and Moira’s friendship.
I have not.
Johnny Woodfield-Barton is a thing. Full stop.
Many liberties are taken and none are apologized for.
This is the last of the fics I started with the intention of them being posted for Festive @vanityfest and though it’s past Christmas, I can now end the year knowing I’ve accomplished at least one thing while avoiding many, many others.

Charity gets a letter.
Some unpleasant inferences in this chapter, and some mention of prostitution and abuse. Fair warning if that’s not your bag.
Not sure this qualifies as a @vanityfest Christmas treat, but still…I suppose this is what happens when you have conversations about “stuff” and it marinates in your silly head for a few days.

For @tigerlo
Vanity Ficlet
In lieu of a Vanity Christmas morning scene in yesterday’s episode, here’s a little something.
There’s more light than there should be in her bedroom in the middle of the night, that’s the first thing that comes to mind. The next thing is that there’s talking happening, very close to her bed. Charity opens one eye and sees Johnny and Moses standing by the bed, deep in conversation. Moses has his elephant under his arm and is holding Johnny’s nightlight in his hand. His other hand is clutching Johnny’s. The sight, at any other time, might have melted her heart. Right now, she just wants to get them back to bed before they properly wake up.
“Boys.” They both jump when she speaks. “It’s too early. Go back to bed.”
“But I heared Santa on the roof,” Moses confides, in a whisper. “I fink he’s ‘livered the toys.”
“It’s still too early,” she murmurs. “Go back to bed for a bit, yeah?”

Day twenty five! Presents under the tree.
Sorry guys, I sort of failed at the advent thing, but I still wanted to write this one because I’ve had it in my head since the beginning so here you go, hope you enjoy!
Part IV of ‘Vanessa is going to kill Charity before the season is over’. In which Charity turns Christmas into a game of pass the bloody parcel with only one contestant.
Charity drags her down to the floor, the pair of them falling beneath the tree like they’re seven and sneaking a peek at their presents before morning. She reaches right to the back of the pile and roots around until she finds a large, misshapen parcel that looks like it contains a pile of lumpy socks. “How about this one, babe?”
Vanessa looks uncertain, she scrunches her nose a little as she takes it, looking at Charity like she’s expecting it to explode over her lap. Typically, it’s wrapped so thickly in tape it’s going to take her right up until next Christmas to get through it, but her girlfriend is looking at her like they’re leaving out cookies for Santa. Vanessa picks until the tiniest fraction of tape comes away and she can get ahold of it and peel and finally pull the paper away to find- there’s another layer.
“Charity.”
“Come on,babe, it’s a special one. Open it.”
She rolls her eyes but peels back the next layer. And the one after that. The one after. Next. “Charity-” she protests but she bounces where she’s sat, smiling almost shyly, even though Charity doesn’t do shy. She didn’t do sadness or vulnerability either until Vanessa. There were a lot of things she didn’t do until her. A lot of things Vanessa didn’t either.
It’s a lot smaller now, anyway, She must almost be there. There’s something hard, a sharp edge poking through the paper. It feels like a book. She pulls back the last layer of paper at last, the mountain that’s built up tumbling around her (it’s going to take so long to clean up- because of the tape there are tiny scraps embedded into the carpet).
It is a book. Goat Rearing from Home. “It’s, erm-” Maybe if she opens it she can feign interest while she thinks of something to say. She opens it into her lap and she stares. And goes on staring. Then blinks, but it’s still there. The ring nestled among the carved out pages.
She looks up suddenly, tinsel brushing the top of her head. Charity is looking right back at her, nibbling at her lip and looking as nervous as Vanessa has ever seen her.
“So, will you? Marry me, I mean.” She grins a little sheepishly, but Vanesssa can only stare and the smile slips from Charity’s face. “Right, okay, let’s just forget I asked then, okay? It’s fine I can return the ring and-”
“What? Charity, no! Of course-” The words spill out of her and she stops because she can barely breathe, but her own smile is spread so wide her jaw aches. “Of course I’ll marry you. Here, now, next year, in Vagas- wherever. We could even-”
But Charity, her financee, stops her with a kiss and she feels like the lights on the Christmas tree are burning right inside her, sparkling and warm and bright.

Leyla: *Glances at Vanessa, asleep on the couch, wearing fluffy toy reindeer antlers and a Christmas jumper, while Charity, who wears a matching jumper, is snoring in her arms* Yes, and it’s more visible than ever.
fic: The Return To Innocence (the return to yourself) Charity/Vanessa
It’s another teen AU. I’m sorry. Vanessa comes home for Christmas after her first term at university. That’s basically it. You know the story: feelings, angst, most of it unnecessary…
This isn’t so much a Christmas gift as a feels!vomit. But it’s really the only way I can say thank you. :)
Happy Christmas?
