Hail to you, O Wesir,
First born son of Nut and Geb
Who illuminates the sky!
Great Lord of the Duat,
Your children come forth now
To sing your praises and worship you on your day!
O Sah, Lord of the Horizon,
Your children bring to you:
A thousands loaves of bread,
A thousand jars of beer,
A thousand offerings for you and your ka!
May you be satisfied! May you rejoice!
"Oh... You love Zeus?... But didn't he-"
An ear piercing screech is the last thing you hear as I tear the skin from my body, revealing that im the eagle come to eat your liver.
In the same vein:
"Oh you worship Hades? He's the best husband of all the gree-"
I wail like a soul lost to the river styx, shedding my mortal form and revealing myself as one of the furies and shredding your mortal coil.
Similarly:
"You're a devotee of Hera? But she's so cruel and jealous and wrathful and she..."
*banshee shriek heralding your demise*
I think so many people forget making the world a better place isn’t just about having all the ‘correct’ sociopolitical opinions and beliefs and knowing all the theory it’s also hugely about actually being a good person… everyday acts of kindness and empathy, going out of your way to help others, small moments of connection in a cold world, loving thy neighbour all that
Your beliefs die with you, doing nothing for the world on their own. Actions are what count. What will you do with your morals? That is what will live on when you are gone.
NASA just dropped the closest image ever taken of Jupiter.
(ง'̀-'́)ง I drew lord Ares !!!
Hot take but you can’t learn about paganism without also learning about white supremacy and how it uses pagan religions to push hate group agendas all over the world today. If you don’t learn about the connections between the two and how it operates, your ignorance enables white supremacists to keep on doing it and using it to recruit others. People in our community who do nothing and stay silent are literally a part of the problem, there is no opting out whatsoever. Divorcing the two makes the issue repeat itself over and over and over again.
It’s not hard to include this in your research and stay aware. It’s the bare minimum.
Please do NOT describe yourself as "Hellenic," when you tell people you worship the Greek gods. Please say Hellenic Polytheist instead. Hellenic means Greek, and describing yourself as just Hellenic is no different than saying you are ethnically Greek.
This goes for tags like "Hellenic community," "Hellenic revivalism," or "Hellenic reconstructionism," btw 🫠
Just use "Helpol community," "revivalist Helpol," and "reconstructionist Helpol."
Reblogging for @olympianbutch 's additions!
Using "helpol" is a great substitution if you don't want to type "Hellenic Polytheist" every time because we have to be more mindful to respectfully differentiate ourselves and not accidentally encroach on the modern Greek culture!
It's okay to worship the Greek gods but it's not okay to steal and appropriate a word they use to identify each other!
"la venida de cristo" (the cumming of christ)
paintings by fabián chairez (mexico, born 1987) also available as a postcard set
his exhibition in mexico city is currently being targeted by extremist religious groups and christian groups are trying to sue him (X) for his work so i thought i would show all of tumblr
Praise Aphrodite, a goddess so much cooler and more interesting than her pop-culture portrayals would suggest
I love this!
Love and War 💞❤️🔥🕊️
Happy valentines everyone!🥰 Februarys illustration is of Ares and Aphrodite looking very flirty and in love, or at least some form of it.
hi! i was interested in a topic and i realized you were probably one of the better people to ask. what resources would you recommend for studying the impact of christianity on sex and sexuality?
the oxford handbook of theology, sexuality, and gender is invaluable, but i'm unsure if there has been a new edition since 2014.
historical texts: if you are an absolute beginner, the chapter sexuality in christian traditions by adrian thatcher, in the cambridge world history of sexualities: volume ii is a good, solid overview. additionally: contextualizing gender in early christian discourse by caroline stichele and todd penner. christianity and sexuality in the early modern world by merry wiesner-hanks, sexual desire and love: origins and history of the christian ethic of sexuality and marriage by erich fuchs.
critical + liberation theology: god, sexuality and the self by sarah coakley, touching our strength by carter heyward, indecent theology by marcella althaus-reid, why women need the goddess by carol christ, sexuality and the black church: a womanist perspetive by kelly b douglas, enfleshing freedom: body, race, and being by m. shawn copeland, postcolonial imagination and feminist theology by kwok pui-lan, queering christ: beyond act up by robert e. goss, the good news of the body edited by lisa isherwood, theology and sexuality by susanna cornwall, queer theologies: the basics by chris greenough, our lives: a womanist queer theology by pamela r lightsey.
critical issues in sexuality: the making of biblical womanhood by beth allision barr, #churchtoo: how purity culture upholds abuse and how to find healing by emily joy allison, the cry of tamar by pamela cooper-white (NB: don't know why google books doesn't have the most recent second edition), jesus and john wayne by kristin du mez, catholic sexual theology and adolescent girls by doris m kieser, black gay british christian queer by jarel-robinson brown.
additionally, am extremely excited about the release of lower than the angels by diarmaid macculloch in april: i would keep an eye out for its release and try to read it if you can, as i suspect it's going to be an excellent, critical historical overview.
there are, of course, gaps in my recs, but everything i recommend here i consider essentially introductory. you'll find some of this work is focused more on gender, but we cannot discuss sexuality without also discussing gender; additionally, the majority of non-white theologies (womanist, east asian, indigenous) are engaging with gender rather than sexuality at this point in their respective developments.
