Welcome to @variorientedcultureis! This blog is inspired by @aro-culture-is @ace-culture-is @mspec-culture-is @queercutlureis and other similar blogs (check them out if you so desire).

"Varioriented" refers to anyone who has "mismatched" attractions. It can often refer to acespec and arospec people, but one can also be homoromantic bisexual, for example.

This is a submission based blog, so please send in asks and submissions!

I am your mod, Capella! My main is @redeyye. I'm not the original creator, but she's left this blog for other things, at least for now (and I wish her great luck on all of her endeavors!!). I try to leave big things how she had them - it would feel wrong to change stuff like the DNI - but if there's ever a problem here, I accept full responsibility.

I wanted to create a term for something I've seen multiple people describe experiencing, because it doesn't have a specific term of it's own. Presenting, Fractu-, or Fractoriented

Fractoriented describes individuals who experience multiple simultaneous orientations in the same form of attraction. Specific form of attraction is denoted with the Fractu- prefix and a given suffix (Fractusexual, fracturomantic, fractuplatonic, fractusensual, fractuaesthetic, etc.) Fractoriented people have different experiences with their attraction for different genders, and are usually aspec in regards to at least one of them, potentially all. It is as if their orientation is fractured, which is where the term gets its name. Fractoriented people may use contradictory labels, if they choose to label their individual fractal orientations instead of choosing only a collective label.

Examples of Fractoriented:

- Being allosexual when it comes to women, but requiring a deeper emotional bond with men before any attraction is formed (demisexual)

- Recipromantic (attraction only forms after someone expresses attraction to you first) when it comes to nonbinary people, and frayromantic (romantic attraction fades after an emotional bond is formed) when it comes to binary people

- Abro people who are constantly attracted to 1 or more gender(s) and feel like they have a static orientation alongside their abrosexuality for other gender(s)

Examples of things that are NOT fractoriented

- Abro-orientation itself (not all abro experiences would be quite what I'm trying to describe here)

- A multigender person who conceptualizes their gendered attractions as separate orientations

- Using multiple orientation labels because they all fit you

- Split attraction

All of the above are valid experiences and I have no issues with them, they are just not what fractoriented is meant to describe.

The fractoriented flag also functions as the fractusexual flag, fractoromantic flag, and so on.

The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.

It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 40,000 responses last year.

Didn’t really like how every ally flag just had the straight flag as the background, since queer ppl can very much be allies to other queer ppl, so:

I made some new ally flags! Instead of the straight flag bg, it’s the flag of the opposite (ex: trans ally has the cisgender flag, neopronouns ally has the tradpronouns flag, asexual ally has the allosexual flag, etc) :3
