the absolute devastating intimacy of a forehead rest. when you are both just so tired from existing in a world that demands you to be a rigid, functional individual, and you finally collapse into each other and just lean your forehead against theirs, or against their shoulder. it’s the physical equivalent of dropping your shields. it’s saying i am entirely heavy right now, and i am trusting you to bear a piece of that weight. and the most beautiful part is that the other person doesn’t even flinch. they just adjust their stance, tuck you a little closer, and absorb the impact. we were designed to divide the burden of being alive.

Map question!! Do you know what area of the forest gets burnt? It'd be neat to see the fire drawn out on the map and get a sense of where it was and how much they actually managed to burn
It's actually pretty easy to tell when you put the creator map next to the original map!
Abolish may not have burnt the whole forest down, but he DID make traveling between Town and the Castle inconvenient for higher-level vampires, since they no longer had decent cover anywhere near the path.
It's possible that the big on the right was clear-cut by someone, but the forest is a lot denser than these maps make it look. I'm more inclined to believe the fire spread there unless we have evidence otherwise.
For example, I originally thought that the area around Ren's house may have already been somewhat cleared previously, since, y'know, his house is there, but it turns out Abolish gives before and after photos in his video showing that area burning down as well:
It's worth noting that the map is BIG. It doesn't look like a whole lot on an actual map, but when you're actually loading it in-game it feels much emptier. He did quite a lot of damage to the environment lmao.

By the nature of their upbringing, Cleo was not familiar with traditional family dynamics. They had their mother who was... well, Cleo could admit she was perhaps not the archetypal maternal figure, but she did go by the title. Even so, Cleo was fairly sure that what they felt towards Morcant’s human ward was not parental affection.
Siblings, maybe?
But human siblings didn't usually have 60 years between them, which kinda left an aunt-nephew bond, and Cleo was nobody's aunt.
All that really mattered was that they were family, in that kinda nebulously fucking weird way that overlapping vampire covens tended to be. Cleo's mother was good friends with Abolish's... whatever Morcant was, and that worked for them. They didn't need to put a label on it, because everyone who knew them, knew what the connection was.
Or, at least, that was how it had been.
"How do you two know each other?"
The other newcomers to Oakhurst had watched the unexpected reunion with the kind of blatent curiosity that could be expected for an eighty-something pensioner and a maybe-butler being on easy speaking terms.
"We're family," Cleo said, because the best way to lie was to tell a kind of truth.
"Distantly related, or...?" fished one of the strangers.
"Cousins," Cleo supplied. Once you got past the inner ring of familiarity, pretty much every relative was a cousin of some distinction. "Myself on my mother's side, and Abolish..."
She faltered, because Morcant hadn't so much adopted Abolish as acquired him, but she suspected that was the kind of answer that didn't fly well with mortals.
one of my favorite things to do in crossfangs-- and something im doing liberally with separation anxiety au-- is showing what abolish and scott think about their relationship and then juxtaposing that with what others think of their relationship. sometimes everyone's on the same page-- its weird and they need to kill each other about it. but in a rose by any other name and separation anxiety au, they are not on the same page. in fact, i would go so far as to say they are not even in the same book.
see, in a rose by any other name, abolish, scott, and shelby see their relationship as a sweet whirlwind romance, vaguely enemies-to-lovers, fairytale type of relationship. Cleo and Legs-- and the rest of town, for that matter-- see their relationship as obsessive, codependent, and extremely unhealthy. no one here is exactly correct, but no one's really wrong, either.
in separation anxiety au, abolish and scott see their relationship differently. abolish was asleep for 600 years and then when he woke up scott suddenly has separation anxiety and is weirdly possessive over him?? and like, something really strange is that that's absolutely doing it for him, which is wildly confusing. Scott, meanwhile, is completely adamant that he is being Perfectly Normal. no im not in love with my butler who i havent been able to speak to for 600 years why would you say that? no i just got lonely. lonliness isnt a crime, is it?
and that's not even touching on what the rest of town thinks of it. cleo and legs see this as something they need to rescue abolish from. apo is trying really really hard not to care-- she just has too much on her mind right now and she does not have time to give a shit about the bullshit those two have going on. owen sees it as a liability-- abolish could very well be an asset, but if something happened to him, scott would instantly become a Problem. he cant exactly get rid of abolish, but he knows that scott would turncoat if abolish just asked nicely, so he's got himself in a bit of a pickle. shelby and m see these two as the employees of the month at the yaoi factory. i could go on.
basically these two are driving me nuts and i want them both dead xoxo
