Working Class Hero (Cover)-VZ- Shahreyar Varzgani
I always imagined how drawing in the digital world would be and I always got fascinated by the lines that the digital world provided. Though it makes our work much easier, but on the other hand it also expands the scope of giving what the previous decades couldn’t. Take for instance, what apple did when they made ‘toy- story’. It was a revolution for the first time and it totally showed that the horizons of imagination can become totally different from what the normal path the world opted.
Similar was my case here, I draw and sketch things with doodles most of the time in classes that didn’t interest me much and of which I know that they won’t even help in the real world much, sitting in one of the best classes there, alone and pondering over the real world by moving the hands over the blank pages of my sketchbook, doodling things that can never happen in real world, sometimes coming up with abstract designs and most of the time with shapes that takes the thoughts very deep if one can understand them.
This is one of my first digital drawing that I completed almost a week ago in just four to five hours maximum. The color I chose was restricted to two to three colors, though I wanted to add more, but too many on first try would make things more complicated and won’t make the work get finished in time with appropriate quality. So, I chose black which is a strong color and along with that blue to give a cool effect to the background and balance the black color above.
Now the most fascinating thing about working digitally is that you can create layers in your project (by project I mean the artwork) and make amendments to it whenever you feel like there is a need of some addition in the work and see whether how it would look if put. If not looking good then it can be removed really easily without harming the project entirely. Same was with the one I have done. My work was related more to strokes so I was supposed to be careful with the strength of lines and the length, not to exceed the required limit.
Most of the cross hatchings needs a visual experience and practice to see how much strokes a specific area in a project requires because too much of it would create more depth and imbalances the project, diverting the focus whereas less number of strokes would leave the project shallow, making it less interesting. So, a right amount and a balanced number of strokes are necessary to keep the project flowing softly and keep the depth as much as needed. All these comes with experience and practice. Then, after doing all the crosshatching of the face and the outlining the front picture, I first decided to give a quick blow to the background and just with the help of soft brush, I would make a blue background but suddenly it came to me that along with that let’s give it some more work and when the front involves innumerable lines, the background should also contain lines and these lines should convey meaning. Therefore, in making and moving of hands, it brought in a meaning in itself. Just like in the old paintings, the canvas contains halos behind individuals to mark prominence, therefore after filling the background with lines, it gave an appearance of halo and it is prominent enough to be noted in an abstract and popular way and I loved it.
