the high school that i used to go to, and that my little sister just graduated from, just got an article in the free press for completely and utterly failing to protect their students from antisemitism. the comments (as of when i read the article) were largely blaming the affected students and their parents for not "doing enough" to fight. because let's blame the victims, instead of:
the new attorney general, who decided to drop all investigation of antisemitism in the school district (the previous one, though a republican, was very harsh on antisemitism and i gladly voted for his reelection for that reason. easiest vote i cast in that election by far.)
the school faculty and teachers, who repeatedly covered for antisemitic students. they also banned the use of cell phones in schools, and stated that if students recorded harassment they were receiving that the victim would also get in trouble for having a phone.
the parents of the antisemitic students, who also covered for their children and claimed they were just expressing their political opinions.
or maybe... the antisemitic students themselves? these are high schoolers. they aren't little kids. they know exactly what they're doing but they also know there won't be any consequences.
i watched my parents and other jewish parents fight tooth and nail to address this problem. i watched the kids involved realize that the school district that has the back of every minority group but them. it's absurd to blame anyone but the actual perpetrators.
(sidenote: so fucking proud of my sister for responding to antisemitic harassment by starting a jewish student union and standing up for herself and her friends. i respect that so much and i know im not tough enough to deal with all that.)
