right. vaughn had already forgotten the rants he had listened to some years ago. it took him a moment to decide how to respond. “ what ? really ? are you sure ? it just takes a while to break the ice with her. ” his palms felt sweaty. “ i was honestly just thinking about dinner. i can’t say i know layla too well and at this point it’s becoming a bit awkward. i feel like i should know barbie’s best friends. ” he knew omari and natasja... and he knew how little they liked him. with layla he had a chance !

“Why are you still so reluctant?” Vaughn was a good person but that didn’t mean he should have had unconditional understanding for their father. “This has been going on for so long. vaughn’s brows shot up and for a long and silent moment he stared at his so called father. “ that’s--- you know what happened there. you can’t judge me for what happened with dani. ” considering how arthur had played in a role in the fallout, vaughn couldn’t believe he would bring it up so lightly.

it was out of respect for catherine that he didn’t light a cigarette right then to alleviate the disjointed ache that had settled in his marrow. the idea of helping either side proved to be a bane for his curdled blood and a gift to the parts of him that wished to see the rest of the isles burn for its pride. “i have to agree with you,” he nodded. “you can make the case that scotland is aiding the right leader for the country. there’s no better time to act.” his elbow rested on the arm of the chair, thumb rubbing the side of his finger as he expressed, quite plainly, “people are divided, and the hold that my father and lady de marquis have on their allies are taut enough to snap, given the times, and with the right amount of pressure. if you make it quite obvious that the country is in this state because of inefficient leadership, then perhaps they’d rally more towards someone more…efficient. it has to be a two-pronged attack against our common enemy.” ( @vaughn-a ; @vntcniv ; @catherinestuart )

“ now i... i don’t care what happens to him. ” vaughn had decided that just two weeks ago. “ but i don’t know if we should, ah, ‘fight violence with violence’. it’s a bit extreme, no ? ” the civil war had been relatively peaceful so fear. precise and calculated moves that had caused minimal casualties. art’s words made the gears in vaughn’s head turn. if there had been something he had been very sure of, it had been the fact that art truly, deeply, 100% wanted the throne for himself. the past year in mexico might have changed his mind but vaughn was unable to read between the lines. what he knew to be true warred against what he felt like art was saying. “ the right leader in this scenario would be... toni ? ” ( @catherinestuart, @arturcii, @vntcniv )

there was no way to describe the relief that washed over him when he saw the windows of the resort in front of him. he had lost the track of time walking through the forest. he had reached a road much earlier than he had found the resort — he must have ran too far in the west when he had made his escape. the moment he saw the crowd in the reception hall, he realized not too many people had made it back. “ excuse me, ” he stopped the first person he saw. “ is barbie somewhere ? where is she ? are toni and nat here ? where– who are not here ? ”

On the bright side, she chose their guide as her hiking buddy so Stefania did not need to worry as much. "I wish I still had that much energy.”, she said upon returning her attention to the peroson next to her. “Do you hike often?”

“ but they’ve been together for two years. ” it made no sense. his confusion was etched on his face. they had seemed so happy too and it wasn’t as if barbie had ever said anything to him that would have made him think that something was off with the couple. “ i’ll keep my eyes peeled, promise. ” controlling dani’s perception of the situation was pretty much impossible, what he wanted to make sure was that he knew that vaughn wasn’t about to up and disappear from his life. the afternoons and evenings he got to spend with the kids helped vaughn to feel less anxious about the situation. “ if sara doesn’t mind... i haven’t been outside all day, a walk wouldn’t hurt. ”

- THE SITUATION he described was one that happened on a daily basis, nothing new on one toddler not letting the other sleep when they were awake. it was still a shocker how he got all three down before their usual bed time but that was a good thing. ‘ it’s actually better that they do. nat moved in with us today, things are still getting moved around. ’ at least at vaughn’s they wouldn’t have all the distraction. she gave him a weak smile and a hand squeeze. ‘ he has been a bit stubborn lately. i think we need to sit down and have a chat with him, kids tend to believe that they’re at fault when something’s going on with their parents. ’

“ nat’s moved in ? ” vaughn asked, brows rising on his forehead. “ whoa. it’s like... i don’t know, you have a house full of stray cats now. ” it should have bothered him more perhaps, that omari and natasja were sharing the space with barbie but something about the equation made sense in a weird and quirky way. certain friendships were impossible to infiltrate. “ ah... i wouldn’t worry about tonight too much. it’s just his hotheadedness. ” or perhaps plain immaturity. he was still a boy. “ the only real way to solve a puzzle is to first separate the piece by colour and then– ” he looked at barbie, and cleared his throat. “ you know if it ever gets too busy or stuffy in your suite, you can come here for some space. i’d like it. very much. ”
