this isnt really a fair comparison

animators in japan are often quite literally killing themselves. its so hard to animate so much detail and have it be so fluid that it’s not all that uncommon for them to literally work themselves to death. the anime industry is looking at a shortage of animators because the ones that are currently in it are really only there for the love of the job, and potential future animators are horrified at the working conditions.

im not ok with picking on american cartoons for having a simplistic style when animators everywhere are so overworked and underpaid, and this will undoubtedly make their lives a little easier. and im especially not ok with the comparison to anime when those animators go through hell. our standard shouldn’t be something that harms people, if we have to sacrifice detail so people can actually have a less stressful environment and not as much harm to their health i am all for it.

There’s also the fact that they picked two totally different shows in terms of tone, genre and purpose. Comparing the animation side by side doesn’t make sense because they’re intended to do different things.

It’s like comparing garden shears and a shovel. Sure they’re both used in the garden and may even be made of similar materials, but they’re intended for totally different kinds of work and you wouldn’t judge shears on their ability to dig a hole.

there’s also differences in animation techniques between the two countries that undoubtedly impact this…. I love anime that is full of beautiful fluid detail, I truly do… but this is an unfair comparison on every level

CAPTION: I get lots of messages asking for advice on * COMING OUT * But honestly… I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to give reckless advice that could possibly endanger someone, like (”Always follow your heart!”). There are so many factors to consider, like: Will coming out make me a target at school? Will coming out put me in danger at home? Will my family/friends understand? Will I be welcomed in my own community? Will I stay in the closet forever? Is it worth it? I can’t answer that for you. 

It’s also important to know that coming out is an unending process. Strangers, distant family, new friends, coworkers, crushes… every decision to share or not to share becomes a calculated gamble. Please know there is no shame in choosing not to come out. Your safety and well-being comes first. Your identity is still true whether anybody knows about it or not. I wish I could keep you all safe.
