he listened carefully for a moment for any sounds of anyone moving around in their home. his mom had fallen asleep after dinner–around seven o’clock to be exact–and she was on so many meds that he knew she wouldn’t be waking up until noon the next day. both of his sisters were out with friends, and both had his number on speed dial in case they needed him for anything. and his brother’s faint snoring could be heard drifting down the halls. she had nothing to apologize for. “ don’t worry, he’s a heavy sleeper. ” he flinched in pretend pain as her hand made contact with his shoulder. “ hey, be careful. i need this shoulder to hunt. i like your idea. how about 11:11 in the afternoon? it’s early enough so that i won’t be putting anyone to bed, but late enough that i’ll be awake, even if sleep in. and that way, you don’t have to come barging into my home, scaring me half to death like someone’s died. sound like a plan? ” his words would sound harsh to anyone else, but he knew that she would take them in the manner he meant them to be taken in. he cared about her, he truly did, and that’s why he felt he could joke with her the way he did.

the last thing phoebe wanted was to wake up elijah, or his mom for that matter, listening as he did to hear for any movement. “yeah, he gets that from you.” she added, rolling her eyes. “please, you aren’t going soft on me, are you? because if so, i might need to find a new hunting partner. specific, you better keep up with it, because if 11:12 rolls around, i’m jumping through the window next time. you’re lucky i didn’t have any swords drawn this time, but you won’t be so lucky every time. maybe i’ll succeed in scaring you completely to death.” she shrugged, laughing it off. “besides, it’s not like you haven’t come barging into my place before. i think we’re just making it even all around.”

“don’t worry about me, miss. i can take perfect care of myself.” expressed the vampire, she was way too old to worry about being accompanied by someone while on a hunt. she felt more than safe on her own.

phoebe felt her eyes narrow as she caught the sight of the vampire, her back straighter as the hunter instincts kicked in. “i wouldn’t be too sure, you never know what you’re going to run into around here.”

her head ACHED . having stayed up the entire night before looking through census papers of the town , “ i’m saying , this isn’t the first time some of these people have made a home in forks . ” she said , spitting out the word people like it burned her .

phoebe tried to wrap her mind around what she was saying, brow furrowing as she put it together. “what vampire is stupid enough to try and make a home in the same town?” she replied, fighting between amusement and disgust.

“seriously, don’t worry about it. i remember being in your same situation. due dates are hell.” phoebe said, smiling as she handed off the last of her books. “it’s no problem, i don’t mind.” she said, standing up as they finished, throwing her hair out of her face. “what’s the paper on?”

as he heard the front door open, he ran from his brother’s room to make his way to the entry hall. he recognized the voice immediately as phoebe’s, and he didn’t want her to worry (or wake up his brother, who he had just gotten to fall asleep). “ pheeb?! ” he asked, searching through rooms in his own house until they finally stumbled into each other. “ pheeb, i’m sorry, i’m sorry, i’m okay, i’m fine! i was putting elijah to bed, you have nothing to worry about, my little brother didn’t, like, bite me or anything, i’m good, i’m good. we’re all good. ”

the relief that washed over phoebe was palatable, the panic in her chest subsided and she rolled back on her heels as he explained himself. “shit sorry--” she said, hoping she didn’t wake his brother up, her voice dropping down to a loud whisper. “still, seriously, you couldn’t at least text me you’re alive?” the back of her hand slapping against his shoulder, before folding across her chest. “i feel like we need a constant check in time lately. i’ve seen at least a dozen new red eyes today.”

“rod! rodolphus!” phoebe yelled as she threw the door open to his home. she hadn’t gotten an answer to any of her calls or texts in hours, and in the world that they inhabited, that worried her. she knew she could have knocked, could have waited for him to answer but phoebe didn’t have time for that. at least, she didn’t feel like she did. “i swear, if you don’t stop ignoring my calls i’m going to throw shit at you!” she continued as she let herself in, starting to walk from room to room until she spotted him, calling his name all the while. “do i need to get a tracking chip on you, damn!” || @extramcndane || ♥’d starter call

ramona was rushing herself when she bumped into someone, causing her to drop her books. she knelt down to pick them up before looking up to face the other. “i’m so sorry. i didn’t see you there.” expressed the gifted human, offering a weak smile to the other, hoping they wouldn’t be mad at her.

phoebe stumbled as the younger girl bumped into her, catching herself with no problem. she looked towards the girl, with a shaking of her head. “don’t worry about it. it’s fine.” she reassured her. “here, let me help.” phoebe bent down to start handing off the books to her.
