This stream is already so good I can’t-
Sorry to be a bother but how do you make those GORGEOUS mother 2 like backgrounds and that crt filter you have (ps the starwalker drawing you made is peak )
I’m very sorry for the late reply to this- I don’t really check my Tumblr inbox enough at all, but for my backgrounds I make a set of colors specifically for the background that I like to blend together, I take the primary color of that set and I draw a basic outline for the pattern I’d like and then use the outline tool over and over with each individual color on that outline to fill out the background
The CRT filter I use for some of my art is https://0hz.ru/ntscqt/ . Thank you for the compliment! That Starwalker is still one of my favorites of mine
your work is so constantly experimental and awesomesauce. i still dont understand how you pick colors sometimes (more specifically for the pieces that use transparent brushes instead of typical antialiasing and shading over a generally flat sprite), i was wondering what exactly do you do to reach those "conclusions", not exactly a step-by-step tutorial, but more like, "what goes through your mind as youre picking those colors", what makes you realise they work in the context you use them in, etc.
ive always been way too indulged in having a straightforward shading practice like "theres 3 colors that transition between the outline and the lightest color, heres some other colors i use if theyre reflecting off something else", so its just neat to imagine what goes through someone's mind when theres like, random blips of some unrelated color in the mix in a way that almost gives it texture.
Thank you so much! When I first started drawing this way awhile ago, I always started with pretty simple palettes where the colors blend pretty naturally (using a lot of the same colors at different shades so they blended), but would edit my palette a lot as the process went on and played with colors until I’m happy with it. It’s just fun to experiment with different colors and see which ones blend well together- I think it’s also important to reference a lot of old renders or just renders for whatever style you’re going for, try and zoom in and study the way colors interact and overtime you’ll get it down more and put your own twist on it. Hopefully this helps, I’m really bad with art terminology hahaha
