more on boris also being a freak: in some of my (unpublished) fic i’ve been playing with the concept that what theo describes as a sort of instant connection with boris was wayyyy more manufactured than he realizes. a lot of boris’ character revolves around him (subconsciously or otherwise) seeking out relationships based on reciprocity and survival. there’s a scene in badr al-dine where theo gets mad at boris for being too friendly/indulgent with larry and boris is like well what else am i supposed to do when he’s providing for me? i think if you frame boris’ actions based on what he thinks will endear him to other people he becomes suchhh a complicated and weird character <3 like suddenly the implication of their convo at the restaurant becomes “i know we used to have sex but i only did it because you were my only option and also you had a big fat obvious crush on me and i was living with you for free and sleeping in your bed every night so it seemed fair if not inevitable” trulyyyy he and theo are matched in terms of fucked up social skills. but because boris’ coping mechanism is to be charming and funny he actually gets laid. anyway
