There is a such thing as a vegetarian vampire.

Helena Louise Locke, vampire, Helena, a vegetarian vampire for nearly ten years now.  I am a driven woman and I don't see my vampirism as something that gets in my way of leading a normal life. Twin sister to Selena Cassandra Locke. I am also a mother figure to my only progeny Jessica, if you mess with her, you are messing with me.

“My kind? You mean someone else, not I.” She said.“Because I only feel the monsters should be eliminated. Those who kill for pleasure, body after body after body. Like chain smoking.” Evie said. “You don’t deserve to die. Not by a hunter or anything. You’ve done nothing to this world but try and be good. So why kill off an innocent being?”

“But you are still a hunter...I...” she then took a shaky breath “I can understand where you are coming from when you speak that way, the monsters do take things too far” she admitted, the blonde pushing hair from her face “I am glad you think such a way”

acorruptedheart:“I won’t lie to you, but yes.” She sighed. “But I don’t want to kill you. It was never my intention.” She said quietly. “I’m not like the others.” She said quietly. Of course she was just trying to play Helena, and get her close to her, maybe too close, so she could find out where her maker was.

“Your kind killed my progeny, my only true friend in this world “Helena said quietly, looking at her with big sad blue eyes. “How are you not like others?” she wondered, a little more on edge now, she had been hurt too many times.

Evie sighed. “Because I hate your kind. Because I thought all of you were nothing more than killing machines, slaughtering innocent people. But I guess I was wrong.” She said giving Helena a weak smile.

Helena nodded and sat down “You’re one of them, aren’t you?” she asked, swallowing thickly, her progeny had been killed by hunters, her sister had fled and now she was back with the Maker she despised.

Evie cleared her throat. “Um yes I think so.” She said quietly seeing as Helena not a threat to her anymore. “Oh.. well you might not be a monster but I am.” She said softly and sighed looking to Helena with soft eyes.

Helena raised an eyebrow at the womans comment “How can you be a monster?” she asked warily, yet for some reason found comfort in the womans soft eyes.

Evie raised her brow and sat up straight, more interest in this vampire than she thought. “You are truly different from the others.” She said slowly standing up. “So different and unique. I think more of your kind should be like you.” She said with a sweet smile.

Helena looked at the other in confusion when she began to stand up, the blonde surprised by the others words “I really am?” she wondered, then nodding “I agree...Then we wouldn’t be seen as such monsters...Sure I’m weaker than most, I can lose my mind every so often...But It’s better.”

Sabine smiled and patted Helena on the arm. “I can’t imagine. I don’t have any progeny of my own but I hope to, some day.” She tried to think about what she would do if hunters were to take away someone she turned. Even though she hadn’t even found that person yet, it was painful. 

“I’m sure you will do just fine should the day ever comes” Helena said gently, offering the vampire a smile, tilting her head at her as she thought about Jessica for a moment longer.

“Oh, I’m so sorry,” Sabine said, genuinely troubled. She stopped Helena and clasped both her hands. “It’s awful when young ones are taken. I didn’t mean to upset you.” She took a handkerchief out of her pocket and offered it to the other vampire. 

“Oh you don’t have to be sorry, it’s something that I have come to terms with...It’s only natural to talk about such a thing, so definitely no need for any kind of apology I assure you” Helena reassured, yet took the handkerchief when it was offered to her.

Sabine put her hand on Helena’s arm in a sisterly gesture. “Then we are in perfect agreement about that. Too many these days treat it too casually. In my view, the maker-progeny relationship is probably the greatest benefit of being a vampire,” she said. “I am sorry to hear about your loss. Was she a young one?”

Helena nodded, the womans words made Helena think...She hadn’t considered the bond she used to share with Eric once upon a time, but it had been important indeed. “It’s something I do miss, just being able to feel another so deeply, feeling their love, fear...Everything.” she then cleared her throat “She was indeed.”

“It’s true! Politics in any species is a terrible distraction,” she said. She smiled at the opportunity to talk about Kathryn. “She was a wonderful woman. She rescued me from a very unhappy existence and gave me the world. We spent our time together traveling. The loss of her is like a hole in my heart.”

“And yet for some reason we all crave it” Helena chuckled softly, feeling herself actually beginning to smile “That sounds like the most perfect example of a Maker and Progeny. I had tried to be that for my own girl until she was taken from me by hunters....I feel such a connection should be treated sensitively and be one that makes both happy.” she said with a fond memory of Jessica.

“It’s getting involved in vampire politics,” Sabine declared. “It takes up so much time, distracts a vampire from doing what they ought to be doing: building their fortune and enjoying themselves. That’s what my maker used to say, and frankly, I have to agree.”

“That could be true indeed...” Helena nodded “Then again, it is the same with any creature that gets themselves involved with politics” The blonde murmured, she’d seen it corrupt humans enough afterall. “Your Maker sounds like someone i would have enjoyed”

“He should really leverage that real estate,” Sabine murmured. Her maker, Kathryn, had made her fortune through decades of investing. Time had allowed her to become shrewd and practiced with how she managed her money, and she’d taught her skills to Sabine. “He could rent it to humans for weddings. Mortals getting married is an enormous industry, and they love castles.”

“I agree, but you know that Eric is set in his ways with such things...I know he owns property elsewhere. he is just extremely secretive” she murmured, nodding along with the vampire she made suggestions for the properties “I will definitely try and press him with the idea.”

“I inherited a place in Manhattan from my maker,” Sabine answered. “It hasn’t been lived in for decades, so I’m on a mission to spruce it up. Do you know any good contractors?”

“How lovely, all I shall inherit is a dusty castle in Sweden and this dump should Eric ever get himself killed...” Helena sighed, but she smirked “I feel I have a couple in mind. I can get you those numbers easily”

Sabine arched an eyebrow. “Really? Tut, tut, Eric. Bad sheriff,” she mused humorously. She really didn’t care how Eric did his job, she just liked to tease her uncle, who she thought could use a few more laughs in his life. 

“They say it is those with power who are most corrupt...” Helena replied “So, where are you staying? Locally I imagine?” she wondered, not really wanting to admit to living in a coffin the basement of a run down club.

“A few times, many years ago,” Sabine said with a shrug. “I see the decor has not changed. Eric has an interesting style, but I’ll admit it fits well with his image. It must be quite rattling for a recalcitrant vampire to find themselves here.”

“I suppose someone gets stuck in their ways and by ways I mean decor” Helena chuckled, looking around “Well, rattling or at times the right place to be...I’ve not seen too much law here as of late, or course bar the queens stepping in now and then” she admitted.

Sabine couldn’t imagine “getting tired” of Kathryn. They had been her lover, her sister, her mother, her savior. Being released by her would have been worse than losing her to the true death. It would have killed Sabine.

“Me? Oh, Eric is not my maker. He’s sort of, I guess, an uncle,” she said with a smile. 

Helena had always felt out of sorts with Eric, she knew deep down that he had always loved Selena more than her, she had just been a bonus to a sisterly package. Helena had always tried to give her own progeny the love she’d wanted, but Jessica had only ended up dead. The blonde was scarred, now she felt that she was a broken husk, pathetic and weak....Even more so without actual blood in her diet, the killing and pain was all too much. She felt bad that she was still babysitting her sisters progeny Eve. When Sabine spoke again the blonde blinked rapidly and looked to her, realising the conversation was continuing. “A lucky connection. Have you been here before?”

“Oh?” Sabine asked, not entirely surprised. She didn’t know Eric very well, but she knew he was a proper vampire - moody, violent and egotistical. Sabine didn’t mind it, but she got along with almost everyone. “Something happened?”

Helena shook her head “We grew tired of the other, he turned myself and my twin sister....Released us both.” The vampire said simply, but she gave a small smile to the other as she tried to push away the thought “What about yourself?”

Helena frowned “I no longer enjoy or desire to be around him, but circumstance has put me back here....I am not connected to him since he released me, but now he over compensates” she murmured “It is a very taxing job indeed.” she agreed.
