Vegeta's relationship with Bulma falls apart awkwardly. Altho their relationship was very hot & heavy initially, after several years she never wanted to seriously commit to him and preferred an open relationship. Both had flings, and most of which never amounted to much. However, eventually Bulma meets someone she really falls for and decides to have a serious relationship with him, without discussing it with Vegeta first. Vegeta, who learns about it the hard way by walking in on Bulma and her new boyfriend, rages about it and behaves badly.
Eventually, Bulma and Vegeta decide they can remain friends, but Vegeta, who had never given his heart to anyone before he slowly fell for Bulma all those years ago, is crushed and suffers mentally and emotionally from it. Additionally, since he has been financially dependent on Bulma and her family the entire time he has lives on Earth, he is forced to awkwardly keep on living at Capsule Corp while Bulma establishes a relationship with her new man. Vegeta's mood spirals out of control for awhile and he ends up having a series of unhealthy relationships which always ended in disaster.
Goku remains fully committed to and in love with ChiChi, whose health begins to decline. She searches for years for a diagnosis and continues to get sicker and sicker until the doctors discovered that there is no cure. She will have to endure pain, weakness, and suffering for the rest of her life. During this time, she encourages Goku to seek sexual comfort outside of their marriage since she can no longer provide that for him, on the condition that he used protection and stays married to her, and that he remains discreet about it. Goku rarely takes her up on that offer, since sexual flings don't mean much to him unless there is a deeper emotional connection.
In the meantime, Goku and Vegeta begin spent time with each other socially off and on, in addition to their normal sparring matches. They start confiding in each other about their lives and their respective romantic relationships; Goku can plainly see that Vegeta is an emotional wreck no matter how hard he tries to hide it, so he tries his best to cheer Vegeta up. Vegeta considers Goku to be mostly annoying at first, but since he is desperate for someone to emotionally confide in, he learns have a little more patience and to deal with it. In time, despite himself, his fondness for Goku slowly grows. He finds Goku to be an empathetic and patient listener, and doesn't give half-bad advice, either. Vegeta even begins to accept hugs from Goku, reluctantly at first, then gratefully.
The two begin spending so much time together that one day ChiChi half-jokingly asks Goku if he and Vegeta are having sex. Goku later tells Vegeta what ChiChi said, and Vegeta's immediate reaction is to sort of laugh a little too forcefully, while inwardly scoffing at himself, thinking how absurd it sounds. Of course they weren't! He and Kakarot, of all people? A small, unignorable voice deep inside him nags at the back of his mind, forcing him to admit, rather reluctantly, that he'd thought about what it would be like to have sex with Goku, though. He's bisexual (a concept he'd never heard of til he got to Earth, since it was normal for Saiyans to have sexual/romantic relationships with all genders, they just didn't have a name for it), so he doesn't have any reservations about an affair with another male, but that was beside the point. His inner voice also reminds him that Goku is extremely devoted to ChiChi and therefore off limits, so Vegeta refuses to allow his mind go anywhere near wondering what it would be like for he and Goku to get together. The whole notion was... completely absurd...!!...Right...........?
Fast forward to a couple of years later. Bulma's got one of her infamous parties going on at her place. Part of the reason is to try and set Vegeta up with someone she knows -- a friend of a friend. Vegeta has met this woman a couple of times and although she's attractive and seems like Vegeta's type, he's just not feeling it. But he's trying, and he's been so lonely lately, he needs companionship.
Goku is late to the party, as usual. He's going it alone, since ChiChi is too ill to attend. Finally he shows up, but isn't dressed for it -- it's semi-formal. Vegeta sighs, he can't even be pissed at Goku because he's gotten used to his antics by now -- it's just Kakarot being Kakarot, he thinks. Goku approaches him, saying basically I know what you're gonna say, I know I'm underdressed but it's only because I got two suits and I couldn't decide what to wear, and I want your opinion. Then he IT's back to his place, grabs his two suits which are on hangers and IT's back to Vegeta. Vegeta ponders the two, and gives Goku his opinion on which he likes better. Goku leaves again via IT and Vegeta wanders back to the party, figuring it will take a little while for Goku to return. He meanders back over to his date, makes some small talk with her, dances with her to a song or two, then wanders off, rather bored, looking for a drink.
Suddenly, Goku appears again across the room and is greeted happily by everyone. Vegeta is dumbstruck at how amazingly attractive Goku looks in that suit -- to his surprise, he is absolutely transfixed -- it's like there is a halo of soft light surrounding Goku. Apparently, he's not the only one ogling Goku, who soon has a couple of ladies following him around and hanging on his every word. Meanwhile, Vegeta has been drinking a bit. He doesn't often indulge, so he begins to feel slightly tipsy after just a couple of drinks. He's loosened up a little and is thinking about how he feels about his date, who is starting to really make some eyes at him. It makes him feel awkward and put on the spot, which surprises him -- normally he'd jump at the chance to drown his sorrows with an escapade of sexual bliss. He excuses himself to the restroom, where he bumps into Goku, who is glowing with sweat and buzzing with half-drunk energy. By now, Goku's jacket has come off and the remainder of his clothing has become disheveled. Vegeta blinks, scarcely believing that somehow Goku has become even more beautiful. Vegeta wonders if it's just the alchohol muddling up his brain...
Goku halts on his way back out of the restroom, exclaiming Vegeta's name happily, and stops to talk to him. They chat about their respective evenings and how things are going with their dates. Goku laughs and tells Vegeta how he was just about to get laid, but the woman who had been hitting on, and making out with him had abruptly left the party, and he didn't get her number (or remember her name), so his night was officially a bust. He laughs about it though, with that good-natured way of his. Vegeta smirks; if he had been in Goku's position, he'd have been a lot more frustrated. But Goku wasn't a sex maniac the way he was -- or at least, he sure didn't seem that way. Goku asked Vegeta how things were going with his date, and Vegeta sort of shrugged, saying that things were pretty meh. Goku awwwwww'd and said he'd do his best to cheer Vegeta up, dragging him to the dance floor.
They spend the rest of the party hanging out together, talking, laughing, and even dancing a bit. It's getting later and Goku keeps putting off leaving, saying that he's got to go soon, he's got to get up early to plow the fields in the morning. He's been working hard to keep up with ChiChi's medical bills. He and Vegeta are a bit off by themselves now, hanging out at a quieter part of the bar so they can hear each other talk. Their conversation is amiable, and Vegeta notices that Goku touches him from time to time as he speaks. Vegeta is shocked to find himself not minding. But he's working on his fourth drink now and it's really loosening him up. To his surprise, not only is he not minding it.. it actually feels nice. Warm. Soft, yet firm. He finds his mind wandering to lustful places. Vegeta hasn't had sex in a couple of months at least, not since his last disastrous relationship (with a married woman, no less), and he's been a bit starved for affectionate touch (among other things).
Goku talks jokingly about both of them striking out with their dates that evening, and Vegeta smirks, but sucks in breath a little. He can feel the warmth of Goku's body pressed up against him, with Goku's arm draped affectionately around Vegeta's shoulder. He can't believe he's even thinking this, but.. suddenly, with a tilt of his head and half-lidded gaze looks right into Goku's eyes, and says to him... "Oh, Kakarot..." *smirks*... "We should just fuck one of these days and get it over with."
Goku blinks and takes another sip of his drink. “Huh.” He blinks again and takes a step back from Vegeta, looking him up and down. Vegeta crosses his arms, smiling, one eyebrow cocked, looking back at him, almost in defiance. "Well, Kakarot...what do you think?"
Goku pauses for a bit more, the wheels in his mind obviously turning. "Well...I have hard-on right now, if that answers your question." Vegeta descends upon him, grabbing him by a fistful of shirt and drags him back over to a shadowy spot and kisses him deeply. They fumble awkwardly through a brief makeout session. Vegeta wants to find a place for them to fuck right then and there, but Goku protests -- saying not that he doesn't want to, but he really, really has to go so he can get his work done in the morning. Vegeta whimpers, pouty and frustrated, but lets him go. He ditches his date (who he lost track of hours ago, anyway) to go home & masturbate furiously til he passes out.
A few days pass until Vegeta and Goku actually have sex. There are a few awkward meetups -- they're spending their usual times together, but the sexual tension is extremely thick between them. Vegeta feels like a fool. Suddenly he's tripping over his words, nervous in Goku's presence, self-conscious. Late one night at Vegeta's place Capsule Corp, they finally get around to their first sexual encounter, which is lot of fumbling and nervousness, starting with kissing and touching, then mutual masturbation and more awkward exploration til they both orgasm. Vegeta collapses against Goku's chest, both of them panting, covered in sweat and other sticky fluids. Goku kisses the top of Vegeta's head and tells him that he's got a special song for him, one he's been waiting to play for Vegeta til just the right moment. He gets up and with a serious look on his face, walks across the room to open up a laptop to queue up the song.
Goku looks Vegeta straight in the eye and presses Play. Suddenly, the room is filled with the song "I Just Had Sex" by The Lonely Island... and Goku starts singing along at the top of his lungs and dancing around the room. Vegeta turns beet red and pulls the covers over his head, cocoons himself into a bundle, and attempts to crawl under the bed to hide as Goku serenades him.
Epilogue
Goku eventually approaches ChiChi to confess to her that he and Vegeta have started an intimate relationship. Thus far there has been an unspoken rule to keep his extramarital affairs completely to himself, but the relationship between he and Vegeta is becoming more than just a sexual fling, and Goku feels the need to be honest and open with his wife. ChiChi does not take it well. She had been in remission, but suffers a relapse at the shock. She spends some time in the hospital and upon release is given into the care of her father, at her insistence. She rages every time she lays eyes on Goku, which is obviously bad for her condition, and she orders him to leave their home. Goku finds a small house in the countryside and moves in shortly thereafter. He and Vegeta continue to develop their relationship, and sometime later, Vegeta moves out of Capsule Corp and into Goku's home.
