a phrase that kinda bothers me when talking about women's historical roles in europe is "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear it so often, those exact words in the same order even. and once you learn a little more you realize that the massive gaping hole in that list is fiberwork. im not an expert and have no hard numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if fiberwork took up nearly as much time as the other three tasks combined, so it's not a trivial omission.
it's not a hot take to say that the mass amnesia about fiberwork is linked to the belittlement of women's work in geneal, but i do think there's a special kind of illusion that is cast by "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear that and think "well i cook and clean and take care of children (or i know someone who does) and i have a sense of how much work that is" and you know of course that cooking and cleaning were more laborious before modern technology, but still, you have a ballpark estimate you think, when in fact you are drastically underestimating the work load.
i also think that this just micharacterizes the role of women's work in livelihoods? cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children are all sisyphean tasks that have to be repeated the next day. these are important, but not the whole picture. when we include all kinds of fiberwork—and other things, such as making candles or soap—women's work looks much more like manufacturing, a sphere we now associate more with men's work. i feel like women's connection to making and craftsmanship is often elided.
And part of 'cooking' was brewing, pickling, preserving, fermenting..
Also memory-holed is how incredibly time-consuming laundry was and how much of it relied on physical strength.
So Darling Child is going through a My Little Pony phase, specifically Friendship is Magic, and like any small child they are drawing what they are obsessed with.
It’s interesting to see their changing understanding of perspective, style and detail… but this is resulting in drawings that are both full of character and mildly haunted.
So I present to you:
1. Black Eyes
Black eyes is a pretty decent unicorn pony, with a very stylish cutie mark, though that horn isn’t quite in a traditional location. However it’s the eyes that I find most distinctive. Clearly an attempt has been made to give them a highlight but the result is a ‘unicorn’ worn black sclera.
2. Miss Eyelashes
Miss Eyelashes is a more traditional unicorn, with an attempt at a prancing pose, but the extra detailed lower eyelashes are just unnerving. She does look like she desperately wants to be friends though.
3. Human Cutie Mark
Our third exhibit has a human cutie mark. This is far too thought provoking. Apparently the cutie mark’s name is Sam, and he has a hat because he’s a magician.
Which pony is your favourite?

I just remembered that this was a thing that was HILARIOUS in 2006 and apparently that was ten years ago now.
Old people: join with me in remembering how funny we found this on LiveJournal.
Young people: look at this lolrus, it’s so happy, it has a bucket.
And then they stealed away the bucket and we realised we had fucked up a perfectly good elephant seal and given it anxiety.
listen this vintage meme is high quality and i will hear nothing said against it
20 years. I am not happy about this.
Tag game reblog this and put Baby’s First Blorbo in the tags like who was the first Character to move into your head and live there back when you were still figuring out how to tie your shoes
vampires are so full of shit. "oh the human race is beneath us, you're just livestock to us" I don't think you know what livestock is. do you feed us? care for us? protect us from predators? no. you just slink around dark alleys and ambush people. that's not what a higher being does. that's a bottom feeder. a parasite. karate punches your head off
usamericans living in houses made out of paper set an impossible standard of masculinity for angry men in other countries
kyoulle (french kyle) downing a nicotine redbull and attempting to put a hole through the thousand year old cobblestone wall in his bedroom
This issue came to light when in Jersey shore: family vacation when the gang went to Italy and fuckhead Mike slammed his head into an 800 year old concrete wall full speed expecting it to be upstate NY plywood and got a neck injury and looked like this the rest of the season
still designing this png tuber character, I want her to come across as alien or otherwordly in terms of color but her physical form is very cutesy/ least threatening thing she could make up. I determined which antler/horn style, tail style, and eyeshine style I wanted her to have but the color is really stumping me.
something about uploading makes it more saturated, some more color passes - krita allowed me to save this jpeg but didn't save the extra layers I made????

whenever you stop and listen to self advocacy by people w cognitive disabilities we're always saying things like "i want to choose what clothes to wear" "i want to date without someone supervising me" "i want to have input into what medication and surgeries i get" and like that's really fucking sad and nobody seems to consider how fucking miserable it is for any class in society to be pleading for these things as a group
I don’t know who needs to hear this but now is THE time to incorporate walking back into your routine. I know it’s like trendy to do hot girl walks, but during this time of year it’s one of the easiest ways to reset your mood or breathe through your anxiety or just take a moment to exist. I’m all for walking with a playlist on, but walking in silence and just appreciating the fall breeze and the mellow sun and everything about fall will absolutely help you feel a little better and costs $0. And we are at record temperatures right now so we truly need to appreciate all the time we get with cool beautiful weather. Take a walk!!!! It will help u I promise
Dick Cheney has to be like a top 5 most evil person that's ever lived
it's one of the worst injustices of our lifetime that he was never imprisoned and executed for crimes against humanity
i wish someone would pet and love me unconditionally like a dog (remembers people follow me and see my posts) ive actually never cared about or wanted anything
hello child born between the end of the 1990s and beggining of the 2000s, welcome to my saw trap. in front of you is a computer, you can learn to code and guarantee yourself the only career that will be available in a couple of decades, or you can play around on ms paint and develop a beautiful creative mind that will starve to death forever, you have a few years to choose but by the time you do it'll be too late
I think it sucks that you have to go to so many different kinds of doctor to take care of yourself. It's the 21st century. I should be able to go to a single office where they scan me with a big xerox machine and tell me what I'm allergic to and why my tummy hurts and if I have any cancer or cavities or if my glasses prescription has changed. And then I should get a sticker.
What if I just tried going to the vet instead of ten different doctor's offices. At least they might give me peanut butter.
