Pippa approached her friend and smiled. “Esme… Hi.” She replied. “I thought I saw you go in here earlier. I figured I’d meet you and we could walk home together.” Pippa told her honestly. “With all the disappearing, I wouldn’t want you to go missing as well.” The blonde said. “C’mon. It’ll be safer with the two of us anyways.” 

“Ok. Next time call me and I will meet you somewhere. I don’t like you out here in this crazy fog alone.” She shook her head. “You could easily have gone missing yourself.” She said taking her friends arm. “Yes, lets go together.” She told her. “You want to have dinner tonight?” She asked her.

Serenity hadn’t slept much the couple of nights prior. With everything going on, her mind seemed to be running constantly. The only bit of solace she ever got was Esme. Curled up in bed with the woman she adored so much brought her so much peace, so much joy. It also brought her pain, knowing that she was too scared to be ‘out’, to tell the world she wanted to spend her life with another woman. The woman rolled over in bed and looked at her partner. Serenity’s eyes were tired and concerned, but she tried to mask it with a smile. “How the hell can you be such a beacon of light with so much bullshit going on in this world, hm?” she mused. “I wish I could stay here all day and avoid all of that out there. Especially knowing what my sister, Alice, is going through now.” She sighed. “None of it’s fair.”

Esme found solace in no other place than where she was at the moment, lying next to Serenity in her bed. She had many regrets in her life, but the woman next to her was not one of them. A smile broke out across her face as she saw the other looking at her. But it faltered when she saw her own fake smile. “Because I have you my love.” She told her. “But, please don’t put on a mask. Its ok to show me how you really feel.” She sighed. She wished she could tell her she was going to be ok. She wanted to, but she couldn’t. “I know its not fair. You can come to my office if you want. I can find something for you to do.” She suggested as she reached up and touched her face. “Can I make us breakfast first?” She asked as she leaned in and touched her cheek.

Alice Adler. Alice Adler. Alice Adler. The name had been repeating over and over again in her head the moment she had heard who had found the body. She decided the resident needed a visit from the town council and she would be the one to do it. She grabbed a basket of cookies and brownies from the bakery in an attempt to look like a concerned town official. She knocked on her front door, smile plastered on her face, basket looped in her arm. When the door opened she wasn’t sure who was standing in front of her. “Hi. I’m Esme Mathison, I’m on the town council and I just wanted to come by and see Alice and check on her.” She said holding up the basket. “I know cookies and brownies can’t fix the trauma. But I hope they might ease it a bit.”

Esme had noticed her cupboards were a little more bare than she liked when she made her morning coffee. With everything that had been going on she had been working non-stop and hadn’t made he way to the local grocer in a while. She made her way through the store filling her basket with things, until she came to her favorite shelf and found none of the freshly made bread on it. She found Remi, who always seemed to be working to see what was going on. “Hey, there doesn’t seem to be any of that soda bread that is usually here. Am I too late for the day or maybe is there some in the back?’ She asked hoping there was still some somewhere in the store.

Esme had been at home when she got the first call. She knew what it was before she even answered the phone. She was one of the few people in town that knew what was happening and she was going to take it to her grave. Sure she knew it was probably ethically wrong, but she justified it to herself as for the greater good. A few less, to help the masses. After the first call she decided she should probably check in with the rest of the council, head to town hall and see how things were going. 

When she stepped outside it was as she expected, the fog was dense and her vision was compromised. She kept on alert as she walked her nerves on edge as she made her way through town. As she approached the street corner someone came into view. “Pippa?” she said as she saw her friend. “Pippa, what are you doing out here?” She asked her friend worried for her instantly.

“A compliment about what?” Mal put his hands on his hips now and raised an eyebrow. “Maybe it’s because you interrupted my good mood?” He suggested then rolled his eyes. “I’m hardly still trying to get my baring, I fell months ago.” Malachi was feeling a lot of things about being fallen but no one needed to know any of it, not Edgar, not Gravi and not Peyton (not yet anyway).

“About the good work your doing. Look I know, I’m a sin all lust filled and what not, but I do appreciate a good deed.” She shook her head. She blamed her need to compliment on the influence of Serenity. “And you for the record spoke to me first.” She sighed. “Oh come on. It may have been a few months, but you had what a millions years up on the streets of gold. No one could adapt that easy.” She said looking him up and down. “But, you probably also haven’t gotten a proper fuck since you been down here either and all that pent up inside of you.....:She said with a smirk and soft shake of head.

Malachi scoffed. “Newsflash, he didn’t write shit.” he rolled his eyes. “Well, if I’m going to forced to live down here for the rest of my life, it’s the least I could do.” Mal shot back at her. That was it, being fallen, being down here for the rest of his long immortal life. At least he had some company to share a bit of it with. “What do you want?”

Esme laughed. “I know that. Come on Mal, what do you take me for one those cherubs you guys love to toss around upstairs.” She shrugged. “Well I really had just come over her to pay you a compliment.” She answered him sincerely, that had been her intention. But now he was just piss and vinegar to her. “But if this the attitude you have after being a do-gooder, why would anyone do that work?” She looked around. “Or maybe its that fall from grace, still trying to get your bearings.”

Malachi had finished for the day at Hope House and was saying goodbye to the person he had been helping when he spotted her standing there, it caused him to roll his eyes a little. “I doubt you’re homeless, Lust. What do you want?”

Esme was walking through the town, bored, when she spotted someone she knew. And of course he was doing work of the angels, helping the homeless and less fortunate at the Hope House. She stopped not to far from him and watched his interaction. When he spoke to her she shrugged. “Actually nothing Malachai. I was just observing your angelic behavior. You just can’t help yourself can you? Always have to be the do-gooder.” She said with a small laugh.

As daylight slowly crept in through the window, Serenity’s eyes began to flutter open. Much to her delight, Esme was there. Just as it did every time Patience found Lust, her heart swelled. She wasn’t sure if virtues and sins were supposed to love, let alone love one another, but she couldn’t deny the intense feelings she had for the other. “You’re so beautiful,” she whispered, her voice a bit raspy from sleep. She hummed a bit at the sensation of her fingers running through her hair, a sleepy little smile appearing on her lips. 

The virtue slowly propped herself up on her elbows and stared at Esme for a moment, taking in all of her beauty. “I’m lovely. Better knowing that you’re here,” she finally responded. She reached out one of her hands to touch Esme’s, cherishing the contact between them. “How are you, my love? Did you sleep well?” 

Esme leaned in stealing a quick kiss from the other, her heart fluttering slightly as she did so. Her mind racing with thoughts that she quickly pushed away. “I am starving.” She said with a small laugh. “I think we need to eat something and soon. Because I’m not done with you yet.” She said as she picked up the hand touching hers and kissed it again. “So, you want to order in, or should we get dressed and I can be seen with the most beautiful being ever created.”  She wasn’t sure why she felt the need to say these things, but the words just poured out of her. She wanted the positive reactions she knew they would elicit from Serenity. Not because she wanted to use them to her advantage like she normally would, but because she genuinely wanted to see the virtue happy and she wanted to make her feel that way.

Anthony stared at the woman for a few seconds, mind racing to catch up with what she’d just said, when suddenly he was belting out a hearty laugh.  The human had to clutch at his sides, it hurt.  “Oh my god, oh fuck.  You-you’re serious?” he asked between bouts of laughter.  

Anthony wiped at his eyes, tearing up from laughing so hard.  “Here I was thinking about asking my doc if I’m having too much sex and you say I’m repressed.  Fuck lady, where’d you get that impression?”

His laughter caught her off guard. For a moment she almost got defensive, but then his words caught up with her and she jus shrugged it off. She look at him up and down. “Oh sweetheart, I don’t know who it is your are fucking, but they must not be doing it right if you have this much tension in you.” She said reaching into her coat pocket nad pulling out a card. “Here call if you two decide you to do something about that.”  She said handing it to him with a wink before turning on her heel and heading to meet her Serenity.
