Welcome to my sketch blog. I post my design, illustration and photography works, as well as rant my ass off every now and then, which, feel free by the way, to skim past and ignore and continue feeling your usual, happy self :)
Since I could hold a pen, I’ve drawn always and everywhere. Sometimes my mother had to check on me in my room to see if I was still alive, because like many kids, I was totally engrossed in my colorful world (containing princesses, knights and dragons mostly).
In school I doodled on math sheets,folders, notebooks, school desks, & restroom walls. Even my leather pencil case was doodled on. Illustrating on my learning materials rewarded me with bad marks for diligence and order.
The art classes at Gymnasium (a prestigious German high school) gave me the coup de grace, discouraging me from ever drawing again. I thought I couldn’t draw, because I always drew differently from the rest of the class — from my perspective and imagination.
It started when I had to draw characters for a Flash Animation class in art school two years ago. I had to lose my fear of failing to create a nice character for a little flash game. I overcame my fear and I’m now able to tell stories, experiment, express my feelings and thoughts visually. When I realised that I drew everyday as much as I could, I realised that I wanted to be an illustrator, to finally do what I love fulltime.
I get a lot of questions and messages about this topic, so I know there are some people who feel the same way, and might be interested in reading this. That is why I decided to write about how I lost the fear of drawing.
DRAWING IS THINKING
Sometimes I just wanted to take a picture of my mind; a precious moment, a feeling or a dream. I discovered that I didn’t need a science fiction machine to make this possible, just a pen and paper.
Something to inspire: Imagine your grandmother saying this:
“You can draw well!”
I’m not as excited about technical ability as much as I am about drawings which I can develop an emotional connection with. To me, a “good drawing” is more than a pretty picture. It is visual thinking. An exciting drawing is: imperfect, reflective, brimming full of ideas, makes me think, and holds my attention for more than 2 seconds.
To help pay for my university course fees, for I am open for commissions!
I specialise in stylised portraits/ "fashion illustrations" such as the the ones posted below, and throughout my blog.
Quick, Cartoon style portraits
COST: I was thinking about $15 NZD, which is about $12 USD for the cartoon inspired portraits seen below.
Extras such as backgrounds, more than 1 character etc will of course, cost a little bit more (which will be discussed once initial contact is made through me).
This is still open for suggestion though, I don’t know how much people will be willing to pay for these things.

Note: These would cost more due to taking more time to complete, so around $25-$30. I also don't do painted backgrounds, sorry!

I ONLY DRAW HUMANS FOR THE TIME BEING.
PROCESS: I will do some initial sketching, which I will then send to you, the customer, for evaluation. If there are any changes to be made, this is when they will be done. Payment is to be made at this stage also. I will then complete the final illustration and send you the files in High RES JPG format.
I would also ask the customer to supply a reference or description, (either a drawing, photograph or written).
PLEASE NOTE that these are only digital commissions, so you don't actually get a printed, physical copy (unless you live in New Zealand, I may be able to make an exception)
PAYMENT: Payment is to be done through internet banking (I don't have PayPal just yet, but am looking into it).
CONTENT: Please note that I am not comfortable drawing NSFW things such as nudes/pornography/gore! A bit of blood is OK, though.
SIZE: I typically work at A3 international paper size (297 x 420 mm / 11.7 x 16.5 in and in 300dpi [which insures for high quality printing!] I can work bigger if requested, and if an image needs to be resized any smaller, I can do that quickly also!
