And then all of a sudden, without realising it at first, we're in Scotland! Some insane weather (well, what did we expect?) and a military parade later we finally spot Edinburgh on the horizon. It's all a bit surreal, but after 2000km by bike it's time to start the real adventure... ๐๐๐
Unbelievable sunshine in Northumbria and an amazing ride along a bike trail very fittingly called Coast and Castles. Way to go out with a bang, England!
Past busy docks and silent mines on to Alnwick Castle aka Hogwarts where we joined a tour of the Poison Garden and, fully traumatised, vowed never to even come close to any plant ever again.
Tyneside to the coast
Howay man! Ganninโ doon toon for some purely belta asian scran, canny haircuts anโ all. Newcastle is propa mint, like!
Pushed our bikes to the limit, but Durham was definitely worth it ๐๐ผ๐ฒ
Up and down - but mostly up - through the moors to Middlesbrough and its Tees Transporter Bridge (or โTrannyโ as it's more affectionately known)
Pirateโs graves, abbey ruins that inspired Draculaโs castle and more nightmare fuel at what has to be the most random and eclectic, so naturally also the most fantastic, museum imaginable. Whitby has it all.
Cliff-top hike from Robin Hoodโs Bay
Saw a puffin up close for the first time ever at RSPB Bempton Cliffs ๐ง๐ฆ๐
Return to the coast at Scarborough
Fast-track north: A quick, exhilarating bike ride through sunny London to switch trains and it's off to the Yorkshire countryside..
Wonderful Winchester
Following Drake's Trail (Sir Francis not the rapper) to Plymouth, where we shacked up in a dingy flat drinking tea and watching bargain hunters until our colds and the rain were gone
Dartmoor National Park: Absolutely stunning - in any weather ๐ฆ๐๐
Lots of lush green rolling hills... and also lots of rain.
