today, I wish for light,
the humbling of myself against the honeyed sky.
today, I want a miracle,
gasping for air as I dive up to the moon,
rippling the surface of the body of water ever so gently.
in the autumn, it’s easy to lose myself,
leaf after leaf blanketing my body like an endless cloak.
I wait for the days to get shorter.
& yet, somehow,
the sun always rises again,
& I think that, maybe,
I can go on.
today, I wish for light,

the dull wretchedness in me was still awake.
haven’t we flown to the moon?
haven’t we run up mount olympus?
haven’t we looked into the abyss, and lived?
who speaks for us in saying,
this is enough?
there is a wicked rage that blooms within my womb. it threatens to eat me up and force me out through my own gullet. furiously, I try to quell it. it is a venomous snake that must be tamed, for it spits poison instead of producing seed. unrelenting maggot, I banish you. there is something rotten here in the state of me, but the mirror will not let me give up. over and over I break it into shards, trying to carve out the meat beneath the meat. the fungus clings onto the lining of my stomach with its barbed hooks and it will not let go. one day, I succeed in shredding myself and my intestines spill out. too late I realise that the torture devices have always been my own nails and teeth. for the first time I look at my hands and see the crimson dead skin choking up my fingers all the way to the germinal matrix. for the first time I floss and extract sinew from the gaps between my teeth. the pungent stench staggers me. how long have I spent consuming myself? how long have I been grinding my own bones to powder and dissolving them in my oatmeal? how long have I wrapped my own hands around my own throat and gasped out for air? who am I to say
too late?
in the darkest night, I will stand up
I will breathe starlight

I must say something: this is enough and we must let the knife go I want to forgive myself here is the last liver for a while banana tree, are you still with me? once I threw myself down and woke up on a planet so far away I ate the clouds mother, I said, where is the moon? there is no moon, she replied there is only a shiny coin waiting to be spent banana tree, are you listening? I put the coin up my cunt like I was a piggy bank & shook myself around like I was trying to see if there was anything left in me but, banana tree, there was only a single rattling what I’m trying to say is: let there be sound, I want abundance and prosperity, I want better and more.

I have a body borne of rituals.
