There’s nothing to return, Vanitas! Our original self is gone and merging won’t fix that! You need to find something else to live for because this... this isn’t realistic! Now let go of me! [ he roughly tries to pry his wrist out of his grasp ] Terra and Aqua will get mad if they see this!

[ he furrows his eyebrows, frowning] No, we’re not. I don’t feel any ache.

Enough with this! [ he grips Vanitas’s wrists to pry his hands off] You know what happens if we were to merge. Don’t you ever just want to live? To be your own person?

[ Things were different since Xehanort’s defeat. Everyone seemed happier - the *world* seemed happier.

And it pissed Vanitas off to no end.

Time and time again he was seen as a threat. Which, well, they weren’t wrong, but he grew increasingly annoyed with the attempts to subdue and capture him. Terra and Aqua both treated him as if he was some rabid animal, talking in hushed tones like he’d react to loud noises, debating over his fate as if he was a dog meant to be put down.

He could escape easily, of course. They were idiots if they thought a single sleep spell and some weak cage could prevent him from wreaking havoc. The peace around him was sickening.. It drove him to irritable. Though he could control his powers now, the stray Unversed always seemed to pop into existence - which in return caused more irritable.. and well, you know how the cycle goes.

He wasn’t going to live a life that was nothing but a mere cycle of playing cat and mouse with some idiots, nor did he want to hang around for an eternity of boredom.

Of course.. there was always one perfect solution, and the only reason he knew to live for.. ]

Ventus.. Merge with me.

[ Though the world had finally settled into peace, Ven had been finding it a bit more difficult to adjust to than he imagined.

A lot happened within a short amount of time after his waking, and he’s still trying to process it all now that he actually has the time and space to. He’s remembered things about himself he’d forgotten as a result of the damage to his heart, and he’s not really sure how to feel about it all.

Happiness and relief can’t even begin to describe the feelings he has now that he’s back with Terra and Aqua, but it’s not the same as before. They’ve all changed in their time separate from one another, which isn’t necessarily bad, but it serves as a reminder of what they’d endured at the hands of Xehanort.

One of their most significant reminders, for Ventus especially, even lives under the same roof now.

He doesn’t want to hate Vanitas, doesn’t think he’s capable of it, but, well, most of the time it’s just hard. ]

[ he lets out a tired sigh ] No, Vanitas. Don’t you understand? We’re hardly the same person anymore. It’s never going to happen.
