One thing not mentioned in this article worth pointing out -- the sketches are done by a man. Introduces the idea of male gaze into all the equation. If one of the women featured described her jaw as wide with confidence and happiness, and he very well may have still drawn her in an "unattractive" light, because of his own views and ideas of what beauty is and can consist. Disclaimer: I think there is ABSOLUTELY beauty and progress in taking a step back and thinking, hey maybe I should be less hard on myself, but we can do better. I don't necessarily 100% agree with everything in this article, either, and 1D may or may not be one of my guilty pleasures -- just thought it was worth a share.

Exorcism of the Last Painting I Ever Made, 1996 

in 1996, Tracey Emin lived in a locked gallery room for fourteen days with nothing but a lot of empty canvases and art materials. during her two-week art-therapy session, Emin could be watched, stark naked, through a series of wide-angle lenses embedded in the walls. her time spent resulted in an installation including 14 paintings, 78 drawings, 5 body prints, and various other painted and personal items.

  The room now exists as an installation work.

i think i love Kara Walker, i think i love what she's doing with her work. i love the initial responses people have, my initial response was just literally a thousand questions my mind was like ?????????????????? but after reading more about her and exploring her work more i think i love her. i really love how personal her work is. i think her biggest opposition comes from the black community and it's interesting to read why. i'm wondering then why white people love her as an artist? or why it's easier for a white person to like her work? questions questions questions

This photo makes me thing about the idea of male gaze vs female gaze, I wonder how this shot would look if a woman was behind the camera. I also wonder if upon looking at this photo, you would guess/know that it was taken by a man.
