      “you know maeva and i face-timed last night,” she admitted aloud to the male, smiling to herself at the memory. his three younger siblings had become a sort of second family for vera and she was thankful for them       especially considering how her own step siblings treated her as a child. “i’d like to go see them with you when we get back. . .if that’s okay with you of course.” as much as she loved them she would never dare to step on his toes like that. she had manners.  //  @aresfms​

finley.

              he had just gotten off of work , flinging his smithies apron over his shoulder as he’s headed to a booth to relax for a while before his last class of the day. he’s got a coffee in hand , mind wandering before his head pops up , faced right with vera. fuck. he wasn’t avoiding her , he was just –––– avoiding her. he couldn’t help it. it was dangerous waters , getting feelings for someone who would never reciprocate. so , he pulled away. better to deal on his own than bother vera with it. she wanted things to be intimate , but intimacy tended to cause finley to fall , and that’s what he was trying to avoid. “ oh. hi , vera. ” he takes a sip of his coffee , looking literally anywhere but at her. “ no , no , of course not. i’ve just been busy , you know ? working , school , i ––– ” and yet , whenever she was in the group chat you just happened to disappear , huh fin ? or when you saw her on campus , you’d go the other direction ? “ i’m sorry if i made you feel like that i ––– ” god , he was lying , and finley wasn’t a liar. it was eating at his soul. “ i’m sorry. can we get lunch ? i just got off. ”  what was he getting himself into right now ? 

       vera isn’t normally like this but she’s had a few drinks that seem to have boosted her assertive nature. buzzed vera is a completely different girl compared to sober vera. her cheeks were rosy from the liquid courage and she was adamant to get the information she desperately yearned for ! her brain is vomiting so many words at her that she isn’t really sure what to say next       she should’ve planned this all out ahead of time, she tells herself. he’s so flustered to the point that her heart drops and she feels a bit guilty. maybe she is coming on a bit too strong. “ sorry for just barging over here, ” she apologized, an awkward laugh shortly following. is she really sorry ? not for wanting to find out the truth but more so for how she worded it all. the offer for dinner was very much compelling due to the low contents of her stomach and she had already been looking for a way to backtrack. “ dinner ? ” she echoed the male before offering a small nod and a smile. “ i think dinner sounds great right about now. i’m starving so i will definitely take you up on that offer. ” nice one. though later through the night she might be tempted to come back to the subject at hand.

       there she is standing outside some restaurant she can’t even pronounce the name of. she’s dressed up to an extent and her hair is tied back to look as nice as she could’ve gotten it. she isn’t really sure how much time has gone by but she does know her ankles are swollen from standing in heels for the prolonged period of time she’s been there. it’s dawned on her already that she’s been stood up but she’s just a little hopeful the other would still show up. when someone she recognizes appears before her she’s a tad embarrassed and almost opts to act like she doesn’t know them. “i just got here,” she mused aloud, awkwardly looking around as if she was searching for someone or something. “i was just       deciding if i actually wanted to go in or not.”

Taking yes another deep breath, Hugo gulped down the remaining of his whiskey before mustering the courage to walk up to Vera for the first time since he had returned to San Francisco. Perhaps the setting of a club on the strip was the least favorable to approach his ex, but the man could barely hold himself back from initiating the first contact with her after all this time. ❛ Hey…you look amazing, tonight ❜ // @veraiisms​

Vera knew better than anyone not to find yourself alone anywhere alcohol was involved. Of course her friend made the executive decision to wander off when she had needed her most. Wine glass in hand she was nothing less than shocked to find Hugo before her and speaking to her for that matter. There was no ill will towards the male       there never would be       but seeing him there ignited a something mournful over their relationship. “Hugo,” she greeted, brushing the compliment aside to guard herself, “it’s good to see you again.” Tongue is tied, she really isn’t too sure what to say to him. The alcohol has yet to kick in. “How are you??”

       her current mission had been coffee. in between two of her classes she had made her way to smithies and ordered her craving for the day. at first she had decided to linger by the counter and wait for her order but after she caught sight of someone her decision flipped like a switch. finley. she held no ill will towards the male but there was a certain annoyance that fluttered in her like a group of butterflies. slowly she made her way over to the familiar face, giving herself a pep talk along the way. “finley,” she greeted, trying to sound aloof as possible. “i feel like you’ve been a bit distant lately,” she pointed out, getting straight to the point, “i didn’t do anything wrong. . .right?” she couldn’t have, she told herself, all i’ve done is bat my eyelashes and practically throw myself at you. though she thought maybe that was it. . .maybe she had came on too strong.   //  @finleytm​.

in middle school vera was that kid who sat in the back and was quiet. no one really remembered who she was due to her introverted behavior but she preferred it that way.

high school came along and her personality flip was like a switch. she was more outgoing and you would typically see her at nearly every party. she was more popular than she was in middle school but she wasn’t like queen b or anything, that wasn’t her scene.

 still managed to graduate high school and get a few scholarships. decided to attend lexington and become a surgical technologist.
