While Vera Incanto will primarily focus on the magical world beneath the veil, we do have a small selection of playable types beyond the "magically inclined human". We are only loosely considered supernatural in this regard as you will not find your standard creatures as playable things, but you will find the following:
Mages β The magically inclined, mages are humans that were born with the ability to access and manipulate the magical leylines and cairns throughout the world. Each mage will belong to one of six schools of magic depending on their unique abilities: Physical, Metaphysical, Naturalist, Astral, Archaic, and Undefined. While they are the majority on Vera Incanto, mages are in truth quite rare throughout the world.
Non-Mages β The mundane, Non-mages classify any standard human that cannot, for some reason, access magic. This is the majority populace in the world, and most non-mages are unaware that magic exists and is real. However, non-mages also include the family squibs that were born into a magical family but never manifested their own magic, along with a handful of non-mages that have "learned and kept the secret" for various reasons.
DΓ¦mons β The companions, dΓ¦mons are technically considered summons and are a type of familiar; a sentient creature that is created by and bound to a mage to help and aid them. Belonging to a realm outside of the human or natural world, they appear human enough if you ignore the occasional blip of wings or horns or fangs or scales. With no magic of their own, they can "borrow" their mage's magic and perfectly reflect it. They also appear capable of shapeshifting into common "familiar" shapes - dogs, cats (domestic), snakes, bats, and birds.
Revenants β The guardians, Revenants are a type of familiar that are technically taboo and disallowed by the ruling body of Mages ( though that doesn't prevent them from existing ). Created through a complex Necromancy ritual, Revenants are technically undead beings given pseudo-life by implanting a person's Shade into a golem husk. They retain their memories, their personalities, and even their appearance (for the most part). Only now, they are exceptionally powerful, unkillable, and have a small requirement of drinking blood to keep their vitality. Though they possess no magic of their own, they are essentially invincible as long as their mage lives and can phase through solid materials at will.
