The difference is that Vahan swore himself to Revani because he believes in her, because she is all there is, because she has taken up his entire field of vision, because her goals are his. He is an extension of her. Riegan exists only in the space between his sword and whatever it’s pointed at. What he fights for doesn’t matter as long as he gets to fight. Always fighting, always moving, always hungry. Vahan forges his path by biding time, playing the game, pulling the strings. Riegan forges his path by cleaving whatever’s in his way.
