@verilumi
Are you two even really giving out food at the end? >:(
“Of course.”
shirokishii.
Her oblivion sure was cute. And he plays along, throwing out a light-hearted chuckle as his right hand draws from the opposite sleeve and scratches at the hairs covering the nape of his neck. “I’m sure we’ll be there soon.” but truthfully, the walk was nice. Nice enough to distract him from the craving of steamed buns that had him drooling just from the thought of them just a few hours ago.
He had never really been affected by weather. Anything, Haru easily adapts to whether it’s the heat, cold, wind, rain, he does not mind it. He doesn’t sweat a lot nor does he get cold to the point where he starts shivering. It was odd, but a perk.
“How has your studies been?” he says, changing the direction of their conversation. A usual question from him, but it’s just because he hasn’t heard from her in a few days considering her busy, busy study regime/schedule. “What new thing have ya found out about?”
She would be lying if she said she wasn’t hungry. Sayoko had a tendency to forget meals entirely, which Haru was well aware of. Mostly because she didn’t notice when she was hungry, she was so buried in work most of the time that normal bodily functions - such as sleeping or eating - completely left her thoughts. Work was really important, after all.
By time Haru asked about her recent studies, Sayoko immediately lit up, forgetting about her earlier embarrassment. “Oh!” She turned towards him, eyes brightening at the mention of anything that had to do with her findings. “I’m studying this new plant I’ve found, I’ve tried to crossbreed it along with this odd flower I found last week. It had something equivalent to thorns coming from the roots, so I thought I would study it further to see if it was just a defense mechanism or a way to gather more nutrients from the ground.”
“Captain has been working rather hard lately, as well. Akon-san makes sure our studies stay on topic most of the time. Lately, I’ve been working on studying spiritual matter in different locations. I’m thinking of taking a trip towards Rukongai’s districts.”
muyuun.
he didn’t reply to that particular part, somnolent eyes instead moving up to give the other a dubious look. “…if you don’t know whether it is, then why were you thinking that it might not be a good idea to rest here…?”
“You’re a little weird — , huh.”
He was a little weird, but she wasn’t about to say that. Instead, she began to smile a bit, tilting her head at the question. “Well, my friend, Haru likes to sleep a lot so maybe I’ll recommend the spot to him.”
“I was just thinking, though, that it might be more comfortable and safe if you slept in your bed. A lot of people don’t pay attention. What if someone accidentally trips over you or something of the sort?”
suishoi.
He raised an eyebrow in scrutiny, his distrust evident in the manner he touched his fingers to his chin and craned his neck to adjust his view. The corner of his mouth pulled into a frown, his eyes narrowing at the idea of … discoloration.
“The side effects sound a bit extreme when considering what it’s supposed to do, wouldn’t you agree – ? After all, the same outcome could easily be brought forth with the use of common medicine.” ( Common medicine that wouldn’t cause such adverse aftereffects. ) For a moment, he allowed himself to wonder what even went within – although in retrospect… that wasn’t a particularly good idea considering the stretch of his imagination.
“As much as I would love to be of help, I doubt I would be a good test subject for something to be of common use.” Though he spoke in seriousness, his mind couldn’t help but wander – imagining the twelfth division as witches and wizards concocting their pois— potions.
“Perhaps someone in the eleventh division would be willing, there’s always someone there who’s bound to have some kind of injury.”
He was right about that. They were a bit extreme, but it was all in a good reason. It wasn’t only for healing purposes. In her defense, it was her Captain’s idea to administrate it to others - she wasn’t really sure of the cause, but it couldn’t be anything too bad. The discoloration was already going to raise a few eyebrows and questions.
“Good job! You’re really smart, Ayato-san!” She turned towards him, still holding the tube within her fingers, though it was still outstretched towards him in case he did want to get a better look. “The point of this experiment is to make sure you don’t have to go to the Fourth for every little injury. Mostly, it’ll be used during missions. That is, if we can make sure it isn’t harmful...” Sayoko trailed off there, musing over the subject for a few seconds, “Don’t worry. The discoloration should be the only flaw. I’ve been working on it.”
By then, she was already growing excited - speaking about these types of things always made her light up. “So far, I only have a few individuals that have agreed to testing a few of our sources out,” she gestured a hand vaguely over towards the many tubes and containers that held all types of different colored substances. While she picked up a small stack of papers to scribble down a few things, the redhead blinked, glancing back towards Ayato, “Oh! I’m sorry, Ayato-san. I got us off track. What were you asking about before?”
totally not from tao but. a sticky note is on her door. it says: "tao-kun is shredded. really shredded. people have seen it. an eight pack." this is totally not from tao.
She…believes it?
lies down
Glances over at him.
hello : )
Almost immediately, Sayoko froze where she stood, eyes widened. “Ah…” For a few seconds, she was at a lost. Was it alright if she said something? Wouldn’t it be odd for her to remain silent - rude even?
Clearing her throat quickly, she replied, “G-Good afternoon!”
suishoi.
“ah – thank you for… the offer — ? but I’m afraid I’d have to decline.”
With unease evident in his words, his fingers ran through his hair and down his face, pausing briefly over his nose. The arising scent accompanied by the fluorescent color was immediately deemed unappealing and unsafe. The artificial aspects that composed of the liquid seemed toxic – and if testing included any form of consumption, he was definitely unwilling.
“although I do have to say that I am curious about this…. this…. what exactly is it’s purpose?”
Sayoko had already turned her attention to her workbench once again, picking up a small stack of paper and shuffling it into a neat pile. Once that was done, she glanced over towards the other.
Oh. “Hm?” She tilted her head slightly to the side, a few red strands falling over her shoulder, “Don’t worry about that. It’s perfectly safe.” Something she was rather obligated to say - working for the Twelfth and all. Not that she was prone to lying or anything, but it was best to keep things under wraps until it was tested to its fullest.
“It’s mostly supposed to help with small things - burns, cuts, those sorts of things. To also reduce scarring. We haven’t really tested it with anything else. Side effects may include, though, dizziness or lightheadedness. And just a bit discoloration.” She left out the part that the discoloration may have been a bit too...lighthearted. The neon color was really a red flag for the entire thing. “It’s just a small experiment, really. So most people won’t have to go to the Fourth for these things.”
“Are you sure you’re not up for testing it out, Ayato-san?”
shirokishii.
With her permission, Haru climbed in through her window, being careful not to spoil the surprise by accidentally turning around or walking past the other. He extends a hand, digits finding their way to her forehead, brushing back her fringe, though it was a short second before he had retracted, allowing his arm to fall back to his side.
“It’s White Day ya’know?” he says, cocking his head to the side as a small grin lay present among his features. “I know you probably weren’t expecting anything, but I brought you something.”
He reached behind his back, slipping the flower from under his waistband and presented it to the other, “I thought this one seemed interesting so I picked it off the ground during my break time. It probably won’t survive long, but it’s pretty ain’t it?” There’s one arm that still behind his back, holding the real present.
“And there’s also something else. Can you hold out your hand for me?”
Sayoko raised her chin slightly when he stepped inside of her office with no problem at all. Haru probably wasn’t aware, but he made everything look so effortless when he moved. She was in a rather good mood today, a light pink dusting her cheeks when he touched her as if it were nothing.
“It looks like it is,” she said softly, a smile still on her face. “I almost forgot, you know.” If it wasn’t for him, she would’ve gone the whole day without even checking the date. He was right to say that she wasn’t expecting anything from anyone--even people in her Division ignored the day. Her Captain didn’t seem very fond of it, after all. Her interest did peek, however, when she spotted the flower in his hand.
As usual, her eyes lit up a bit, interest clear on her face. Even though she had collected and mesmerized nearly every flower or plant she could find, Sayoko still never passed up the opportunity for something new. Especially anything she could keep for just a few days. Expression lighting up once more, she replied, “Thank you, Haru. It really is pretty...” A nice, healthy shade. Even though that would begin to dull in a short amount of time. She opened her mouth to thank him once more though, but he cut her off.
“My hand...?” But she did as she was told, holding out her free hand. It didn’t take very long for her eyes to slightly narrow, though. “Don’t do anything weird.”
shirokishii.
@verilumi, it’s white day you know?
He’s never really bothered with participating in these festivities such as valentines or in this case, white day .. but for some reason, it felt necessary. Haru held a box in his hands and inside held a hair clip with a blue flower embroidery–a glass replica of a lilac. He knew she loved flowers and this was the first thing that stood out to him; she wasn’t excessive on accessories like necklaces, bracelets, or watches, so he settled with something smaller that she could wear without it being a bother in her daily work.
And as he arrives at the windows to her office, he wasn’t all too surprised to see she had left it wide open yet again although winter was still here. He hides the small box behind his back, a small flower he had picked out tucked at the back of his waistband.
“Sayoko.” he calls, peeking in. “You got a minute to spare?”
Sayoko hadn’t really been focused on the day. Really, more often than not, she wasn’t even focused on time. Conducting research, experiments, and fieldwork took a lot of her day, and she’d grown so used to it, she wasn’t really worrying over a holiday such as this. In fact, she hadn’t even really been around for Valentine’s Day, which was just a month ago. Really, she was out of it most of the time.
She did perk up, however, when she heard her name being called. Blinking, she glanced over her shoulder, surprise on her face before it shifted into a welcoming smile, “Haru!”
She took a few steps closer to the window, books and papers still clutched within her arms, “I suppose. What is it?”
listen closely, there’s a storm that’s raging underneath his skin. just one touch, and you’ll be the one caught in the blizzard within. ( art cred. )
