I hate it when people ask "Why do you wear boots or leather all the time?" or "Why do you wear black all the time?" ..Oh because I like to murder people in the dark and get away with it! I don't understand why this bothers them so much. Why do you wear hobo-chic fashion and tie-dyes all the time? Are you a homeless person who wets her pants constantly and would like to get away with it?

RTW: Ready To Welch
Fashion shows are usually my little piece of Disneyland. You get to see magical creations from these geniuses that we call designers. From properly constructed dresses to custom tailored suits and from time-to-time, if you are lucky and in the right type of show, you see these extravagant pieces that you know deep inside you will never look good in, but can not help but simply still gawk at and appreciate.
Fashion shows are a chance for designers to express their creativity, personality and cutting edge designs. The clothes they make represent who they are as a part of the industry, what makes them unique and what makes them stand out from the rest of the millions of designers out there. These shows are crucial especially to the up and coming ones. To put it out simply, if you are not ready, do not do it unless you want to make a fool of yourself, fall and carry that scar around wherever you go. There is no way the brilliant minds of this industry can easily excuse or palliate your dirty work.
Now let us move on to why I christened this entry as such and how my little piece of heaven was crushed and stomped on by Lucifer himself. With the expectations I had in mind, I was deluded by a recent show I attended. Considering it was labeled as 'prestigious', I honestly expected a lot from it. It was a show for fashion designers to show off their custom made chef-d'oeuvre. Instead all we got were supposedly hyped up versions of Ready-To-Wear collections. Promod had genuinely better items and since when was RTW considered as high fashion?
Let me narrate the whole experience as short as possible:
Before the show began, which was thirty minutes late (typical Filipino fashion which I was sort of okay with), they were showing a slideshow of all the designers who were about to introduce their collections. Trying my hardest not to be so judgmental and shallow since we are talking about fashion here, the only thing I noticed was they all had one thing in common: Paris. Not Paris Hilton, my dear haters, but Paris as in the beautiful city of France, one of the four fashion capitals of the world. It is like this is a must-have for every designer to put in their resume. Maybe these designers have never heard of New York, Milan and London? And can we add Tokyo to that list? No matter, it made me sick. Add some variety to your experiences, look around you. Try to build substance in the country you live in. In defense to those designers though, it is healthy to travel and participate in different cultures but at least reflect that on your work, do not leave it as bragging rights if you actually have respect for what you do.
Now to the collections!
First, let us talk about the menswear collection that night. Nothing but one designer, came close to the style and practice of an actual man. If you base your collection on a theme or genre, please make sure you meet the standards. Saying your collection is inspired by Hip Hop, we expect your pieces to look more like Kanye West or P. Diddy, full of life, color and history, not something that looks like it came out of Alexander Wang's closet. Just because your clothes are loosely fitted and paired with white sneakers, doesn't instantly make your items Hip Hop. You have to dig deep, look into it's soul before you start making an entry that will insult a culture.
Speaking of Alexander Wang, I saw a lot of apparel that were inspired by him that night. The casually cool, downtown style that embodies Alexander Wang. I personally believe that most Filipino designers lack the knowledge when it comes to menswear. They are all trapped in these four walls: rock and roll, sex, suits and casual wear, most of them can not even get out. I think it is time for Filipino men to start breaking their shell and express their personalities through the clothes they wear. If a few designers can lead a pack, the rest will follow. Maybe rock and roll is your thing, maybe not but when all of you think of the same thing and no one is any different, there is something wrong.
Combat boots does not describe a hardcore male fashionista. Where are the bags, the 2012 fashion trend for men: two tone, the skirts, colorful pieces and the ever-so-beautiful double monks?
On a lighter side of things, I would like to send my appreciation to that one designer who brought in dresses for men. But next time, make it look more flattering. Do not make your model look like he is about chant with one of the Gregorian monks or post-circumcision.
(Atleast)
(Raf Simons Fall 2010 Menswear: Skirts)
Let us have a temporary sex change and divert ourselves to the ultimate sinners, the women.
Now, let me just start with the models. Although some people will never find curvy attractive, I personally think that is just a matter of getting used to. Marilyn Monroe was not waif-like but she was a sex symbol and most of the women in this country are not size zero. Designers should throw maybe one or two plus size models every now and then. It sometimes just looks dead to me, so maybe a little meat can compensate for the lack of creativity. Most of the models I saw are emaciated. More like clothes hangers than people actually wearing clothes. There is a limit to how thin you are, and that is called Gisele Bundchen, not horror house skeletal. Maybe you were born that way? Well that may be the first time I have witnessed a spawn of two skeletons. I should congratulate you for being the first of your kind.
When using fashion icons or let us just the generalize the term, celebrities, as your inspiration, make sure you envision these people actually wearing your clothes or if they would actually even wear it, and if you do not get that close to your incentive, I advise you just label your collection as Scheiße. Very Gaga and it lives up to your collection.
The R'nB collection. Beyonce would never wear a wrap dress and leggings or an ordinary dress with a very low neck line in her concerts. If she was, she would not be Beyonce or she would actually go to Forever 21 and save herself some money to buy a cheeseburger. Most R'nB women are flamboyant. I saw nothing of that. It really looked like a retail shop was doing a show that night.
(I do not see anything that resembles "R'nB")
A collection has to compose of different looking pieces. Not the same dress recycled over and over again. I do not know who these designers are trying to please. The fashion industry or Greenpeace.
(Yes, that is two different dresses.)
Craftsmanship is very important. Your illustrations and rendering might look commendable, but if you do not know how to sew, your work will look like it has been done by a frog, and that is saying something because frogs can not sew, just like you. Now you have something you can collaborate with.
(Philip Rodriguez will bite your head off)
Now to Lady Gaga. The woman is all about no boundaries. If you take a look at her wardrobe, everything to her is wearable. Just because your wedge is covered with glitters or your jumpsuits are covered in Tron-like line details, does not, in any way make it instantly Lady Gaga. This is how you trample on their dreams: take away the glitters and the details, the clothes will look ordinary; take Lady Gaga's Kermit the Frog details, she is naked. The details make the dress, not the other way around. Besides the collection is very much based on Alexander Wang's Spring 2012 regarding on the Tron-like details and masculine structure.
(Oh glitter shoes! So Gaga!)
Britney Spears is not a fashion icon. She is a music icon but there was not even a single piece that lived up to the Toxic singer. Not even her famous, hipster jeans or her patent leather jumpsuit. So do not make me start nagging about how they ruined Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe because I guarantee the apocalypse will be here sooner than the 21st of December this year.
Although the color blocking collection was not so bad, it was actually pretty decent and well constructed. But overall, majority of the collections failed. Most of the clothes did not even fit properly, it looked like a disease was hanging on the model's body. There was no edge, no variety or even a piece that made everyone's jaw drop. It plateaued miserably. Aside from the color blocking, there were no leopard prints to be found anywhere, thank goodness. There is nothing high-end about that these days, unless you are asking for extreme Kardashian attention. Leave that to the retail shops, do not put it on the runway anymore.

How to Ruin Your Career and Reputation by a Tsunami
Now that I'm seeing an unbiased view of all these hate comments, all I have to say is:
Maybe people should be more open minded that it's not always going to be praises and blessings all the way, but to this specific event, there is also a limit to how you seek attention (especially when you want to get up that social ladder). It doesn't matter how good you are as a person or not, when you post these type of comments in life-threatening times like that, there's only one way out: You're screwed.
So next time little social climbers, when you have nothing nice to say, keep it in your head. It's safer that way.
Look here on how screwed he is. I hope you recover from all that, but as of now, RIP to your "Fashion Designer" career. But congratulations on your newfound fame.
To those who don't get it, an earthquake happened then a false tsunami alert and this guy had to come in with filthy comments during difficult times (he was not alone though).
“Christian Louboutin makes the toughest shoes in the world it took 7 saws to get through this shoe, 4 blades were destroyed and after 20 minutes of drilling we were through. You want to know why someone would pay this much for a pair of shoes because they are like mini tanks women wear that get them safely from one spot to the next!”
Golden Globes 2012 | Top 15 WORST DRESSED
Because of my ability to say what I truly feel, in other words: having an opinion, also it so happens that this years Golden Globes have too many walking disasters trying to strut their stuff, we have fifteen chicks in the line waiting to be smeared on.
15. Freida Pinto - Looks like you ran out of dresses and decided to make one out of your curtain.
___________________________________________________________
14. Natalie Portman - Wow. I did not expect you and your awkward dress to make an appearance on here. You're still pretty though.
___________________________________________________________
13. Mila Kunis - Such a disappointment. You actually look like you knew what you looked like. You're not pleased. Awwe.. It's ok. Better luck next time. (Pat on the back)
___________________________________________________________
12. Shenae Grimes - Shenae Nay! It's good to recycle clothing once in a while by making an outfit out of 2 very different dresses but this one in particular, failed. Even the hippies would throw this one away.
___________________________________________________________
11. Romola Garai - Hi, please take a seat next to Shenae. I don't know what's wrong with you bitches when you thought about leaving the house. If this is your idea of 'mixed media' or 'playing with textures', you need some counseling. And the cut is just OFF!
___________________________________________________________
10. Andrea Riseborough - Hey Andrea! Marie Antoinette called me up from her grave and she said she wants her dress back coz you left her in there naked.
___________________________________________________________
9. Julianne Moore - The dress makes you look like a plant.
___________________________________________________________
8. Emily Watson - I feel sorry for you Emily, I really do :\
___________________________________________________________
7. Ariel Winter - Would you be a doll if I could use you as an umbrella? Thanks.
___________________________________________________________
6. Cameron Diaz - Old age getting the best of you? You should take tips from Dame Helen Mirren, honey, coz your dress isn't helping at all. Your twins look sad and under the weather. Wear a bra next time. Also, put a little color on your face. You look washed out with that bleach blonde hair of yours.
And the Top 5 who should've stayed at home are.....
___________________________________________________________
5. Lea Michele - This is like one of those cartoon skits. You fall inside a tub of tar and run inside a chicken coop. Hilarious!
___________________________________________________________
4. Tami Taylor - I want some eggs, bacon, muffins and coffee, miss. You're not even trying.
___________________________________________________________
3. Meryl Streep - This is how you wear garbage bags to the red carpet. I still love you, Meryl!
___________________________________________________________
2. Jessica Biel - Isn't it a bit too early to drive away Justin Timberlake? Unless you're doing that Corpse Bride theme then it's really fine.
___________________________________________________________
And the worst of the worst....
1. Erin Wasson - This is the type of thing I tell everyone. If you want to look like a whore, walk the streets in a sexy lingerie. That'd be more valid. Don't look like an FHM hobo who gather pieces of cloth from the streets and put them together. I'm pretty sure if you stare at her chest, she'd slap you.
Golden Globes 2012 | TOP 10 BEST DRESSED
10. Malin Akerman - I would wear this dress. The cut is just right.

9. Matthew Morrison - We can't manage to Schu him away. He looks great!
Suit by Dolce & Gabbana

8. Maria Menounos - Gorgeous dress. Minimalist design but the color made it stand out. Not everyone can pull this off, but she did. Don't wear this color if you're unsure, unless you want to look like an uncanny resemblance of a banana.
___________________________________________________________
7. Nicole Kidman - The dress cradled her every curve. This is one dress that doesn't use details as a crutch.
Dress by Versace

6. Emma Stone - Love how the belt made the whole thing look so put-together. The two-toned dress is beautiful!

Dress by Badgley Mischka

4. Madonna - This is the best one I've seen her wear so far. This dress is her. She is wearing herself. How cool is that?
Dress by Reem Acra

3. Kate Beckinsale - One word: Regal, and she is too gorgeous for words. My self-esteem is sliding down the drain.

And we have our goddess on the top spot, who never fails to please me with her thrill-seeking sense of style but perpetually stays elegant and glamourous:
1. Angelina Jolie looks vavavamp! and proves that vampires do not age. She looks timeless and divine in this Versace number. After a few bumps from the previous red carpets she walked on, mama Angie has returned as the arbitrary fashion queen.
i love how true everything here is. is about time for something like this. i applaud u for ur guts ;)
I now know that it is way better to tell the truth than kiss everybody's ass, which is both repulsive and boring. Thank you! x
Philippine Fashion Industry: The Infestation
Hello dear haters! I'm back for another reality check. Forgive me, for it has been a week since I have sinned.
The Philippine Industry, pre-copycats, social climbers and useless designers, was a well respected group of people who knew what they were doing. They were organized, original and consistent with their creations. As a young Cebuana, years ago, my options were limited. I could not really say that there were loads of designers here that suited my palate (not yours, mine). The only foursome that I used to gawk at up to this day, were and are Monique Lhuillier, Philip Rodriguez, Oj Hofer and Felix Yu. These four stay true to their roots but at the same time making their style adaptable to the people who aren't from this country. You could actually see that the dress was made by a filipino but it had that kick. They are different in many ways, in no way pretentious but in every way authentic. Is it the same now with the young, new designers?
HELL NO. Like I said before, copying isn't designing. Maybe there are good ones but that's like 00.005% of the New Designers Population. Enough with these designers, let's look at the Industry as a whole:
The way I look at it now, they're very dependent on the social scene. Not using socialites as guinea pigs or walking mannequins, which I find completely normal and unstoppable, but as a reliable source or a legit example of a fashionista in a fashion website, magazine or TV Show. Although some of them are fine and edible, the rest of them are just, excuse my french, bidon... As in, it's so full of shit you don't deserve to live. Why do they end up there? Because of the simple and obvious fact that they are influential. An organization or company who wants respect doesn't beg for it. They put out all their opinions on the table straight out, and if you do not like something, just simply tell everyone so. People will like you better when your lips don't smell like ass. Everything related to fashion is infested with socialites nowadays. Where did the genuinely stylish go? The underground artists? Yes, there are great style icons out there who are socialites or turned-socialites but not all of them are.... great! Some are pathetic wannabes who think putting a jacket/ coat, mini cargo shorts, a white wife-beater, boots and skull accessories all the time is super cool and different. You can wear a wrap dress, awesome shoes and minimal accessories and still rock it like no one can ever do what you do. It's not about what you're wearing that's important, it's how you wear them. Fashion is also not just for the rich, it's for everyone. So don't be so stuck up by copy-pasting comments or reviews about a Jimmy Choo shoe and putting them under "What's Cool". It's quality over hasty, snobbish picking, otherwise called as nosepicking. Unless you're Vogue (which you're not). Also don't put something like "Green is in, yellow is out" and go post something like "Your style makes you who you are, don't let other people tell you you're shitty looking and outdated" afterwards. You've crossed the borders of stupidity and ignorance in a heartbeat, that all I want to do is bite off your head and sell it on Ebay because of its irrelevance to your body. Style is eternal. By saying "This ____ is in" it actually means, "Oh look! Another thing to try out." not "I'm never gonna wear black because I won't have any friends this season." Same goes with some celebrities. Don't make me start, y'all know what I'm going to say.
Again, the truth hurts but someone has to say it so to not make everyone else, who're actually good, look talentless and useless.
Overwhelmed by the number of follows and response in less than 24hrs. It's good to know there are people out there who feel the same way. You now have your outlet.

The Abuse of the Term "Haute Couture"
Haute Couture (French for "high sewing" or "high dressmaking"; pronounced: [ot kutyʁ], English pronunciation: /ˌoʊt kuːˈtʊər/) refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing. Haute couture is made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable seamstresses, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques. Couture is a common abbreviation of haute couture and refers to the same thing in spirit.[1] (source: Wikipedia)
While all that sounds fine and dandy, completely extravagant and appealing, here's how it all went wrong:
Now let us break this line down: "made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable seamstresses, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques".
Apparently 'time consuming, hand-executed techniques' isn't really important to most designer these days who loosely label their creations Haute Couture, and that's just the start. To finish a single dress in 2 days is a feat, even if you are Christian Dior. So it's safe to say these modern designers are super designers.
Now let me take you deeper into the dress: "usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable seamstresses":
Let us start with the fabric. The cloth they use to make dresses for customers are no where near expensive or high quality. Some of them can not even withstand a year in the closet, even with proper care and maintenance. They honestly have the same life span as a $9 dress and that is obviously not great news.
Now to the seamstress. There are designers out there who are very fortunate to be really good at sewing or are very lucky to have a very good seamstress and there are others who are not so fortunate but still demand a huge wad of cash from their customers. I personally think designers should inspect their dresses at least almost every time to insure the quality of his/her products. I've seen dresses worn by these wealthy socialites that have the most obvious flaws on them. I just feel sorry for them, that's all I have to say. They could've supplied food and water for the whole homeless shelter for a month with the money they wasted on a mediocre dress.
So now, we look at the design. Even if you have the best seamstress in the world, who can pay close attention to every millimeter of your dress, if you suck at design, your dress fails. Because no matter how people try to deny it, they will always judge a book by its cover. Unless you're good at copying. Oh I'm sorry, I meant you were "inspired" by Alexander McQueen thus making a dress that looks exactly like his and making millions out of it because you can't think of your own design to begin with. I mean like, who's going to notice right?
Stylists are usually the people you trust when it comes to dressing up and looking good. But these days, it is hard to look for a good one who actually knows what he/ she is doing. There are only a handful of stylists today who are doing a good job. The rest are brainwashed minions of these designers who think just because they can sell a dress for $2,000, they can rule the industry. Most of these stylists rely on high fashion. With the result of calling everything designer or different, avant-garde.
Avant-garde, my fellow haters, is used to define people who are innovative and someone who respects the arts, culture and politics. It does not say: someone who can create an original but similar piece to Christian Lacroix's. So it's blue instead of black.
This make-up was done for Christian Dior:
Now this one is Furne One's (totally different, right?):
Don't believe me? Google it: Christian Dior Make Up
Oh another one:
Alexander McQueen
Furne One (let's add bunnies and a headpiece to make it look totally different):
DESIGNERS SHOULD NEVER ALLOW THEIR CLIENTS OR THE PEOPLE TO REMIND THEM OF ANOTHER DESIGNER. But unfortunately, they don't give a fuck.
To all those who still don't get it, here's a summary:
High quality expensive fabrics ✗
Sewn with extreme attention to detail ✗
finished by the most experienced and capable seamstresses, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques ✗
Outrageous price tag ✓
Designer is a socialite or popular ✓
A quick reminder:
Come with me for a minute and let's look at this hipster. Though I sometimes appreciate their personality and style, they are not and never will be considered "High Fashion". That is a common mistake people make.
They're just obsessed with hobos and homeless people, like this girl over here. Telling the world that it takes 4 hours before they get out of the house to look like they're dressed down.
Disclaimer: This is directed to some designers and fashionistas out there, not all of them.
The Ugly Truth About Heelless Shoes
Do they scream 'groundbreaker' and 'fashion forward'? Or do they scream to save your life before you get trampled by a team of horses for leaving hoof prints everywhere? Or literally.... ground breaking.
Lady Gaga seems to be doing well with them, so why can't you? I have the easiest answer to that question....
Because of the simple fact that you, my friend, are not Lady Gaga. I can not even begin to rant about how ugly these shoes look when they're being worn by commoners (like you and me).
I believe these shoes deserve their rightful place at the museum as a masterpiece and not a 4-5 inch lowlife. Unless you're Lady Gaga or Victoria Beckham, please put some heel on and do the rest of us a favor.
If I see anyone wear these anywhere I will literally stick a heel up your
Genesis 6:9
Thought I'd go the unicorn road and introduce myself. My name's Veronica, and I'm an avid fan of fashion (both for male and female). Veronica Rabbit is obviously not my real name. Let me take this chance to clarify certain points. The things I say on this blog aren't insults or it is not me trying to bash certain designers, stylists or the like. They are simply my opinion and you are free to feel differently. People need to stop acting like it is possible to please everybody and just go on with their lives. Not a big fan of sugarcoating so yes, might as well expect the worse. That is all. Move along.
