I’m non-binary and disabled and I’m having to fix my computer for the second time this year, the first was replacing the battery and the second is due to it blue-screen-of-death-ing on me. I don’t know how much it’s going to be compared to the last time especially because part of what made it so expensive last time was getting a warranty but it was around $500 then or ~$150-200 without the warranty fee. I love, love, LOVE it when I can tell a fic author has integrated their specialized knowledge in a fic. I was reading a fic that at some point included the character going to visit an art therapist, and it's so clear that the author is an art therapist themself, and the details included are just immaculate and I love it. I've previously read about a character doing fencing for no other reason than the author clearly wanting to write a sport they understood. A character being given a hyperfixation on bugs just so the author can infodump themselves.

The way many people talk about homeschooling and particularly kids who were homeschooled makes it very clear that they think the problem with homeschooling is that the children are cringe and not that it's a widely employed tool of child abuse wherein you as a parent can very easily completely cut off your child from the outside world and give them no other means of interacting with it except through you. Even the school system, as terrible and constraining as it can be, provides too much freedom to children in the eyes of a homeschooling parent.

If you want to completely dominate a child's mind and ideological development, prevent anyone else from noticing any bruises from "unfortunate accidents," have direct control over exactly who they see and when they see them, prevent them from seeking any form of help whatsoever, all you have to do is register your child as homeschooled and you can get away with anything you want.

Odd behaviour, poor social skills, and difficulty with adjusting to the outside world, all seen regularly in formerly or currently homeschooled children - these are all symptoms of abuse and deliberately constrained development. In the same way a victim of domestic abuse instinctively flinches when touched, the victim of abuse through homeschooling flinches when thrust into the greater outside world.

Before I get any comments or asks about it: I don't give a fuck if you personally had a good experience being homeschooled. Good for you.

Having depression is fun because one of the main symptoms is that you want to kill yourself and one of the side effects of the meds is you want to kill yourself but if you at any point even IMPLY you want to kill yourself to your doctors in charge of making you not want to kill yourself, you are forcibly put in "wanting to kill yourself jail".

And I have news that may not surprise you about how "wanting to kill yourself jail" affects your mental state and what it may make you want to do.
