Borne from her sister’s sudden words is an unfurling sensation of warmth that spills from the fell child’s heart, as though it were an assurance that had been awaited by her soul for a thousand years. It takes a moment, almost, to ensure that her ears have not betrayed her in the interests of hope. The hollow vessel of her father’s will goes still, Alear’s voice settling upon her like a rising star’s light—- ever a sure and true ward against seemingly impenetrable darkness. Veyle’s heart stammers, unused; so little of its time spent beating had it witnessed kindness. So little of its time had she truly felt alive, and so clearly loved.

A crown of feathers and ivory sharply turns to face Alear, lavender eyes watchful of their countenance. With a halting breath, soft lips part to speak.

Part of her wishes to deny it, to refuse in all manners that her tenderness might allow; she is not deserving of this home, of a place to belong. She is not welcome upon any earth blessed by the divine, not after she has scraped and clawed away at her own goodness. How many times had voices given praise and weeped her name, and yet were bestowed upon a coldness unthawed? How many wishes and pleas had she left unanswered, returning empty to the faith of her followers if not to exacerbate their despair? Veyle loses count. It does not help the sinking heaviness of her heart.

That’s not true, a small part of her wishes to insist. Veyle is privy to all the ways it sounds wrong. After what I’ve done, my home with you has no place in this life at all…

… but she knows Alear wouldn’t wish to hear those thoughts; especially not from her. And if it is from her sister that these words come, she must also know that they are spoken true.

“I know, Sister,” she whispers, and it is merely a sore note upon her voice that skirts the edges of phantom pain. There is nothing that can undo the work of her past— merely her actions that may redeem her future. And to do so is a promise she intends to keep for as long as time would see them both through. “My home is wherever we are together, for as long as we can be.”

“… Thank you.” A soft admission, one that seemed light with relief. As Veyle elevates her gaze to meet her sister’s, a smile manages to settle upon her face. “I hope that never changes.”

i don’t plan on making any more solo blogs & committing to them right away, but i do have plenty of thoughts about ivy and zephia… arguably, i have a stronger muse for ivy, but i’d like to have more time to put her portrayal in the oven haha. zephia however will likely be up… sometime soon… :,) four hounds pspsps !!
