He can hear voices outside, and a sound that bears a striking resemblance to Morgan’s laughter. Forty four percent of incarcerated people have some kind of mental illness. It’s not surprising his mind is resorting to something that sounds comforting from before, he’s probably suffering some kind of break right now, in the after. The sudden change, the abundance of things around him, some kind of sensory overload surely. No other explanation. Still, the memory of the sound curls itself under the throbbing of his traitorous heart trying to escape the confines of his ribcage. Perhaps there was something to be said about how the memory of Morgan’s laughter could still do this to him after all this time. Then again, this too, should be familiar. He’s always been powerless in the face of that thousand watt smile, more so when it was directed at him – toothy, and blinding.
